The worst thing you could do is go running over to see if the animal is down ,because you could put the animal on the run and believe me a moose can cover enough ground in a short time that you might never be able to find him.Waiting for a short while is always the best plan.
just curious why would you just sit there talking about the kill rather than follow the moose to make sure he went down quickly and if still alive put him out of his misery?
@basromd When Dj lifted his hand in the air, thats when we heard the moose crash to the ground and knew he was done! If I thought he was not dead we would have been going to finish him off for sure!
Yes yes, nice job getting that animal that close. But ... why do you shoot him? Hunting, sure, but what do you do with the corspe? Eat it? Sell it? I beg you three guys didn't manage to get this VERY heavy animal out of the wood. So why do you do this stuff? Fun? ... dont get it. And no, I'm not a vegetarian, I love the taste of a good steak, but I HATE it when animals are killed for fun ...
@TheTrueNicki I have the same opinion. Hunting moose with an arrow? It got shot in lungs, as we could see he escaped. How much time left untill it died? Its obvious that it suffered. Killing with rifle is swift and less painfull. So the same question, why? For fun and "adrenaline'? If so than You need a doctor. Im sure You know what sadism is (animal cruelty as well) and Im sure that You think You have nothing to do with it... That is really sad.
@TheTrueNicki The moose to every last pound was brought the 100 miles out of the bush with great effort to be enjoyed by the elders of the town, single mothers and plenty of other people that great appreciate the healthiest meat there is! By law every last ounce must not be wasted and I could not imagine wasting any edible part of this delicious moose!
@joelwilkin Well, its not about the wasting of meat, its about the wasting of a rare animal. You eat its meat, so its not wasted. No, wrong. If I kill a polar bear and eat him (not alone of course), that wouldnt be wasting, would it? ... You have enough resources to eat beside rare wild animals. If you really NEED to go hunting, go to New Zealand and hunt deer, there is an overpupulation. ;)
@TheTrueNicki There is over One million moose in Canada alone and the populations in most province's are stable to increasing even with lots of predators and hunters! I have been to NZ 8 times and have been choppered into remote back country and have seen less red deer in a week than I would moose in a week at home!
@TheTrueNicki This moose was not wasted at all, every last tasty morsel was salvaged and carried 100 miles out of the bush to people that greatly appreciate it. I would never shoot and waste the meat on a animal like that!
@TheTrueNicki It is also illegal to sell the meat so it's not about he money, its a healthy meat that i safe to eat as it's as organic as it gets and a very renewable resource!
Perfect shot placement. I love how the arrow disappears into the body you just know that the broadhead is cutting everything up inside with every step he takes!
Nice. I'm from New Zealand so we don't have any moose to hunt here, but a bit curious, are they good game to hunt with a rifle? They seem a bit thick/curious getting so close!
@PhillHeslop This guy is heavy in the rut, and not thinking of anything but the lady moose he hopes to locate. I know guys that have hunted moose for years, and were lucky to get within 500 yards of one!
@PhillHeslop In all seriousness the Moose is the most dangerous animal in the wilderness in the north. Bears won't even fuck with a moose and if wolves get ballsy they might go for a calf. Keep in mind moose weigh up to 1600 pounds an they don't mind charging things that piss them off.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That was insane. If I could get a deer to come in that close with me yelling "Hey! Hey! Get away!" I'd never get out of the woods.... this is why I need to move up north.....
Sheeesh dude, what are you waiting for , shoot it already would ya...might as well take an arrow and go poke at it ..so close, its not even fair to the moose anymore...
@mistahn2deep the closer the shot, the deeper the penetration. that arrow probably minced the animal's lungs and tore a giant hole through most of his body, ending his suffering a lot faster than a 25 yard shot. pretty fair if you ask me.
yeah, poundage and letoff would be nice to know ;-) ... would've been a hard situation with a 60lbs recuve ^^ ... should definitely have 60lbs for that big game, don't you?
i'm just shooting target with barebow recurve 34lbs and plan on a bare compound for target too, but if bowhunting would be legal in germany, i'd definitely give it a try.
@sheepmaster1987 DJ was shooting a 66lb bow i believe and not sure on the let off but guessing 80%. A traditional bow would have been great as he would not have had to draw so quick, just waited for the moose to make his move then draw and shoot. Have had plenty of traditional bow hunters take moose and they all shoot 60lbs plus!!
