  • Her guitar is made by Alvarez. It's her signature model. D'Adario makes strings.

She said that she had finally let go of the angst which permeated her work prior to becoming a mother. Songs like this one reflect her outlook on life, which according to her is much happier these days. I think this is a beautiful lyric & melody. Informatist, you're entitled to your own opinion, which I completely disagree with.

  • sweet...

  • Well, Informalist, you may not see the beauty in the lyric, and that's fine. But I think it's because you're missing out on a level of understanding...

As a fellow aging woman, I think I understand what Ani means by "Love is all over the place, There's nothing wrong with your face." And it's really quite poignant and reassuring.

  • She looks so happy :) and this is a beautiful song. I love Ani :)

  • Any idea what kind/model of guitar she is playing?

  • @flutterby111 I'm pretty sure that's her signature guitar - designed for her - and the company that made them I'm pretty sure has discontinued the consumer version.

  • @flutterby111 D'Addario (A guitar string company) made guitars for her.

  • @pruephillips Are you sure? I thought it was Alvarez. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know they made her signature guitar.

  • Ani DeFranco is phenomenal....

  • My baby girl took thr label off the ketchup....I believe all of womankind are OK!

  • I want that guitar!

  • such a wonderful song. she looks like she could be angelina jolie's sister =)

  • such a wonderful song

  • Oh my gosh, I wish Ani Difranco was my mother. (Love you mom!!)

  • I've loved Ani for years and years. It's wonderful to hear how her music has changed with her life. When I first started listening to her, I never imagined she'd be married with a child one day. In fact, when I went to see her a few weeks ago, she spoke about her husband and added "that's right, I said the 'H' word..". I guess she never thought she would either! She's an inspiration to me and a beautiful person.

  • I think this is the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

  • is there a name for this beautiful song?

  • Love is all over the place, there's nothing wrong with your face..

  • Another powerful reminder from Ms. DiFranco that everyone eventually has to grow up and gets older. And if you span her catalog you'll will find very little happy Ani. It is great to see a woman who has endured so much and feels such sorrow virtually glowing as she sings and tells a folk story of alove and abond she has formed. She has talk me to take a stance speak out and "Face Up and Sing!" Let's join her folks...positive activism equal good karma. RBR rocks!

  • I remember when Ani was anti-war and her music reflected that sentiment.

  • damn, that woman can write a song!

  • she even smiles and sees the images of what she is singing...hwo cooooool...ani is the best

  • Ani = true artistry

  • oh god i love this video :) it just breathes pure warmth to me

  • i think they may be some heavy duty acrylics for all that strong strummin'!!!

  • @erinlay i play guitar with no pick..a few layers of strengthener and strong nails to begin with and you're good. also, after so many years depending on your finger or thumb positioning and you build up a serious callus that can be felt, but not usually seen unless you look for it.

  • Always moving forward....I have always loved the way Ani evolves .....her life and her music do not stand still...

  • Ani is so raw and real...love her lyrics-ive been a fan since 97...

  • She appears to be one of the coolest people on the planet...

    heck of a guitarist, too.

  • ani takes me through

  • i dont know anything bout anything, cept, this song.

  • lmao shes so weird, i love her to death!

  • This woman is an amazing talent as well as an icon for women everywhere and all you people can discuss is her damn fingernails???!!!!REALLY?Get back on the short bus!If you actually knew what talent was for real rather than what MTV told you to like this week, you would have more substance.Don't just hear Ani-LISTEN!!!

  • this is so gooood

  • She is wearing fake nails on one hand so that she can fingerpick with em instead of using a pick... they are great when your a prolific finger picker like Ani. :)

  • Anyone know the name of this song? She is brilliant!

  • @garydupuis "Present/infant"

  • @usernamegravity Thanks!

  • Yes... one of Ani's hands has longer nails... usually she uses independent finger picks... and I am guessing the people who filmed this thought that would not be "a good look"....... eh, media sucks terribly.

  • @patchouliana she's been using glue on nails for finger picking for EVER.

  • Ani is very talented and blessed. She is one of my favorite independent artists. Very honest, original songs. Love her.

  • I love how she can put a positive spin on the world we live and the different personalities we interact with on a daily basis. Her songs are very personal.

  • Mustache?

  • THank You Ani,you are a blessing too me.

  • Her lyrics are always so deep. I like her guitar action.

  • Is there anyway I can contact Ani and talk to her on Youtube? She is one of my 1000+ heroes and idols in the Universe! =)

  • Get in line.

  • @rainese What does that mean? I have Asperger's and I have no idea what terms like that mean unless explained literally.

  • This means that there alot of people who want too see her so "GET in line" means you are among many who would love too talk too her.

  • That's cool. I was wondering if she had a Youtube account where you can talk to her, but apparently not.

  • thanks !!!

  • Love ls all around!!!

  • This reminds me of the 19 yr old Ani..

  • I like this so much! Go Ani Go ;)

  • I adore her...always will!

  • Love is all over the place..there's nothing wrong with your face....

  • omg, ani has fake nails on her hand because its probably easier then taping guitar picks to her fingers like she used to do, leave her alone

  • @mummsybummsy Male guitarist put fake nails on for that reason. it protects the actually nail and avoids using a pick

  • Why do some video editors change frames so often that the viewer gets dizzy? Geez, just let us watch her already. :O

  • Who gives a crap about her fingernails. Real fans would realize that her nail preference is ridiculous. Thank you ani for all of your beautiful inspiring lyrics and songs.

  • Damn she's amazing.

  • One of our most original artists and the thread deals with her teeth, nails and neclklace. Wondeful!

  • Ani - you are an amazing inspiration. You are an amazing musician, a gracious soul and I great business woman. I am PROUD to be a fan.

  • The greatest artist of her generation, and only about 1 in 10 even know her name. . .

  • I love her necklace!!

  • i love the way her fingers move. They put me into a trance...haha. I just sit here completely engrossed in her fingers and almost lulled to sleep with the song

  • her one hand is manicured b/c she uses those nails as finger pics. Instead of wearing external pics, she just gets her nails bolstered with acrilic, i'd guess. it's what I do!!

  • but her teeth are not whitened....thank god

  • LOL :)!

  • beautiful mantra magic music she makes. I love you, Ani D.

  • Anyone stop and think for a second as to why one hand seems manicured and not the other. There must be someone out there that plays guitar that has some brains. Here's a hint, she's not using a pick.

  • @helliot826 Lots of guitar players leave the nails on their picking/strumming hand longer. It is a personal preference thing. On the fretting hand if your nails are too long they will hit the fretboard and get in the way.

  • @helliot826 - she has one hand manicured because in order to hit the chords and make them ring out correctly, she must have full contact; fingertips pressed to guitar frets. The hand she's plucking/strumming with...I'm sure she uses the nails as a pick. :o) Hope that helps.

  • @helliot826 , yeah, in concert she actually uses electrical tape around the fake nails to keep them on. Pretty awesome style of playing, wish I could do it that way!! I'm a strummer all the way :)

  • Comment removed

  • @helliot826 shes using that hand to pic better normally she has electrical tape up her fingers on that hand cuz she beats the shit out the gitar, ani is truley amazing at everything she does

  • @helliot826 According to her, and of which she seemed to find funny as she is a woman of such raw natural fiber, they are a particular brand of fake nails worn with her choice of glue...a combo she spent years perfecting. If you see pics from "back in the day," you'll see she has them duct taped on. Adding even more charm...!

  • @helliot826 She uses acrylics on her right hand...when she plays a show, she uses electrical tape to keep them in place

  • *chuckles

  • hehe theres a certain irony with this being a song beauty being so many different things, and the comments bout the apperance of her fingernails :D i kinda love it tho, its making me crack up :)

  • god im loving this!! im sitting here really.. awed.. that once again she managed to say something important, in such a good way, with such skill and craft with words, and such a personal voice. i hear it and i feel greatful..

  • your great!!!!! thank you

  • watching her play is so relaxing! wish i culd play like that!!

  • she is very unique.breath of fresh air really

  • she's lovely! Ani, I don't agree with you politically, but I love near about everything else about you :)

  • and what a beautiful song and message.

  • does.. does ani have a manicure?

  • No she gorilla glues/tapes fake nails on to help her plucking/strumming

  • I cannot believe there are still simple minded people like yourself out there who question Ani's friggin manicure when she has lyrics that are so meaningful and intense.

  • really? cause i first saw ani in 1991 in buffalo, and think that it's okay to ask mention how her fingernails look different than they did eighteen years ago. forgive me for not screaming every time she says fuck or cunt, like the "hardcore" fans do nowadays.

  • i agree, she has a cute manicure, but i doubt it's the first time. she's not THAT punker than thou that she'd never let a friend manicure her nails over the years, given that she's always played with fake nails. i bet it still puts a smirk on her face to get a "pretty" nail job.

what a lovely performance! so much better than the version on record.

  • So you first saw her in 1991 and her fingernails look different? Well, care to tell us how they looked 18 years ago? Coz she's played with fake nails on her right hand since the album Ani Difranco came out, you schmuck!

  • totally manicure.

    show us yer toes ani!!

  • Dude. She's got fake nails on one hand. She always uses fake nails in place of a pic. It's just that in concert she puts electrical tape around each one to make sure they don't pop off.

  • I love her lyriks!

  • simply wonderful...love u ani!!!

  • Where did you hear she had a facelift?

  • Uh, when do you think she had a facelift? I'd verify your source

A lot of people feel insecure of their appearance.. when it doesn't match the standard societal definition of "beauty." You grow into your own. Among many other things, I love ani for her candor.

  • I am glad Ani has a baby; she is the kind of person we need raising new people if we're going to have a chance of having a loving, hopeful, accepting future. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • yes!

  • Comment removed

  • she's such an inspiration. musically, morally, wholly.

  • Good Job Mama! You still amaze me after all these years. Love you.

  • cute cute cute cute cute and gorgeous

  • Génial !

  • she looks good in the mother's clothes. this song makes me think of my own little child. love....

  • Ani is untouchable, always has been.

  • Ani with foundation and lip gloss. Hot no matter what.

  • Bravo!

  • She's a great guitar player and has a great way with words.

  • miss difranco is not an embankment to prevent floods. this song is about her daughter patah. "when you find some thing hard to hear you chalk it up to my anger and never to your own fear"

  • You're an idiot.

  • didn't think anyone could have a mind so narrow not to realise the greatness of this girl.

i am a woman, but i bond with men more. i am far from a feminist and i am certainly straight as anything you've ever seen. but ani kicks ass. always will. here endeth the lesson.

  • oh touche ~ i love how ani keeps evolving

  • She said this song was brand new when I went to see her in London last year!!! Its lush!!

  • Ani is Awesome! my muse xxxxxxxx

  • i loooooove the crisp sound of her guitar here. wonderful.

  • love the last line. great song, great woman.

  • ah...this is so sweet! It made me cry!

  • i love this woman. that's all there is to it.

  • I love it! It's fun, but it's sweet and sensual, and it's Ani! Best combo ever!

  • Beautiful !

  • So sweet

  • Wow!!! one girl one guitar I like that "gratulation", great ,pure video.

  • G R A C E ! That's what my name means (Nancy) I'll pretend this song is for me.

  • LOVE

  • i saw her 2 nights ago in sydney. she just blew my mind. she's always been my favourite muso but to see her on stage, on fire, is something i will never forget. a guitar maniac!!!!

  • Ani DiFranco rocks my world. she's one of my all time favorite musician and somehow i missed her when she came to Portland... urgh! I'm sure she's a killer on stage... i'm loving this unplugged jam!

  • saw her in rochester, ny back in 95...i wasn't into this type of music then, and she TORE THE STAGE UP!!! i couldn't help but like her..so FIERCE! shook her hand after the show and said "thank you for blessing me with your music"...she said "thank you for allowing me to bless you" and flashed her beautiful smile...that moment has been burned into my memory.

  • wow!

  • there is a God...she decided to have a child to talk about mom when she's gone...and hopefully play music...thanks ani...

  • Every thing she does with her voice and guitar is magic.

  • Beautiful song. Especially the melody of the "Be here" part.

  • i think this is a beautiful song.....i felt very similar when i had my kid...she words the feelings just right.

  • I am a huge Ani DiFranco fan, and I really wish other fans of hers were a lot less critical of her work! The first thing to know about Ani is that she's gonna do what the fuck she wants, and she really doesn't care what anyone things. Just, relax...listen, enjoy the music and respect this great great woman. If you don't like the new Ani, don't listen. Simple as that.

  • Amen to that!

  • don´t forget to have a good time! hell yeah!!! that is my new mantra too. =)

  • Mine too! Hell yeah Ani! This is one of the best songs on her new album. Thanks for posting this.

  • i was really dissapointed with this album. im a huge ani fan and i was so excited for it, especially since i heard one or two songs at a concert of hers that i liked, but overall i felt she could have done much better with it.

  • i like this song more and more each day

  • I love Ani, but she ruins this song with the "bee-hee-hee" shit.

  • its sounds pretty, but what is beeheehe, it does sound dumb

  • I know I wish I was beautiful. You can't always get what you want.True love is blind and tone deaf.Depression is contagious,so is not forgetting to have a good time. You owe it to someone.

  • look, being a mom doesn't mean you're the stereotypical "soccer mom". She supports the gay/lesbian community, but that doesn't mean she's required to be one to support them. They understand her and they're proud for the strength she has to stand up to arrogant people like you.

  • Every self-made artist who writes the kind of songs she does has those harpies howling at their feet. It's a primitive human trait to find a link to define their own existence(and/or choices) and to give them meaning. What she does and what they do with her are their own choice and you shouldn't gainsay it as harshly as you did. I've been to her concerts, yes, they are filled with those "devotees" you mentioned, but not a one of them were as you describe them. They have a hero, not a God.

  • Well, I will have to back off a bit and listen to your side. I have been criticising the Ani DiFranco phenomenon at my peril for a few months now here on youtube, and you are the first defender to have something interesting to say about the matter. My hat is off to you and Touche!!

  • I only seek understanding between opposing sides :3

  • I believe like many that everyone should do what they believe in if it makes them happy and causes no one else harm. I see no reasons to lash out publicly against an artist that has paid their dues rather than keep it personal opinion. I'm a painter and proud fan of Ani since before there was a "new" millennium so your few months trying to insite hate against her in my ten year looks even more like just your personal opinion. Ill keep enjoying a life time friendship with her work either way.

  • No.1: Youtube posts are not mandated to be lavish praise only. No.2: The fact that you are a "painter" and proud of your feelings about your personal friend "Ani" = A Brimming Bowl Full of Jack Squat. No.3: You don't know how long I have been listening to this dreck and it's spawn. No.4: Did the millenium actually mark anything of real significance? No.5: My concern about cultural standards that are blindly accepted is only about love, not hate. No.6: Every utterance is a personal opinion.

  • Bi means you like woman AND men. It's not another word for dyke. Just so ya know.

  • Well thank you for that piece of information -even though you should know that a slash between two words generally indicates either/or; not that the words are synoymous. But I am glad to know that "Bi" means that a person is both a Nard-Gargler and a Carpet-Muncher; Thank you for clarifiying this fine point of Human sexuality for me.

  • And thank you back, as I too am aware that a slash means either/or. It just didn't not seem to be that you were aware as you got your panties in a twist about her marrying a man.

  • Number one: My panties are immaculate.

Number two: You are not really all that notorious.

  • Why do you care so much as to argue? I wish I had that much spare time. (also, yeah it's a dumb name that I typed in real quick 'cause I couldn't find my password to an old account. sue me)

  • Ani is love!

  • This is a great song and video!

  • i love this channel :D
