  • I am writing my thesis, running short on time, and on top of that I get irregular heartbeats. I know that it's due to stress, and maybe too much coffee. I stopped drinking coffee, I only drink water, eat fruit, and healthy food now, but the irregularities still occur almost the entire day. I get around 3-6 every minute. My heart misses a beat, and then beats harder the next time. When I run or get worked up it stops, when I sit down to write it starts. Should I see a doctor?

  • Thank u so much u really helped a lot!

  • im a male 28, undergoing so much more added stress these past two months and low and behold i start feeling this one strong beat and then back to normal, it would never bother me during my jogs or workouts but now its creeping into my jogs where i feel the strong beat but then i continue running fine. when i lift weights i never get that beat. though i was gonna drop dead too.

  • I'm male 46 and have been having heart palps for about a year now. Some days hardly nothing at all.But some days 1/3 of my day is trying to put off 'another' trip to the ER for a false alarm heart attack.I have had nearly 20 visits to three different hospitals thinking I was about to die...I am not exaggerating! I've had 2 ambulance rides.I've had too much to list done checking this out.Even heart cath cause my chest was hurting.Turned out to be heart burn.Several dye tests looking but nothing .

  • @SanEverett Heart palps are a night mare!! I have anxiety attacks as well that I inherited from mom, thanks mom lol! So I have to really watch caffeine and not too much lettuce which gives me heart burn and gets the anxiety going which gets the palps going..

Its a weird sense of terror......I can be sitting with my daughter holding the little grandbaby and HELLO here it comes..I just don't say nothing to nobody and drink some water and try to relax..I am glad to read these stories too like mine!

  • @SanEverett Also I can get weird pains sometimes in my chest like sharp nerve pains. They only last seconds and don't happen every day an might not feel nothing for a few months then HELLO here one comes lol..

Not a fun thing at all...The doctors attribute it to over worked nerves etc panic attack etc....

Again, its really been nice to read some of these stories..I thought I had some weird abnormality going on that soon I would drop dead like a rock ..

  • @SanEverett OMG!! me too what is that? it use to me like for few seconds but now it changed it lasts like a minute or 2 and its hard for me to breath so i breath from my mouth and not into my chest because it hurts so bad

  • I get these too and it scares the shit out of me. I have a health anxiety issue so I know it's brought on from that. Im 24 and I've been to the ER about four times thinking I was having a heart attack. I've gotten multiple ekg's, chest x-rays and an echocardiograms done. The doctors tell me I'm fine. Deep down I know this but when you start to experience this everything you've been told goes out the window. I'm having skipped heart beats as I type this now. I just get so scared that my heart is

  • @fmicheo416

    LOL!

Im in the very same boat as you,my friend.

    Sucks no?

Just had a trip to the ER today.

Was told the same thing "You seem to be fine,Here's some anxiety pills"

    <_<

I mean...I WANT them to be right.

I just can't get myself to belive them

  • @fmicheo416 last time i went to the doctor i was tld i have rare heart beats and that she hears so weird sound behind it then shes like your ok watahell i dnt think so and she's like the chest pain its part of growing up i been having it ever since i was i think 14 now im 19

  • My son is 12 and gets them. Two EKGs read "abnormal" so we are seeing a cardiologist because he can't play football or take certain medications until we know for sure he is clear. Good, well not good, to see so many people have this. I feel better knowing how common it is and that it's more than likely not harmful.

  • Yea I have the PVC I get a strong beat it freaked me out at first cuz I just started noticing them recently I thought my heart was going out

  • The research I did on google confirm what this Doctor says. Palpitations don't scare me. What scares me is thinking its a heart attack. They always come late in the evening when I'm laying down. I get nervous my heart beats fast and I get light headed and shaky. The only thing you can do is try and relax.

  • @gungfu777 hi, I've been having this problem for almost a year, recently i had to wear a holter monitor (a.k.a. heart monitor), after the results came out, doctor said the heart is healthy, so he suggested me to seek a mental treatment. He tells it's because of anxiety.

  • @qarnov my doc told me it was mental too and i ended up having a cardiac ablation...it helped alot, but maybe headed for another one...yuck!

  • @gungfu777 exactly the same here. I actually rationally know I will get through it but in the middle of heart palpitations just freak out.

  • LOL irony i just had one typing that last comment. jesus.

  • Palps SUCK. I've had them for about 5 years, but found out just last year because a heart doc made me wear a monitor for a month. mine are usually for about 5 seconds but recently have reached about 30. they can be pretty scary, take your breath away and get you light-headed.

  • im 16 and i have them.....it already happened to mee about 5 times...i get really anxious and scared :s

  • Palpitations usually result from anxiety, but also low blood sugar. I use to get them REALLY BAD whenever I dieted. If you are on a diet, that could be the cause.

Also, the more you think about them, the worse they usually get. Try reading a book, watching tv, or doing something to get your mind off your body. And breath slowly and not so deep. Hyperventilation or over breathing will also exacerbate heart palpitations.

If none of this helps, have your thyroid checked.

  • One problem of heart palpitations is that it usually causes the sufferer to take deep breaths to relax, BUT over-breathing or hyperventilation will CAUSE or exacerbate palpitations.

If you have palpitations, try to relax, and slow your breathing. You will experience “air hunger” and feel like you need to breath more, but if you can resist the desire to breath faster and deeper, within a few minutes you should feel an improvement and palpitations should diminish.

  • I've had these for ten years - they are a pain in the arse. I am seriously fed up with them. They are scary - they take your breath away and I am really sick of them of them now.

  • @Nemie125 HEY I HEAR YA IM SO AFRAID IM GOING TO DIE I MEAN THAT FEELING SUCK I FEEL ALONE THEN IM AFRAID TO LOOK UP INFO I MAY NOT LIKE WHAT I HEAR SO I JUS HATE THE WHOLE THING

  • at what age can this start, i started getting them when i turned 21.

  • i am 20 and i am experiencing them all the time.they are accompanied with lack of breath and burning sensation in the chest...

  • I got them alot tday and i thought i was gonna have a heart attack and die and im only 13! but hearing this and knowing im not alone and its not life threatening i feel so much better about it! :D

  • @Lucysugarplum HEY I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL I KEEP THINKING ITS SOMETHING REALLY BAD I STAY SO WORRIED I STARTED TO PRAY AN TAKE DEEP BREATHS MY ULTRASOUND SHOWED NOTHING SO I JUS STARTED DEALING WITH IT I STILL WANT ANOTHER OPINION

  • Ive been getting them more frequently lately, but what the doc says here is exactly what my cardiologist said...it's a damm strange feeling, but they are in fact absolutely harmless. I may try an anti-anxiety med like Xanax soon, simply because i can't have these things running my life...feel free anyone to write me if you have something that works for you for palps. Maybe we can help each other...

  • the sort of Palpitations the doc is talking about is just what i get, have been for years, im 34 now and workout 3 times a week bodybuilding, and still get them when im relaxing and when im in bed.....if still freaks me out....

  • mine only recently started happening this morning when i was laying down my heart beat started going lub dub dub i don't know what it is

  • im 23 and started suffering from heart palpitations since the feb. my palpitations only happended when i bent down to pick something up then when i layed down for sleep, i went to the ER when i had a very strong and long one i thought i was gonna die. had ekg and was normal. I had episode today, i was nervous but hours earlier. is it anxiety?

  • @Heatheretts thats what i had. and im only 13! the first time i had it was absolutley horrible. it mostly happens to me when im just relaxing. and boom i have a palpitation out of no where. had this for a year. your not alone

  • @yummycocacola 1 get checked out 2 dont worry til the doc sais to your more than likely havn anxiety which ya it sucks but u will b fine
