I use AE AND HitFilm. I actually think HF is quite a brilliant little product. It has continually improved and in many cases is plenty powerful to do what I want to do. There are times when AE is sijmply too cumbersome. I'm a fan.
@DayMarquez AE is of course a fantastic bit of software. :) An obvious advantage we have is price, and that you get a lot of stuff out of the box which you'd have to buy as extra plugins for AE. For example, to get a particle system for AE that is equivalent to HitFilm Ultimate's particle system you'd need a plugin that costs the same as the whole of HitFilm Ultimate.
But really, this always comes down to personal preference. The best thing is to try the demos of both and see what you like. :)
@lemmonsinmyeyes $400 won't even get you a typical After Effects plugin. For $400 you get 2D motion tracking and camera tracking, a full 3D particle simulator, an editor, hundreds of effects and presets, layer animation, masking, chroma keying, youtube uploading and much more.
Also, AVI and MP4 are just *container* formats. They are many codecs and export options available.

My previews are lagging in this program, could anybody recommend a good desktop or laptop that goes well with this program?

If you can, you can put subtitles in Portuguese in Brazil? I think it would help many Brazilians, like me, Thanks

Wait... you cannot export as MPEGII? Or any other format other then MPEG4 and/or AVI?! Woah...for 400 bucks I'd think I'd get more options.

@LawlessTech A tutorial on using embedded comps (and getting your head around comps in general) is quite high on the to-do list.

Great tips! I hope that the render time is reduced in the future, though. Sometimes it takes twice as long as premiere, but it's well worth it.
