I loved Larry Lujack! I grew up with CFL and WLS. It sucked that CFL changed format. I was a kid and lived about 50 miles away from Chicago (in Northwest IN), and I had my transistor radio to my ear everyday. I'd even sneak it into school and get busted with it. LOL! Long live rock!
It's weird to hear this when you were listening to it live! I did not recall everything he said except that the sound of waves would play for a while after they ended the format.
Wow, what a classic piece of Chiago radio history. I love the custom cut Reunion "CFL rolled me" tune. Thanks for posting this, it brought back many memories.
I remember listening to Larry Lujack, Steve King, John Landecker on those AM radio stations in Chicago. Afternoon drive man Gary Meadows on WFHG in Bristol, VA-TN, also Ron Gregory on WOWO in Ft.Wayne,IN and WLPL in Baltimore ! Thanks to the funny bits from Don Imus on WNBC in New York, too. These guys paved the way for lots of us to also have fun and be ourselves behind the mic ! Thanks for the clip here.
@coxmosia1 I miss AM radio rock and roll format, it was how we kept up with the top tunes and the personalities entertained us in a way that only Howard Stern and and a few others do today.
Larry was my ex-wife's uncle. I spent some time with him and his lovely wife and Larry was just a normal guy with a great sense of humor. I never knew how famous he was until years after I first met him. I miss seeing them.
Thanks for sharing that clip. I live in Pennsylvania. During the good ole days of AM radio, I listened to WCFL, along with WABC from N.Y. They played great songs back then. Ohh!! the memories!! Thanks again
ohh yeah, listening to the great chicago AM stations, WCFL and WLS. Living in Northern Michigan on the coast of Lake Michigan it was one of three stations my car radio could pick up- that I liked... these and the Mighty 92- WOKY in Milwaukee... Makin out in the back seat- great memories of sex and rock n roll!!! thanks for sharing this exerpt
I will admit I liked this station when they first adopted "The Loop 1000" handle and had a personality based rock format in 1987 and '88. Upon the format change then, they were a worthwile alternative to WLS by that time. Unfortunately, they weren't to last; too bad! It'd be nice if a 50,000 watt powerhouse were to once again play some 'innovative' programming other than news, talk and/or sports.

no one was as droll as Lujack. Who else could introduce himself while he does a 'bit.?'

I remember this gentleman when he was on KJR in Seattle, WA back in the 60-70s.

Larry Lujack is a fine lad, but, WCFL at this point was getting lazy....they lost their zip, and unfortunately, you can hear it.
WCFL1000 2 years ago
Oh yeah, left Chicago about 5 months before. I think we'll get Patrick Warburton to play Larry in the movie.
