I've loved Ani for years and years. It's wonderful to hear how her music has changed with her life. When I first started listening to her, I never imagined she'd be married with a child one day. In fact, when I went to see her a few weeks ago, she spoke about her husband and added "that's right, I said the 'H' word..". I guess she never thought she would either! She's an inspiration to me and a beautiful person.
Another powerful reminder from Ms. DiFranco that everyone eventually has to grow up and gets older. And if you span her catalog you'll will find very little happy Ani. It is great to see a woman who has endured so much and feels such sorrow virtually glowing as she sings and tells a folk story of alove and abond she has formed. @helliot826 Lots of guitar players leave the nails on their picking/strumming hand longer. It is a personal preference thing. On the fretting hand if your nails are too long they will hit the fretboard and get in the way.
@helliot826 - she has one hand manicured because in order to hit the chords and make them ring out correctly, she must have full contact; fingertips pressed to guitar frets. The hand she's plucking/strumming with...I'm sure she uses the nails as a pick. :o) Hope that helps.

saw her in rochester, ny back in 95...i wasn't into this type of music then, and she TORE THE STAGE UP!!! i couldn't help but like her..so FIERCE! shook her hand after the show and said "thank you for blessing me with your music"...she said "thank you for allowing me to bless you" and flashed her beautiful smile...that moment has been burned into my memory.

Every self-made artist who writes the kind of songs she does has those harpies howling at their feet. It's a primitive human trait to find a link to define their own existence(and/or choices) and to give them meaning. What she does and what they do with her are their own choice and you shouldn't gainsay it as harshly as you did. I've been to her concerts, yes, they are filled with those "devotees" you mentioned, but not a one of them were as you describe them. They have a hero, not a God.

saw her in rochester, ny back in 95...i wasn't into this type of music then, and she TORE THE STAGE UP!!! i couldn't help but like her..so FIERCE! shook her hand after the show and said "thank you for blessing me with your music"...she said "thank you for allowing me to bless you" and flashed her beautiful smile...that moment has been burned into my memory.

I am a huge Ani DiFranco fan, and I really wish other fans of hers were a lot less critical of her work! The first thing to know about Ani is that she's gonna do what the fuck she wants, and she really doesn't care what anyone things. Just, relax...listen, enjoy the music and respect this great great woman. If you don't like the new Ani, don't listen. Simple as that.

i was really dissapointed with this album. im a huge ani fan and i was so excited for it, especially since i heard one or two songs at a concert of hers that i liked, but overall i felt she could have done much better with it.

This poor woman cannot even cut her hair, or change her clothes, or make a "Lifestyle Choice" without legions of Harpies howling at her like she was a victim on the Jerry Springer show. I think that Miss Di Franco is hooking up with more "commercial avenues" so she can distance herself from her grasping, controlling devotees, who are certain that she is singing "Just for Me".

Every self-made artist who writes the kind of songs she does has those harpies howling at their feet. It's a primitive human trait to find a link to define their own existence(and/or choices) and to give them meaning. What she does and what they do with her are their own choice and you shouldn't gainsay it as harshly as you did. I've been to her concerts, yes, they are filled with those "devotees" you mentioned, but not a one of them were as you describe them. They have a hero, not a God.

I believe like many that everyone should do what they believe in if it makes them happy and causes no one else harm. I see no reasons to lash out publicly against an artist that has paid their dues rather than keep it personal opinion. I'm a painter and proud fan of Ani since before there was a "new" millennium so your few months trying to insite hate against her in my ten year looks even more like just your personal opinion. Ill keep enjoying a life time friendship with her work either way.
