The Catholic Church has grown from 437,000,000 in 1950 to 1,116,000,000 in 2008. The increase in the Catholic Church grows at about 11% every 10 years. A further 1,000,000,000 are made up of 33,000 denominations of Christian Churches. Christ's Church is thriving in the World today. May God shine on the 12,000,000 LDS.
@gcl82003 The statistics you cite are impressive--almost triple. But in the same period the LDS population has grown by about 13 X. It's also likely that since Catholicism doesn't keep detailed, accurate records that a very large number of people claimed by the Catholics have long-since become members of other churches. Myself included. And don't forget that approximately 100,000-130,000 Catholics join the LDS church ANNUALLY. Your prayer is being answered--God is indeed shining on us.
@awabob Thank you for your response. I wonder if you share my concern that although there are over 2,500,000,000 people who say they are members of the Christian Church that less than 40% are regular attenders of Church and out of that 40% only small number per Church keep the Church going. It is the loyal members who dedicate their talents and time week by week that make the Church. I think God has a special blessing for these wonderful people. I am sure it is the same in the LDS. God be with U
@gcl82003 And thank YOU for YOUR response!! YES, I absolutely share that concern. It is too bad that claims of church membership never seem to translate to actual attendance. We're about as active as any religion and I think we're, like, 50% active. What a world we'd have--and how strong Christianity would be if all of us actually internalized our Church's doctrines--or at least if we all just went to church! Yep, with ya on this one.
