@TTTgundams: Nope, or at least not without some other tricks. HiTechnic sells a PF IR Receiver for the NXT that you could buy and program and use, but it will take some money and some work.

You can use the dongle or a computer with built-in Bluetooth support.

This is the same as the NXT 1.0 forklift proect, ins't it? Except it has a reverse light that is quite cool.

i got nxt 2.0 for christmas and it is the greatest lego set ever!!!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMEND GETTING IT!

You do need one piece of string in addition to the NXT kit. Pretty much any string will work, from any hardware store, etc.
