Toonami was awesome when i was 16 as i was an anime fan since 93 when i watched Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival on TBS when i was 12 then i rewatched this show when i was 16 cause i grew up in the 80's with this show and also watched Sailor Moon ( i was in love with the scouts), Outlaw Star, DBZ, Tenchi etc. they were cool. Cheetah is still sexy as ever.
can anyone tell me what was the name of the beat used in this intro this was the beat that started toonami in 98 i cant find this beat anywhere be one hell of a ringtone!!! lol
WTF? the slaughtered one of cartoons' most a amazing openings! Why, why would anyone do such an evil thing? They didn't make a new one, they just butchered a classic!
Actually, Voltron had a Toonami intro right from the start: it was the first show to have one.
Oh, the stuff I wish I could find, like Toonami's second year intro for 1998, or those old skateboarder interviews. Damn my deteriorating tapes that probably don't have anything on them anyway.
I had a CN/Toonami exec email me back in the day, and they said, more-or-less, that they felt that by adding their own opening themes, those shows would fit better into the Toonami theme.
can anyone tell me what was the name of this track used and is it a full track? I remember when cartoon network introduced toonami and all the shows in 97 it used this track
Heh, wow, I sure sounded like a pompous ass there, didn't I? That didn't come out at ALL like I wanted it to.
Seriously, I love Toonami; it's openings, closings, music videos, everything about it, especially the early years. Thank you for uploading a small piece of it.
Also, thanks for uploading those Cartoon Planet clips. I loved watching Cartoon Planet and SG:C2C back in high school.

Thundercats! Awesome! If the entire show was animated as good as the opening it would have been my favorite. It's still one of the best!

Freakin Sailor Moon, Thundercats, Dragon Ball Z, and Johny Quest, ever weekday after school

Great show, loved cartoon network alright... BUT CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY THE HELL DID THEY CHANGE THE ORIGINAL OPENING SONG?

I had a CN/Toonami exec email me back in the day, and they said, more-or-less, that they felt that by adding their own opening themes, those shows would fit better into the Toonami theme.
Whatever.

Toonami had good introductions, but they paled in comparison to the originals.

They had done the same thing with Sailor Moon to.

I know. Cartoon Network used to rock back in the day. I guess we're just getting too old.
BenW783a 3 years ago
Im going to start recording these shows and put them in a time capsul. Along with pictures from the 80s and everything.
windowwisher 3 years ago
Glad you like. I *know* I have a clean recording of it somewhere (without the green ID bar). I'll be on the lookout and post it once I track it down.
Thanks for the comment.

thank youuuu!!! geez i have been looking for this toonami opening forever!!! the moltar days.. wow throw back. good stuff.
PrincessAurora3 3 years ago
As someone that's been trying to find Moltar-era clips for quite since these originally aired, I thank you.
I could do without those openings and closings, though, no offense.
Got any more Moltar-era clips? Maybe some of those interviews with skateboarders and the like?
Sprocketman 3 years ago
No offense taken. Toonami did have a lot of nerve to jack with the original opening & ending themes.
I have hours and hours of Toonami programming from 1997 on through 2003, and most of it features Moltar.
I'll post more of these kinds of clips once I run across them.
Thanks for the comment.
BenW783a 3 years ago
Um...I meant YOUR openings and closings, sorry. I actually loved Toonami's openings and closings.
Maybe you could donate said clips to the Toonami Digital Arsenal?

That cracked me up. Don't worry, only a small piece of me thought you sounded like a pompous ass (but only for a second).
The rest of me understands that things don't always come out the way we intend in written form.
Thanks for all your comments and praise. I will continue to post more videos in the near future.
