According to the TRO the original Awesome had 4 ppcs, it was only later that it was reduced to the 3 with pulse lasers and SRM

Technically yes, but if you read the novels there are issues with adapting the technology. Most clan tech is designed to be modular, while IS tech isn't. In other words, entire systems have to be reworked to accommodate it.

However, lvl 3 tech does allow for IS ER weapons. Basically, they were developed by reverse engineering clan tech.

And if you don't know what I'm talking about, try google searching battletech. It's a helluva lot different than the mechwarrior spin-offs.

Well, tech levels yes. The bit about adapting IS tech and modding IS mechs is really only fluff text. In all the games- table top, PC, or otherwise- You're able to mod IS mechs and make custom designs pretty easily. So it's not unusual to see modified IS mechs on the battlefield. But in the novels they tried to make the universe feel more real and solid, I guess. You should read the blood of Kerensky trilogy. There's a lot of useful info there. It's by Michael A. Stackpool.
