  • WOW! I am a born again Christian, but from a purely existential point of view this poem is brilliant. What is it that we feel so strongly? Is it not love? Love is the most powerful of forces. Can you understand why God would have created in order to both love and be loved? Even if all would turn away from Him, just the one would make it all worth while.

  • I wept. You are an extraordinary poet Stefan.

  • thank you for opening my eyes... i cried but i still feel better somehow after watching this

    :/

  • :'( Very Touching....So much emotion, soul. My sincerest condolences Stef

  • I lost my mum in unfortunate circumstances a few months ago and this really touched me

  • True.

  • Head held high.

  • My thoughts...

  • Sounds like it's for Stef's father, his voice cracks as though it is, but then again I'm not sure I could read that entire text slowly without my voice cracking as well....at the bottom of his text it says it was for a friend's father.

  • @Nebbyker Except Stef hates his father and has disowned his him.

  • @Nebbyker Except that Stef hates his father and has disowned him

  • Seriously, I have to wonder... who could dislike this video? Agree or disagree with Stef on anarchy, atheism or how child abuse affects people... but we all know that this video was beautiful, and deserves to be recognized on its own as a work of art.

  • @N7a7v7i

    Yes.

  • Wow stunning! is that your own Stef?

  • Deep.

  • My sincerest condolensces Stef. Great eulogy, certainly he was proud of you for so much.

  • what a beautiful video to watch as I leave to attend my uncle's funeral/memorial - thank you for this, Stef.

  • Who is the Arthur?

  • @FatBastardPi you mean author

  • @FatBastardPi Dudley Moore

  • So true. My condolences.

  • Folks, the Bible doesn't teach us how the Heaven works, it only teaches us how to get to Heaven,

on the same coin, Stef doesn't teach us how the Anarchy will work, he only teaches us how to get to Anarchy

  • @CalgaryAlpineStyle Um, no, I'm pretty sure an extensive amount of work he has done details how an anarchic society will work,

  • Thumbs up if ray william johnson sent you here!

    Just kidding lol.

Amazing vid. My poor brain cell (I call him pluto) feels like it just finished a decathalon, trying to keep up with the imagery of the poem.

    Amazing.

  • You read it perfectly. Extremely moving.

  • wow this is beautiful, much better than the cocky replies to mails from idiots you have been uploading lately.

  • Wow...just wow.

  • My god my friend's dad passed away this week... :/

  • cant watch the end. just like i cant watch my father get old... my grandmother 93... I cant take it

  • Thanks for the vid and narration. Once you realize, and you will, that there is, in fact, God, Source, Prime Creator, whatever somebody wants to call it, and that we are one with that God experiencing reality, creating reality subjectively, yet collectively, the grief that you might feel with the passing of a Father will feel very much misplaced emotion subverting the truth of the continuance of our essence beyond this physical body.. not religion, not good vs bad, but singularity in love.

  • @Eraser7622 Are we the universe experiencing itself? Can that be equated to self knowledge/awareness?

  • @BrainInSkull

Sure, that's one way of putting it, but the universe itself is a creation of conscious awareness and there are countless universes, so the prime creator, or God, of whom/which we are one, is experiencing itself through separation.. or duality if you prefer.. the ying/yang.. and we will return to the singularity once each of us has experienced ourselves subjectively.. to return all experience and awareness to God.. to ourselves. And we are on the verge of entering a new phase!

  • @Eraser7622 Of course I have to ask what reason and evidence do you have that supports such a wonderful claim:)

  • @BrainInSkull

And, of course, I can offer none which will fit the rigid box you place before me with that question. The good news is that you already know.. the truth is inside you and all you have to do is remember it like so many are now doing.. you needed struggle with it, it will come to you. And, the even better news, it will come to you very soon.

    Namaste

  • @Eraser7622 I'll be here:)

  • Waw. amazing. truly beautifull. i wonder what inspired it? id love to hear about it more, perhaps at the calling show,

  • When you said "Watches, even, passed on!" around 1:30, I had major Christopher Walken in Pulp Fiction flashbacks. FTW

  • made me cry

  • Nice.

  • Superbly written, narrated, and graphically put together.. touching my heart..

  • It is so rare to hear words from the heart without Ego. This is an example of this. Eyes welled with tears. I have an old father. Thanks Stef

  • One of YouTube's finer moments - poetry, music, images, narration all working together - almost a new art form, or at least combination. To say "farewell to secrets," that is going to be something all of us and each of us must do. An amazing thought. Wonderful words, Stef.

  • This represents our waivering grasp at a finite universe trying in vain to ascend to infinity and with no construct at comprehension, to the detail of yesterday.

  • I wonder what it must feel like to have a father who loves you, someone whose death you would mourn. With my father, I mourn the life I could have had without him in my life.

  • Excellent!

Although I highly doubt this was Stef's father seeing as they never had a strong bond, plus the description says it was written for a friend in 1998.

  • A cruel truth is illustrated very well here: Only other people die.

  • Stefan, this poem brought tears to my eyes.

What a lovely poem. Very touching and powerful.

  • That was awesome. Not sure if you lost your father or not as the desc did not say, but if so, I wish you strength and all the best for you and your family.

  • i would imagine any father would be proud of this tribute.

  • Thanks for sharing that, Stefan. I found it very moving, well done sir.

  • Enlightening and touching

  • Steph I may disagree with you at times, but in that poem I saw our common humanity and emotion, and grief with you for your loss. Deepest sympathies.

  • Death is the most difficult thing that an atheist must face. I would rather spend an eternity in the suffering of any hell than to go without consciousness and thought.

This loss of imagined immorality is what prevented me from admitting to myself that I was an atheist: I NEEDED an afterlife.

But, maybe it was a greater appreciation for the value of limited life that allowed me to reject faith in the end. Though, honestly, I cannot think of where/when/why this happened in my life.

  • Beautiful...I miss my dad and ever so much more now...but its a good thing.

If you have lost someone I am sorry...My all the wonder of their beauty be with you.

  • I'm sorry to hear of your loss Stef!

  • Good observations about the seasons. They return because they do not live.

    *hugs* Sorry for your loss....

  • I am sorry for your Loss Stef.... Great video full of feelings.

  • Thought provoking video. Life is a wonderful experience even if you think its not, so wonderful. But death is always hard to deal with, not because its death itself. But the consequences of death. What ever you think happens after you pass on no one really knows, the consequences. And if we knew would you charish life the same...This is the reason I would rather celebrate the life rather than the death, of the person. And every year after should celbrate it as a birthday, and talk of the memores

  • People this doesnt mean he just lost his father. At the end of the thingy below the video. It is said "Written in 1998 for the funeral of a friend's father."

  • I'm sorry to hear of your loss Stef.

Your father a builder I see, must have been a good man,

He will be forever proud of you Stef ,,never forget the memories matey.

  • Perfect, incredibly written, evocative and thoughtful. This is likely one of the best examinations of mortality ever created.

  • Lost my mother last may. Worst day of my life, easily.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • I just 'lost' my father as well. Its hard to lose someone who has been in your life for as long as you can remember. This video was touching and the poem was incredibly beautiful! Thank you for this.

  • Take his ash. Put it in a capsule. Wear it around your neck. I'm doing that when the time comes.

  • I just lost my niece, 24, to an auto accident. Thank you for this video. You are loved.

    Peace be with you.

  • Written in 1998 for the funeral of a friend's father.

  • A tear-jerker, indeed. Wonderful piece of poetry.

  • so sorry for your loss. i loved your vid.

  • As grief endures - peace to you.

  • I love your videos Stefan, they are so profound. Very satisfying.

  • Does this mean you'll talk to your mother again?

  • hes in a better place now

  • i have no words. im so moved over these words. i have also loved and also lost. best wishes, Angel......

  • Beautiful video, Stef. I am sorry for your loss.

  • Very beautiful. I still fear the day I will lose my pa.

  • This is touching and beautiful. Thank you for sharing such deep emotion.

  • This is truly powerful, thanks so much for sharing

  • Ouch.

  • have you ever read Stanislav Ignaccy Witkiewicz's "The water Hen"?

  • The memory of my father as a child, is now just a remnant resembling fear, that now lies shattered by the truth of his own failure..

  • My sincere condolences.

  • @MrBankRuns Figure of speech dumbass.

  • I won't survive the death of whom I love.

  • Nice rereading/renewal. Your 2007 video brought tears to my eyes a year ago. Very profound.

  • The seasons lie to us.

    I was touched. Thanks stef.

  • so... this is the atheistic version of "spirituality"? nicely narrated, but kind of empty, hopeless and without love.

    oh, atheist! duh! that's right!

    best narrating voice.... ever, though

  • @rtardbox

    Philistine.

  • @slipcurve

    Proletariat.

  • @rtardbox

I take that as a compliment.

  • @rtardbox Yup, and without tasteless trolling, also

  • Sorry to hear this. I know how this feels as well. Beautifully articulated emotion, priceless in more ways than one. As we cannot know or fathom the depths of the lives of those we have loved and lost, for what it is worth, this video is a piece of you that will not be forgotten by me personally. Love your work. Thank you for sharing with us.

  • wow. This is beautiful. A great display of the flowers of genius that bloom in the wake of dispair. Your words have etched upon me the inspiration and a new found fascination for complex literature. I thank you for this gift.

  • Tremendous

  • All the very best wishes for you. I have lost both my parents and know the pangs of emptiness it brings. I guess it is a price we all pay for being close to someone. Again, all the best.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. There is, in my experience, no more painful loss than the death of a beloved parent. You have both my sympathy and my empathy.

  • I never had a father. At least, i can know that i will never feel that pain...of losing my father. So in that sense, i should be grateful. but i can imagine the pain, and it's awful.

  • Well Im going to cry in a corner now

  • I could not have given this tribute without crying.

In fact, just typing this I'm crying.

I remember losing my father, too. Soon, my mother will die. I'm off to write to her to tell her how much I lover her.

    Thank you, and excuse me.

  • My deepest condolences.

  • That was worthy. My condolences to your loss. You shared... and I took, hoping through sharing a seed was planted, -making something new appear.

  • Wonderfully written

  • wow.... just wow.

  • well...aww man =[

  • My favourite poem

  • At least your fathers flesh and blood legacy will continue at least a little longer my friend.

  • Damn that hit home.

  • Heavy.

  • God damn, that was amazing.

  • well this was depressing

  • Sorry for you loss

  • Sorry for your loss Stefan. I lost my father only a few months ago and this video puts into words the feelings that rush to me every time I take notice of the things he's left behind and the way he's left them. Thank you for the video.

  • Wow, That was beautifully tragic. very powerful!

  • This is deeply moving...especially for those that have lost their father.

  • did stef dad die recently or something? description says 1998 for a friends father?

  • @meadowsirl i think that is where it was first written/used

  • Wonderful. Touching. Thoughtful. True.

    Well-written, Stefan. Thanks.
