WOW! I am a born again Christian, but from a purely existential point of view this poem is brilliant. What is it that we feel so strongly? Is it not love? Love is the most powerful of forces. Can you understand why God would have created in order to both love and be loved? Even if all would turn away from Him, just the one would make it all worth while.
Sounds like it's for Stef's father, his voice cracks as though it is, but then again I'm not sure I could read that entire text slowly without my voice cracking as well....at the bottom of his text it says it was for a friend's father.
Seriously, I have to wonder... who could dislike this video? Agree or disagree with Stef on anarchy, atheism or how child abuse affects people... but we all know that this video was beautiful, and deserves to be recognized on its own as a work of art.
Thanks for the vid and narration. Once you realize, and you will, that there is, in fact, God, Source, Prime Creator, whatever somebody wants to call it, and that we are one with that God experiencing reality, creating reality subjectively, yet collectively, the grief that you might feel with the passing of a Father will feel very much misplaced emotion subverting the truth of the continuance of our essence beyond this physical body.. not religion, not good vs bad, but singularity in love.
Sure, that's one way of putting it, but the universe itself is a creation of conscious awareness and there are countless universes, so the prime creator, or God, of whom/which we are one, is experiencing itself through separation.. or duality if you prefer.. the ying/yang.. and we will return to the singularity once each of us has experienced ourselves subjectively.. to return all experience and awareness to God.. to ourselves. And we are on the verge of entering a new phase!
And, of course, I can offer none which will fit the rigid box you place before me with that question. The good news is that you already know.. the truth is inside you and all you have to do is remember it like so many are now doing.. you needed struggle with it, it will come to you. And, the even better news, it will come to you very soon.
One of YouTube's finer moments - poetry, music, images, narration all working together - almost a new art form, or at least combination. To say "farewell to secrets," that is going to be something all of us and each of us must do. An amazing thought. Wonderful words, Stef.
This represents our waivering grasp at a finite universe trying in vain to ascend to infinity and with no construct at comprehension, to the detail of yesterday.
I wonder what it must feel like to have a father who loves you, someone whose death you would mourn. With my father, I mourn the life I could have had without him in my life.
Thanks so much for sharing this beutiful poem. I can't express how well your words resonate in me at hearing your grief described. I lost my dear dad now 16 years ago which impelled me to ponder how ephemeral this life truly is. I still catch my self ready to ring him up when I yearn for his counsel and share in his secrets and history . My deepest condolence for your loss and great thanks for your generouse eloquance. Zed
That was awesome. Not sure if you lost your father or not as the desc did not say, but if so, I wish you strength and all the best for you and your family.
Death is the most difficult thing that an atheist must face. I would rather spend an eternity in the suffering of any hell than to go without consciousness and thought.
This loss of imagined immorality is what prevented me from admitting to myself that I was an atheist: I NEEDED an afterlife.
But, maybe it was a greater appreciation for the value of limited life that allowed me to reject faith in the end. Though, honestly, I cannot think of where/when/why this happened in my life.
Thought provoking video. Life is a wonderful experience even if you think its not, so wonderful. But death is always hard to deal with, not because its death itself. But the consequences of death. What ever you think happens after you pass on no one really knows, the consequences. And if we knew would you charish life the same...This is the reason I would rather celebrate the life rather than the death, of the person. And every year after should celbrate it as a birthday, and talk of the memores
People this doesnt mean he just lost his father. At the end of the thingy below the video. It is said "Written in 1998 for the funeral of a friend's father."
I just 'lost' my father as well. Its hard to lose someone who has been in your life for as long as you can remember. This video was touching and the poem was incredibly beautiful! Thank you for this.
Sorry to hear this. I know how this feels as well. Beautifully articulated emotion, priceless in more ways than one. As we cannot know or fathom the depths of the lives of those we have loved and lost, for what it is worth, this video is a piece of you that will not be forgotten by me personally. Love your work. Thank you for sharing with us.
wow. This is beautiful. A great display of the flowers of genius that bloom in the wake of dispair. Your words have etched upon me the inspiration and a new found fascination for complex literature. I thank you for this gift.
All the very best wishes for you. I have lost both my parents and know the pangs of emptiness it brings. I guess it is a price we all pay for being close to someone. Again, all the best.
I'm very sorry for your loss. There is, in my experience, no more painful loss than the death of a beloved parent. You have both my sympathy and my empathy.
I never had a father. At least, i can know that i will never feel that pain...of losing my father. So in that sense, i should be grateful. but i can imagine the pain, and it's awful.
Sorry for your loss Stefan. I lost my father only a few months ago and this video puts into words the feelings that rush to me every time I take notice of the things he's left behind and the way he's left them. Thank you for the video.
