My daddy sang this song to me many times when I was little. I guess it reminded him of me or something...I love you daddy! Thank you for introducing me to wonderful music :)
Saw him perform (lip sync) this on American Bandstand. He had to explain to Dick Clark that it wasn't about the Sylvester Stallone movie. I lost a lot of respect in the eyes of my hard rock friends when I showed em this so called "corny".45 in my collection abd took alot of ridicule..From then on had to play it only when no one was around. Thanks for the memories with this video.Just wish I had the original ,45. Wouldn't hide it and play it secretly anymore either
This song is an emotional roller coaster like no other I've heard. It has all the sweet romanticism of young love with the couple building a home and a family so early in life. Then, the tragic grief of a husband suddenly losing his wife; a young child losing its mother. The subsequent emotional struggle of the father raising a daughter that reminds him so vividly of his lost love. They simply don't write 'em like this any more.
makes me cry every time! But I love it...I had the Super Hits of the 70's album (K-tel) and remember sitting in front of my record player singing this!
I too, had been looking for this song for years. I didn't know the artist, just thought the title had to be "Rocky" -- It held fond memories of when I was little and had a crush on a guy named Rocky. The crush lasted for yrs. but after 35 yrs of not hearing this song I was so jazzed to hear it again. Thanks for posting last year I found Dickie Lee's version and thought his is what I remembered, but after hearing this, Austin Robert's is 100% the version of "Rocky" I remember.
I hadn't heard this song for over 20 years. Just heard it again today and had to pull the car over because I was crying so hard. My sister at age 46 passed away this past January and she loved this song...and many of these 70s songs, as do I. Thanks for making it so easy to find as now I can listen any time I need to.
i've been looking for this song knew the title the artist's name i played with steve austin got the last name mixed up with the first did know roberts being the last, sweet song i think he was a one hit wonder though funny how those ones stay with you through the years though.
Rocky hit the Billboard Hot 100 on July 19, 1975. It did not hit Billboard's Hot Country Singles until August 23rd, 1975 so it appears that Dickie Lee's recording was actually a country cover of the original Austin Roberts hit. When I was in Germany I purchased the hit German disc by Frank Farien who was later famous as the producer of MIlli Manilli!
finally,it took me a long time to find this song, and who sung it,my brother and i been trying to find it after our younger brother took his life. thanks for putting this on,means alot..
@heartsonfire38 - I am so sorry for your loss - It's so hard to try and connect with people online - I have experienced loss - May I say that I truly feel for you and genuinely mean it? I hope you can believe it - This song means a lot to me because I lost someone as well - I feel your pain and I wish you the best of Love and healing - Much Love to you and your family...
My name is Rocky, actually, and while I was born after this song had been out for some years, my mom liked to remind me of this song, she would sing it to me all the time. Until about 4 years ago, I never knew where it came from or who did it.
@1mikie19 You are right Austin Roberts did a great deal of the music for the show, but this song can still bring tears to the eyes of a 6' 3" construction worker.
I had this song along with Run, Joey Run, another 70s tear jerker just featured on Glee, on a K-Tel Album, Music Express. This song made me cry when I was 9 and still does. I miss the story songs of the 70s.
Thank you so much for posting this song...I have been looking for it for 30 years or so. I never heard the whole song until just now...my brother, who died when we were kids used to sing it to himself, and it has been stuck in my head all this time...a lifetime of wondering who the artist was and how it actually sounded has finally been satisfied. Thank you for that.
this is 1 of my all time favourite songs, it took me forever to get hold of it, nobody has a clue what i'm talking about when i ask for this song i finally got it on cd tho after trying for 10 or 11 years

I loved this song when it came out. A rock song with country lyrics. With all the remakes coming out these days, it's a wonder no one's done it yet.

Great song, I remember this was a on a compilation tape called "Hit Machine" we got from a petrol station on the way to a family holiday to Hastings!
Hears a fun fact, did you know that Austin Roberts was the guy who sang the "chase scene" songs on the old scooby doo cartoons?
Many thanks mate.
