I can't stand all these washed-up rock stars who "find Jesus" and start writing shitty music. Artists are more often than not completely fucked up in the head and partially insane - because they are in touch with other creative realms of the mind that the average person is not. Drugs and music go together. Period. If he wants to straighten up so he can raise his kids, fine. But I'm sick of hearing all this praise about him growing as a musician, because he's not.
Drugs and music do NOT go together. What goes together is creativity, which is what KoRn had before they got signed and started to lose their ability to maintain creativity. It happens to all bands.
AT LEAST 80% of all the greatest rock bands, Korn included, were getting fucked up all the time when they were writing their best stuff. I will admit that it usually always results in some sort of crash where the creative energy tapers off, but the initial gems are always worth it. The studio version of this song is almost tolerable because they put that auto-wah effect on his lead guitar track. That was a nice move, because the effect covers up very lifeless playing.

I have some early recordings by this guitarist and in his heyday, he was pretty innovative. I just don't think he nailed this piece too well. Thank God I didn't post something offensive!

I own music from all genres. Korn often get knocked for their later catalogue, but I thought the first album was quite groundbreaking - I own the second also. I still listen to 'Twist' quite a lot. (possibly my favourite track). As for the technical thing - it's an issue in some forms of music, but I don't regard it as an essential requirement.

His lead playing sounds like some kid who's been taking lessons for a year. I love(d) Korn, but I am very disappointed to hear this. I thought for all those years there was a great lead player under the baggy pants and dreadlocks, but I was wrong. He just shits out the same dozen licks as every other 15 year old "guitar player".

No - he doesn't have to shred! But his string bends need work and the solo sounds a little amtuerish for someone of his stature. He's going up and down one scale for the duration and there isn't much feel in it, which is odd considering the subject matter for the song.

Look, I'm just a guitarist offering my own view on his playing style. I haven't said anything particularly aggressive and I don't appreciate being told to 'shut up' or that I'm 'jealous' of someone I've never even met.
I have some early recordings by this guitarist and in his heyday, he was pretty innovative. I just don't think he nailed this piece too well. Thank God I didn't post something offensive!

That's Ok - apology excepted (not in a 'Darth Vader' way). I find things can get very dehumanised on these comments boards.
I own music from all genres. Korn often get knocked for their later catalogue, but I thought the first album was quite groundbreaking - I own the second also. I still listen to 'Twist' quite a lot. (possibly my favourite track). As for the technical thing - it's an issue in some forms of music, but I don't regard it as an essential requirement.

As far as guitar playing in koRn, it was unique, nothing special. Not taking a single thing away from him or the other 4 members, just saying what I think.
