Demolishing the duPont Kitchen Addition at Montpelier

The official site is very unhelpful in getting an idea of the house. Few photos, etc. Did du Pont PAINT the brick pink or how did it get a pink exterior? Did she aircondition the house? In Virginia that would be almost essential.

The exterior of the mansion was stuccoed in the 19th century after the Madisons sold the property. The mansion was painted salmon or pink by the duPonts beginning in the early 20th century. Heat was added to the house in the form of steam registers by the duPonts. The mansion did not have central air to provide air condition. Small window units were added over the years by the duPonts. The most recent restoration of the mansion has added modern HVAC to the house.
