  • wonderful and the sound is superb!! :) it even picked up the birds chirping outside your window!! :)

  • A simple piece played marvelously -- I think of your rendition whenever I play this song.

  • @elChip1972

    Thank yo very much !

    Have joy in playing ;-)

    Val

  • @Luthval I do ;)

  • Mind-bending space-rock java!

    Bravo!

  • @key2kingdom

    ;-)

    Thanks

  • How are the EMS lutes? I've seen them going for about $750.00? (more in my price range LOL)

  • @LunaLakshmi I think you can find some really cheaper than 750 on internet... They are not better than their price... Not very good but you can try to play on it. For my own opinion, I will save more money to buy a "real" one. If you can't wait, try one... Sorry for the crude opinion...

  • Is it possible to learn this type of "classical" music using a mandolin? I just don't have enough money for a decent lute... And as one of my high school teachers once said, "There is no such thing as a stupid question". (LoL)

  • @LunaLakshmi

I dont know about mandolin, as you dont have six course, and on a mandolin you dont play polyphony, but single lines music, so maybe it is not the appropriate instrument. Better try on a guitar...

  • Is it possible to play this piece on a 7 course?

  • @LunaLakshmi

Yes, this tune use only 6 courses ;-)

    Regards,

    Val

  • This makes my heart cry

How many strings have the lute?

  • @alextheanonymous

This lute is an 8 course lute (so 7 double strings and the top one is single...)

    V.

  • beautiful

  • @Gravewight

    Thanks a lot ;-)

    Val

  • nice performance but packingtons pound is written by francis cutting

  • Do you think there was only ONE version... Cutting's one is different. This one is anonymous...

    Thanks anyway ;-)

    Regards

    Val

Nice that you play lute. Did yo post videos ?

    Val

  • @Luthval Eh... I haven't a recorder...

But I can organize a video with my camera! I'll try...

  • Molto Bravo!!!

  • Grazie mille ;-)

  • this is great i like playing along with you on guitar!

  • Thanks ;-)

    Val

  • There are other versions am i correct?the one im learning for classical guitar sounds quite different.

  • Great interpretation here. I've been meaning to record this piece soon - when I get a replacement strings ;).

    All the best,

    Jamie

  • As famous as Greensleeves (well for the lutenists in fact...)

    Val

  • Yes! And very similar in sound too... they could almost be a two movement piece. Packington's pound being "Galliard to Greensleaves". ;)

    Jamie

  • Wow...That was something else. Especially on lute. I like very much this song on guitar, but on lute it has another feel, maybe more medieval like! Cheers,it was really beautiful! And this was just a test to your new camera? :-)

  • Thanks

I made some videos before but this one whith new material...

I would say more renaissance like than medieval ;-)

    Regards,

    Val

  • Hi , it's me again.. I can't wait to come home and listen to your music, it's addictive, beautiful..You play very well...

    val

    val

  • Absolutely the best. Love this one. It took me awhile to learn it, but it is well worth it. Have a bad day? Five minutes playing this tune and you will forget all your worries. Cheers Luthval.

  • Yes it is a really nice piece to play ;-)

    Regards

    Val

  • I don't know about 'happy'! The song from which this tune derives was traditionally performed before public(k) executions in London!!!

  • Thanks for learning how to play that, traditional instruments must live on.

  • Thanks for listening ;-)

    val

  • sounds like greenslives

  • Yes, cousin's tunes... ;-)

    V.

  • Magnifique!!

  • Merci beaucoup ;-)

    Val

  • tonight I am very happy with your music.Yesterday my internet was bad and I suffered, could not enjoy the music long enough.

    thank you,dear Valery.

  • Hello Val, this new setup is really perfect, I can even hear the birds in your garden

    congratulations!

    regards E

    Thanks Ernst,

    Salut !

    Val

  • Wow the sound is amazing! But re-posting all your videos ... Lol you crazy man. I'm looking forward to see every single one of them again though!

    Best,

    Jolina

  • hello!Bravo! from japan.

Thank you for your lute music of Queen Elizabethe's time.I like the music of England of Old Belle Epoque.I am waiting next update.and I was surprised because sound quality was good.Did you connect 'H2' to a handycam by USB?

  • Thanks for the kind messages. For recording, I record with both handycam and Zoom H2, then on the computer I place h2 wave file in place of the handycam sound track. That's all..

    ;-)

    Val

  • Thanks!Val.

Your information is useful very much.

  • I love early music and I love listening to your posts!

  • That was very nice indeed.

  • thanks ;-)

    Val

  • Wow! A double surprise. Great sound quality. Sounds fantastic. The birds too! Love it!

And the piece, heh ... i was learning it, actually planned to play it on the uke. But i see you didn't play those ornaments which are so hard on the uke! Perhaps i can leave them away too ;) Thanks for the Music! Regards, Wilfried

  • Hi W.,

On the version I have, no ornaments, but you could play (or not) as you like. If you can hear the bird, you're listening too loud... (in fact it is some artifact I put at the end not to change your habits... lol)

    Val ;-)

  • At the end? There are birds singing all the time. And it's no artifact. At least i've never heared artifacts sing a bird's song ;)

I'm not listening too loud. Perhaps you need better speakers as well? ;)

Anyway! Your playing is wonderful, and the sound qualilty is great!

Indeed i found my version is quite a bit different. Weird. How comes there are so different versions of one song?

    Regards, Wilfried

  • Wonderful playing, as always!

The sound quality is also noticeably improved with the new equipment.

  • Yse, I'm happy with this machine...

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

    V.

  • Wow. This sounded much better than your previous videos. Reading the posts, I see you've done something different. What is it? Anyway, as often happens, I've started my work day listening to your wonderful performance. It has put me in a great mood. I like this piece so much that I've played it several times already.

  • What is different : sound recorded with a Zoom H2 portable recording machine. Nice toy... More to come...

    Val

  • Oh, Val! That new equipment really does make a difference! Congratulations!

  • Merci Beaucoup ;-)

  • really nice all!

the playing, and the sound /image quality.

  • Hello,

As I said before, I'm really satisfied with this easy to use Zoom H2, for the sound. I'll re-do all the vids again... (some work in front...)
