The Defender is a "tool", not an "SUV", not a "weekend car", not a "heading up the ski-field" car, it's a tool, like a hammer/chainsaw/Boarder Collie.... In the old days, they were used by farmers, explorers, (proper) hunters. But now, they are also used by people who don't need them, and only on tarmac. The end of an era.

Arguably, the Defender has a slight edge over the Land Cruiser overall for it's versatility and aluminium body (makes it less top-heavy). It's debatable though, they've been competing with each other since 1951. It's almost like Canon/Nikon debate.

@horacio1464 the Hummer is too heavy, wide, low clearance, expensive, bad handling, did i mention heavy? to be of any real use off road. it is a luxury vehicle that can be driven off road, but unless you put lots more money into it there is little hope for it off road. with a bit of work anyone with fabrication skills can make a far more capable vehicle from a junker for less than 5k while your pretty hummer comes stock for 40k
