The US is the sole global hegemon (superpower), it is the wealthiest nation on earth, the US spends more on their military then the next 20 countries spend on their militaries combined. The US can have a warship in any part of the world within 4 hours.
The timeline for this game is ludicrous, but then again it is just a game. I think a more realistic enemy would have been India, China, Turkey, Brazil or Mexico - all are predicted to grow by heaps in the next 25-50 years

@jihadthat777 While I still dont really agree with you about china, I completely agree with you on the Unions. Unions are the worst thing to come to this country. Especially Unions in the public sector. For example teachers. It used to be that they would have good benefits but lower pay. NOW, its higher pay then most private sectors. Its unfair. And the government has to chador to every aspect to them so they can get elected again. It's an unfair cycle and it needs to be changed.
