  • i know why i am unhealthy and its not because of non-organic food, its because of portion sizes, fast food, and lack of indoor or outdoor activities on my part. so yeah, i am not going to pay more for organic fruits and veggies.

  • Everything should be organic if you want to be a science experiment dont force us organic people to be one also Now eat your GMO FraNKIN FOODS

  • @YouJustFoundTheTruth

You know, cabbage and cauliflower originated as GMOs, of a sort.

Their ancestors were mutated mustard plants.

  • @ClockworkMerc Genetic Engineering is not selective or cross breeding. Here is the USDA definition of Genetic Engineering "under guidelines issued by USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, genetic engineering is defined as the genetic modification of organisms by recombinant DNA techniques (7CFR340: 340.1).""Recombinant DNA techniques (DNA formed by combining segments of DNA from different organisms)" ers.usda.gov/briefing/biotechnology/glossary.htm

  • @myndy86 Yes. That is true, but it has its roots in selective breeding, and since the differences between organisms are caused by changes in DNA, it's safe to say induction of DNA changes is not necessarily any more dangerous.

  • @ClockworkMerc The huge majority of GE crops, etc. already use virtually all conventional breeding techniques and on top of that use recombinant DNA techniques, etc. So, the reality is the entire process used to create GE crops, etc. causes more changes to organisms than conventional breeding alone. Therefore, GE generally poses additional risks such as antibiotic resistant markers, virus promoters, the use of e.coli, agrobacterium, etc.

  • @YouJustFoundTheTruth only if you organic people promise to keep using up more land because you cant outproduce GMO's

  • It's simple...if you think organic is better then by all means pay the extra cost for it. Just don't try to mandate it for everyone else. Lets just let the free market decide which is best.

  • As stated in previous comments, these could be paid "actors" to support a corporation pushing toxic chemical filled foods. I'm from the islands and produce today DOES NOT taste as good as it used to before pesticides, chemical and hormone grown foods. Especially fruits. Many look good and fresh, but their rotten on the insides due to growth hormones. Organic produce IS more flavorful tnan conventionally grown. There is NO argument.

  • @NOBLE9009 Bull$hit

  • @NOBLE9009

Eh? No argument for a personal testament, the least reliable of all evidence?

Even though it could be a healthy dose of confirmation bias and the fact that you know it's organic could very well influence your perception of it?

You're right, we're all just so full of shit!

  • @ClockworkMerc For a taste test not done by magicians who get paid to trick you, type "Organic or Conventional? (2 of 2)" in the youtube search. If you are worried about people's expectations influencing their choices, then you can look at animal studies. Several meta-analyses of hundreds of animal taste test studies, suggest most animals in most cases choose organic, for example "when given a choice, animals prefer organic to conventionally produced fodder." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15195159

  • @Sandrylene The overwhelming majority of peer reviewed review studies suggest organic food is generally more nutritious/healthier. On May 2, in these comments I posted numerous studies that suggest organic is more nutrtious/healthier. As for Penn and Teller doing a scientific study, they wouldn`t even know where to begin. Penn and Teller are magicians, not scientists, you expect too much from them.

  • So... I don't believe organic food has more nutrients or tastes better, but I still have a problem with this as an attempt at a scientific test.

I could get three tomatoes from the same vine, one of which tasted clearly better than the other two. That doesn't prove much of anything. Produce is inherently pretty non-uniform. Also, variables of how long it's been since they were picked, how far they had to travel have huge impact... this test just doesn't show anything useful.

  • Nothing but a good trick the girl signals the plate that is none organic you can tell is a (bad) trick just by the switch in Camara angle plus color red normally is danger if it was a real thing they would use the same kind of plate but that's not the point right?

  • @PaulDenton14 It`s been almost 3 weeks and you haven`t posted anything regarding a website with references for Penn and Teller`s insane claims and I can`t find it anywhere. I`m going to guess you just made up that Penn and Teller have a website with references, the same way Penn and Teller made up these BS claims. I wouldn`t be surprised if the people in this taste test are paid actors. How can you listen to magicians, they get paid to trick you!

  • Forget the "environment". I don't want to use my OWN tax dollars to support some loser farm crops that don't sell well so they have to be artificially supported with low prices than to support unsubsidized crops. The nastiest example is HCFS soda. I'll stick with the stuff across the border, thank you. Tastes better than even THROWBACK PEPSI FFS.

  • @PaulDenton14 I just went on the showtime website for the show and went to the organic episode and all it had was a description of the episode but no references. Can you send me the link in a personal message? I would love to see a reference saying pesticide residue reduces cancer risk 30,000%.

  • He said they didn't change the signs but the did. @ 0:20 blue plate is on hat guys left. then @ 2:15 blue plate is on hat guys right.

  • @captainmutiny I have seen the whole episode, I don`t remember them ever saying that some people chose organic. How many people do they claim, chose organic and how many didn`t? This video didn`t make any points, it mostly gave false information, like coffee has 1000 times more cancer risk than pesticide residue. Studies suggest coffee reduces cancer risk by about 30%, so they are claiming pesticide residue reduces cancer risk 30,000%! It`s insane to believe that!

  • @myndy86 your sources?

    Add h t t p : / / w w w . to beginning and eliminate spaces. I gave studies refuting several other P&T false anti-organic claims in my comments for their organic videos.

  • Penn and Teller are magicians, their job is to trick you! Doesn`t it seem strange that nobody picked organic, that almost never happens in a taste test! Obviously this video was edited to make organic seem bad! For unedited results of organic vs conventional taste tests, type "Organic or Conventional? (2 of 2)" in the youtube search engine, or type "Organic vs Inorganic Taste Test".

  • @myndy86

Actually, In the show they eventually told the figures, and no not everyone got it wrong. However, they are trying to prove a point, and do it in a comical way. There's a technique they use in cinema called editing! It can make anyone a magician!

  • @DollhouseBloodbath Goujiki DID take into account population increase!!! Read the studies yourself. There are many more as well. srfood.org/images/stories/pdf/press_releases/20110308_agroecology-report-pr_en.pdf

  • @iCkyCandyProductions I quote from studies that I find in peer reviewed journals, court cases I find in legal libraries etc. I then go and try to find links on the internet to those same studies, cases etc. to show uninformed people like you. You just believe whatever magicians (whose job is to trick you) tell you and then try to justify your false beliefs by questioning peer reviewed studies, court cases etc. LMAO, now thats funny!!!

  • @ryanboller13 Don`t believe everything you see on TV! U.S. court in Florida ruled the FCC position against news distortion is only a policy, not a promulgated law, rule or regulation. baltimorechronicle"dot"com/lyingislegal_apr03.html That means Penn and Teller can(and do) lie without being sued!

  • @myndy86

Funny coming from someone who seems to believe everything they read on the internet.

  • These guys are brillaint, just because they have money doesn't mean they haven't done the research before going on air. Have these men been sued yet? No they haven't, and why...because they are telling the truth that often experts agree with them. So before slamming to individuals for coming up with a brillant show and making fools out of alot of people. Do your research too. I'm not saying they are 100% correct, but they are damn close.

  • @ryanboller13 I did the research, they don't reference any studies because most of what they say is false. You can lie and not get sued. Most studies suggest organic benefits poor countries more than conventional. srfood.org/images/stories/pdf/press_releases/20110308_agroecology-report-pr_en.pdf

  • @myndy86

Dude, they cite references for every episode on the show's website.

  • Fucking children, seriously. Human civilization has thrived for THOUSANDS of years without industrial farming. Only in the past half century has industrial farming become popular because it makes shit tons of money on pesticide sales. Do your fucking research before listening to two filthy rich magicians who trick you into believing their ridiculousness. Although I'm not surprised, since most who pressed the like button, are probably half-baked on medication and brainwashed by the evening news.

  • @Goujiki you need to take into account popuation increase.

  • @DustinAndNatasha International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition review study compared organic vs conventional diets in animals. Weight gain was greater in organically fed rats, mortality was lower at 9 weeks, incidence of degenerative disease was lower. Mortality was lower in organically fed rabbits. 2nd and 3rd generation rabbits from organically fed parents had higher birth rates and more viable embryos. Infectious illnesses was less frequent in 2nd generation organically fed animals.

  • @NewVinland What country do you live in? In the U.S. if an organic crop was shown to contain GMOs it would not be allowed to be sold as organic and the organic farmer could lose their organic certification in most circumstances. Not all organic crops are tested for GMOs, but GMOs are not allowed nor are they purposely being sold using the USDA certified organic label.

  • Not all certified organic foods are free from being genetically modified. In fact the majority is allowed to be GMO. They should have gotten apples from amish people :)

  • @Rundvelt PubMed 2010"Fruit and Soil Quality of Organic and Conventional Strawberry Agroecosystems""In the past 10 years, ten review studies of scientific literature comparing the nutrition of organic and conventional foods have been published. Eight of these review studies found some evidence of organic being more nutritious"

  • #1.They should have used the same colored plates.#2. Just because it's organic, doesn't mean it tastes better.#3. Organic IS better. If anyone denies that, they are delusional.

  • I have never understood Organic food lol

  • Are you kidding me? When did Penn Jillette become a poster-boy for nutrition?

  • the people they gave the test to don't seem to be realy into organic. the woman looks like she would buy organic furit at hole foods but go to McDonalds for dinner. all this sounds like some pro monsanto bullshit. you want good food grow it and make it yourself.

  • THis is strange to me,as here in the UK ,organic apples, carrots, tomatoes, chicken, potatoes have clear difference in sweetness depth of flavour to my pallette, and to my friends also. some dont - onions bananas cucumber, to name a few that spring to mind.

  • @blackmerriah Later in the episode they checked for bias. They cut a banana into two and claimed one half was organic and the other was non-organic. When the people heard "organic," they went on and on about how the organic half tasted soooooooo much better than non-organic. I'm not saying you and your friends are wrong, because I haven't eaten organic foods in the UK, but I'm saying at least a single-blind test like the one in this video should be in order.

  • Fruits and vegetables vary a lot in quality ALL THE TIME.

They could have just chosen crappy fruits for the organic side. This test would be amazingly easy to rig one way or another.

  • @SageSavage If they can conspire to alter the test, couldn't organic companies conspire to make you think organic is worthwhile? The difference here is that one side has a financial reason to mislead people, whereas the other is only producing a show.

  • @Rundvelt

Don't be absurd, both sides have economic interests.

  • @SageSavage Really, so Penn and Teller wouldn't have had a TV show if they showed organic winning? Please.

  • @Rundvelt

TV shows don't happen without funding.

And anyway, who says that the impetus for this show came from Penn and Teller?

It's just as likely that corporations funded the research and then payed for the television show, and wanted some well-known and well-liked spokespeople.

Or it's possible that they funded the research and then Penn and Teller just happened to believe some stilted statistics. It happens to plenty of people.

  • Yo Penn & Teller:

    1. I don't give a shit if two of the many people you tested choose non-organic in a taste test-it doesn't prove anything.

    2. Ever hear of the pesticide treadmill? The whole point of organic food is to conserve energy, avoid heavy usage of chemicals and chemical resistant pests.

  • @refuter01 Refuter, ever heard that organic fruits and veggies have pesticides? Welcome to reality. In fact, organic veggies use harsher natural pesticides then non-organic. Knowledge is power!

  • @Rundvelt

Actually around 25-29% of organic produce has pesticide residue compared to around 77-80% of non-organic. Yeah, knowledge is power.

  • @ThePintsizeslasher Where are you linking your information from? How do you define residue? How many parts per million? OH that's right, I forgot. You didn't actually research this, you only listened to what the "pro organic" farmers told you. It's ok. Shell out your cash for nothing. :)

  • @Rundvelt

Consumers Union Demeber 1997 and January 1998 and the USDA Pesticide Data Program. I don't even eat organic, it's too expensive. Sorry, I didn't write down all the different ppms for different pesticides on the numerous different products studied.

I enjoy Penn & teller, but what makes you think they cant be biased? Why do you not demand a scientific experiment from them?

Also, you are a hypocritical douche. You accuse refuter of being smug, but look at you. ":)" "shell out your cash"

  • @ThePintsizeslasher

So where are your sources for your claims? Honestly I'm curious, about whether or not what you're saying is true.

  • @ThePintsizeslasher There have been several studies that show organic vegetables and regular vegetables have the same level of nutritional value. You can find these on PubMed. The pesticide studies you have provided are somewhat flawed. Because they do not account for the methodology of the product for market. How are they washed? Are they washed? (cont'd)

  • @Rundvelt "reviews of multiple studies show that organic varieties do provide significantly greater levels of vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus than non-organic varieties of the same foods. While being higher in these nutrients, they are also significantly lower in nitrates and pesticide residues.""organic foods typically provide greater levels of a number of important antioxidant phytochemicals (anthocyanins, flavonoids, and carotenoids)." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/203592 65

  • @Rundvelt "For individual nutrients, existing studies show that organic fertilization practices produce crops with higher levels of ascorbic acid, lower levels of nitrate, and improved protein quality compared with conventionally grown crops.""Animal studies showed better growth and reproduction in animals fed organically grown feed compared with those fed conventionally grown feed." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9439021

  • @Rundvelt "A review of existing literature reveals that organic foods compared to conventionally produced foods seem to have a higher content of antioxidants in plant products and a higher content of fat-soluble vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids in animal products. Animal studies (among them, on rabbits and chickens) show higher fertility and less morbidity in animals fed organically.""when given a choice, animals prefer organic to conventionally produced fodder."ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15195159

  • @Rundvelt "A short review of such experiments shows that the majority of these tests revealed effects of the organically produced feed on health parameters such as reproductive performance and immune responses."" The science-based results suggest positive influences from organic feeds" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/203550 28 "Ecological food is tastier and contains more essential amino-acids, vitamin C, and micro-nutriments than usual food" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16610189

  • @ThePintsizeslasher What you also fail to consider is the fact that if the pesticides are indeed harmful to humans. What if they're not? What does it matter what residue is left? Furthermore, this only looks at one aspect. What about bug feces? Presumably it'd be more on organic fruits and veggies because they use crude, harsh, yet organic pesticides.

  • @ThePintsizeslasher It's called trolling. Learn 2 internet.

  • @ThePintsizeslasher As for the claim that Penn and Teller are being biased, what's the point? If we're going to go down the tinfoil covered road, why isn't Consumers Union biased for organic food. Why isn't the USDA biased. It's a non-argument.

  • @Rundvelt

Given that the USDA subsidizes large argi-business, I wouldn't say they are pro-organic.

If organic pesticides are harsher, why would there be more bug feces on organic produce? SO it's harsher but not as effective

Again, Penn & Teller are doing a non-scientific survey here, and trying to pass it off as credible. That's why "it's just a show" is bs

"organic vegetables and regular vegetables have the same level of nutritional value."

I never made a claim to the contrary.

  • @ThePintsizeslasher "I wouldn't say they're pro-organic" But how do you know, it's a conspiracy! That's the beauty of it. They make you think they're not for it so they seem all the more believable!

  • @ThePintsizeslasher says: If organic pesticides are harsher, why would there be more bug feces on organic produce? SO it's harsher but not as effective. I reply: That's correct. You could lace your vegetables with arsenic and it'd kill quite a few bugs, but not all. Harsh but not effective. Landmines could also be used, again, very harsh, not so effective.

  • @refuter01 says The whole point of organic food is to conserve energy, avoid heavy usage of chemicals and chemical resistant pests. I reply: You have no idea what you're talking about. Organic growing results in MORE energy, uses HARSHER chemicals. Pests are fairly neutral between the two. You just like being smug and this is a way for you to do it. "I'm doing my part for the world." /nose up.

  • Just like the morons who signed the petition to ban Di-Hydrogen Monoxide.

  • ahhhh... the irony....
