I moved my family to France this year. So we're all outsiders in some way. Next year we'll move to Mali, and we'll be even further outside the culture around us. A friend of ours there was given a medicine that is an audio toxin. She was deaf by the morning. So... I'm interested in deaf culture. I would love to be able to follow this video. Is there any chance you could caption it?

I don't have the money to purchase this to watch it, and I don't know ASL. (My hearing-impaired mother chose not to learn due to regional bias where we used to live). Do you know where I can see this on-line with captions?
In cape coral, FL, there's a high school that you go at 6pm on thursdays (adult school program) and you go for ASL....it is like $76.00 only once a week...
I totally agree, I am hearing but it angers me that hearing community demands translation or CC. When do THEY CC their videos? I know its a cultural thing and they don't understand, but really hearing community... its not all about you!

Deaf people have scars from the way some hearing people treated, or treat them, it's nothing personal, I think. And this person is really just letting it out of his/her chest. It's good to him/her, and to us. Even if it's a bit harsh at first, it's a way to understanding each other and the cultural differences.
Hey, I live in both worlds (hearing and deaf) and I really respect them both. Well if the hearing are not CCing their things, I'm asking them to do so, and if the deaf let the hearing out I'll ask them no to. Not because this one is more im portant than the other, but because WE can start making things change.
It's not all about hearing, as ist's not all about deaf. It's about PEOPLE. And if we act less like this, maybe, just maybe, things begin to change on both sides.
