For all those who want your IP to be accessed via internet, THIS DO NOT WORK. You will get the error "The connection has timed out

The server at [IP] is taking too long to respond." Would be useful for a local network but not for internet.

@techtutorials9 - You do realize that there's absolutely no value in changing your IP this way - you're just changing it on your internal network. You cannot set a static IP on your external network - it is assigned by your ISP...

@jjcful - this is why. If you don't want your IP to keep changing you have two options. 1: Get your ISP to assign you a static IP - you'll probably have to pay extra for it. 2: Don't connect to the server via IP - use dyndns.org and get your router to use it too

@nevels your wrong, i run a server on a Dynamic ip that i have configured as Static and it wont change and i also am able to assign my self as many of them numbers as i need

@cpserve1986 If your ISP has free IPs available on that same subnet then it is possible to snatch another IP, but it is not possible in all situations to change your IP address by simply changing the address of adaptor on your internal network. If you live in your data center, that's completely different. In this example, they are changing their IP address of their local network adaptor. If they are behind a router, they will need to change the router's external IP, not their PC's inet address.

Dynamic Ip Address Changes when your modem had reset or turned off and on again depending on your ISP.

Static Ip Address Does not change even when you reset/turn off your modem.

So if you have a Dynamic Ip address and want to be a static Ip address just call your ISP(Internet Service Provider) and tell them to make it static(I dont know if it works lol)

Or alternate way is to use DDNS(Dynamic Domain Name Service) If you want to host your own website using your computer and make it live.

u do know thats only making a static connection between the router and ur computer not between ur computer and the rest of the world, u would have to contact ur isp and ask for a static ip package usually cost like £5-10 extra on top of ur bill

You should find an IP to use that isn't in the router's DHCP pool. They usually list a range somwhere in the router interface for IP ranges that are assigned for dynamic configuration.

That way you can be 100% sure another device that is set up dynamically does not get the same address and render both machines unable to access anything.
