something about this band says indie rock or.... maybe a slight emo undertone.... cant quite place it. but rock n' roll? i dont think so. not a bad band i guess, was hoping for something with a little bit more power behind it........ but the guitar solo in the beginning, not that fantastic. to easy, played only in the pentatonic minor... thats only 5 different notes in two octaves, and lacking imagination..... but hey, they're famous for a reason, so what do i know.....
@ChaseParkison They are categorized as a "punk"-band. Or, a soul-band with punk ideals. And the solo is fantastic, it proves that you can go far with only 5 notes.
@omfern the band isn't bad, but i have to disagree strongly with the begining solo. the pentatonic scale has 5 notes, but he's only playing about 3... repeating over and over, not to metion that he is using effect pedals to make it sound more amazing then it really is. Delays and a slight Chorus pedal maybe. its all in taste though not a bad band, i was just let down after i read someones post about how this band is keeping Rock alive. deffinitly hear the punk though, you are right.
@ChaseParkison I counted seven different notes.. but whatever. I think that the solo is just a matter of habit, really. But if you really sit down and listen to Gaslights albums, you will find how incredible they truly are. Brian Fallon is my idol over all.. and I respect your opinion, and I like that you can actually give a reason; most idiots can't.
@ChaseParkison The '59 Sound-album is my favorite album of all time. And keep in mind that this solo isn't in the original song btw, just in case you didn't know that. ;) If you're looking for agressive punk, then their first albu, Sink or Swim fits. Their last album, American Slang has a lot of motown-soul into it. I'd reccomend starting at the start with Sink or Swim. Then '59 Sound, then American Slang.
This is really pretty great. The lyrics are hard-edged misery, the delivery's good, some of the crowd is really getting it, and the opening guitar-work is flat-out beautiful.
Woah. Never really heard of this band until I saw they're opening for Foo Fighters. First listen, and I like this! That's pretty rare. Can't wait to see them live. Can't wait to see Dave Grohl either. It's gonna be amazing.
I hate how people just lie down at these shows like show the band some respect take the fedora and the shades of we all know your not Tom Waits Christ posers do my head in like this is one of the great bands and these fags who say they like rain dogs and yet think cemetery polka is an old dance, Im going to see them in November and I will personally be showing the band respect and not sitting back trying to look cool for other peoples acceptance
One of my favorite songs off the 59 sound, This is an awesome performance of this song, hopefully they play it(including the extended intro) when I see them in Philly and NYC.

Don't you love when bands can play with Bruce Springsteen and the Foo Fighters, and still maintain creative songs on an independent label? I do.

I feel bad for the Foo Fighters. They may rock harder, but these guys have a genuine feeling to them. They're meaningful. I love them haha
