Blastois,thyphlosion,swampert,­infernape,serpierior are the best starter in their own region.

Infernape can beat any of the other 2 one on one, Close Combat on Empoleon which gets STAB and is super effective, and Fire Blast or Flamethrower on Torterra for STAB and super effectiveness too.

It has a higher speed so it'll go first, unless Empoleon uses Aqua Jet, which shouldn't finish Infernape off.

Torterra can beat Empoleon with Earthquake and also Infernape with Earthquake.  Infernape can beat Torterra with Flare Blitz and Empoleon with Close Combat. Empoleon can beat Infernape with Hydro Cannon and Torterra with Drill Peck.

Torterra wins. HAHA! (No, really, I love grass types and he is my starter so yeah.)

They all counter each other, and it all goes down to if you want a Hulky (lol), clever grass type, a super-powered, speedy fire type, or a special water type with many resistances.

It's slow, but its' Ground-type means Drill Peck and Fire-type attacks are both neutral and it's Defense and Special Defense would allow it to survive said neutral attacks. So Torterra pwns.

omg i <3 empoleon in this hes my hero...in platinum...when it was a prinplup i wuz lost in wayward cave he wuz my only non-fainted pokemon...and it stayed in till the end and at the end of the cave my egg hatched into togepi :D then a few battles later it evolved into empoleon and then from there on i beat the rest of the gym leaders on my first try :DDDD <3 empoleon
