There are still many names of places in Kathmandu which were derived from Kirati words.Originally Newars are descendants of Kiratis. Later they got mixed up with Licchavis and the language was influenced by Maithali and Sanskrit. During Indrajatra, you can still see "Aakash Bhairav" displayed outside most of the procession places in Kathmandu. Newars call it "Aaju Dya" which means great grand father or forefather God. "Aakash Bhairav" is believed to be the incarnation of Yalamber.
@kristinafaustino I am from Kirat tribe. The caste system was created by vedic Aryan especially Brahmins. In Rig Veda book, dating 2000BCE, it is mentioned that Kiratas fought against this system but Kiratas lost the war and so this system has been in existence since.
Neolithic tools found in the Kathmandu Valley indicated that people of Tibeto-Burman ethnicity have been living in the Himalayan region for at least 9,000 years. This was released by the Department of Archaeology of Nepal, published 2003. More archaeology is being conducted and time will revealed the Kirat civilization in the Kathmandu valley. The findings of these neolithic tools can be found on "Archaeological Activities in Nepal Since 1893 AD To 2002 AD" by Prakash Darnal
folks type "Sakela~The Greatest Festival of Kirat People" and you find more about these people and their culture who are believed to have started the religion of worshiping phallus stones.
also type "Kirat Temple"
This video you will see three phallus stones which is the main deities of the Kirat. But you won't see any image of Shiva like other Hindu Shiva temple.
Type "Holy in Mongolia" and one sees the stone worshipping in Mongolia.
The relevant video of stone worshiping in Mongolia, existence of Sivaism in China and as far as Japan and comparing with that of stone worshiping by Kiratas in Nepal shows that the worshiping of stone originated from Mongol people and not Vedic Arayan.
Kiratas find refences in Veda, Purano and epics of ancient aryan text.
Here's the excerpt from "Vedic Aryan entry into Nepal".
"The "Kiratas" of Western Himalayas had hundreds of fortresses and had to fight with the Vedic Aryans. The famous war between Kirati Emperor Sambara and King Divo-dasa is described even in the Rig-Veda. After the defeat of Kiratas, the Nishadhas were the main enemies of the Aryans. Aryans must have realized this and by accepting Kiratas Supreme God Lord Shiva as their own, developed friendly ties with the Kiratas."

Here's another evident that Chandika is Kiratini.
The Sanskrit dictionary, (Monier-Williams) explains Matamgi as names of the mythical mother of elephant tribe; a Candala
or Kirata woman; name of a form of Durga, and further as one of the ten mahavidyas and as the mother of Vasistha.
Matamga means elephant, Candala (man of the lowest rank) or Kirata(mountainer, babarian), and the name of the serpent demon.

Jai Kirat.
We should continue to promote our culture. Remember Sakela, once banned by the Malla kings, was only again officially recognized in 2058(2001).
We Kiratas have a lot to do in upholding our sanskriti, culture and traditions.
Kiratas civilization is 5069 as 2009. It is the oldest in Indian-subcontinent.
Jai Kirat.
May the glorious name of Kiratas live as long as the sun.

The Kiratas in Vedic Literature.
------------------------------------------ The name Kirata is for the first time found in the Yajurveda (Sukla Yajurveda, Vajasaneya, XXX, 16;
also Krsna Yajurveda, Taittiriya Brahmana, III, 4,12,1).
"The Kirat (Sanskrit: किरात) mentioned in early Hindu texts are the tribals or Adivasi of the land.
Kiratas are believed to be of Tibeto-Burman origin. Ghatotkacha of Mahabharata fame (Son of Bhima) was a Kirata Chie
