Very nice man, ever thought about extended range bass guitars? I didn't pick up anything "technical" like sweeping and tapping until I got myself one, you'd probably make really good use of the chords and stuff that open up with a B and/or C string.
man i brouhgt a shitty bass,it comes from some company called jay turser or some shit cause we dont live near a music store and we went to some store that sold random shit and we had to get a bass there.and im done with that shit like i pretty much fucked it up i didnt break it but parts are missing and it always make this annoying fret buzz always.but watching you doing sweeping which i sorta try and like doin it at times inspired me to keep going now i want a new bass called a dean razorback
definitely try it out before you buy it, and if ur sure that's what u want, grab it, but I noticed with basses, when I search, im ususally rather impatient, and sometimes had made decisions based on looks. Aesthetics are totally secondary for a bass, and as long as you know this Im sure the Dean will treat you fine. On another note, one of the greatest bass players on the planet, Jeff Berlin, plays for dean....check him out!
yeah same here when i look at esp basses & bc rich im like that style is so kool but really in my head i really want a bass for sound more than looks.and then theres ibanez & fender basses and when i check them out i think there better cause there basses are really bout sound not saying they better than every bass but they both really really 10x really care bout sound more than looks.but i want the razorback cause it will help me focus on metal.then move my way up on different gneres when im gud
These are both technical/unique ways to pick a note. Sweep picking is when you pick several strings in a "sweeping" motion, allowing notes to be played faster/a different way. Tapping is a technique most people use to get to the hard to reach notes, or two continue a chord progression an octave higher than where your "playing" hand is at the time. There difficult to explain. I would simply watch a couple of my other videos and look at the physical differences between the two techniques!
Well, I also have rather small hands, so I feel your pain. Due to your disposition (and my own) I would suggest starting your sweeping past the 12th fret so that you can maneuver a little easier. TIMING IS EVERYTHING! You must make sure that you time your picking hand to your playing hand, in order to create a smooth sweep. Get the basic motion of the sweep down with your playing hand, then pick it SLOWLY! I mean really slow. then speed it up from there, and watch yourself progress my friend!
Thats pretty damn good man ive been playing for like 5 years now and im mainly self taught so im new to sweeping on bass. Im having a hard time getting my left hand technique down and plus I have small fingures and i play a 4 but mainly a 5 string bass. How can i work on sweeping and how long did it take you to learn the technique
And to answer the latter portion of your questions, it took appx 1 full year to advance from "sloppy sweeps" to fresher sweeps. It's all about technique, and sweeping had never been explained to me, thus I took a little longer to actually get it. please remember bass is NOT a competition, nor is there a "correct" way to play it. Find your groove, and let the music take hold man!!!!!!
awesome video mate. whats it like playing an eight string bass? i am at the moment purly a 4 string bass player but have been looking into a six string bass.
Well, the only 8 string that I have owned, would be the equal to the 12 string guitar (each string is the octave of the last) I can tell you, that it hurt quite a bit due to my fingers being very small! the other option for 8 stringed basses consist of a tuning going from (following the circle of fifths/fourths)F#BEADGCF or BEADGCFA#.
you didnt even teach, just showed off. All I wanted to learn was from 1:32 onward. Why not show what you're doing slow and then do it fast?
