Well, I didn't find him scary. I thought he was really funny, and the humour came from the fact that he had an outsize nose. To a seven year old in 1980, the humour was spot on - it's called slapstick.

The fact that people are on here talking about penises and drugs says more about the sad state of their own heads. Why spoil something essentially innocent and fun by always associating it with sex, murder or psychological terror? Too much splatter horror and porn in subsequent years, i reckon!

It's the completely white face, coupled with the vacant staring eyes and fixed grimace - like grin, not to mention the bizzarre facial proportions. The nose is the just the icing on the cake. To say this scene contains slapstick, or "spot on humour" is absolutley ridiculous, however. It has neither.

I have to disagree, uberkwernow. I uploaded this purely because it was something that definitely left a lasting impression on me as a child... and not in a good way!
