  • G, very comment on here seems to be pretty impertinent... Anyway, I commend you for trying and for putting in the effort. Everyone else can just suck it. You're learning and that's a good thing, keep it up.

  • Honestly what is this shit? Atleast make a worthwhile parody that fits the lyrics...

  • praying to god from morning i.e from awake to sleep is superb!

but y to have idol worship?????????????

    replay 4 it

  • the video is not that good but the song mackes up for it

  • not imressive..... great song tho!!! :)

  • the video ruined this song for me. thanks

  • Try a fucking tripod.

  • calling all christains help everywhere, please help me in my quest please visit my website

  • Who gives a fuck what its about? This video sucks. Would've made Jesus kill himself anyway.

  • @g0nzi Listen if Jesus Christ didn't exsist I would kill myself and if I find out that he doesn't exsist 100% I promise you I will kill myself for there wouldn't be no point of me exsisting.

  • @ILLUSIONofLIES That's....pretty drastic, don't you think? Who cares if he existed or not?

The point is to live your life to the fullest, and have no regrets. Not to cling to something so drastically you lose sight of everything around you.

So...chill. If someone proved he didn't exist, that wouldn't be the end of the world. It'd just be the end of what you thought. The cool thing about atheists? When we're 100% proven wrong, we say, "Okay" and move on.

  • I really wish you guys could get onto MTV, and do awards.

  • This is how he percieved the song. Leave him alone.

  • This song isn't really about jesus, just about what will happen if he dies. But anyway, it was pretty good I guess

  • this isnt a song about praising jesus, its about his disbelief. honestly why should we believe that there is "god, this goes way deeper than religion.

  • This song is about his religous doubts, its not a 'Yeah Jesus!' song. Even says that his problems are worse than Jesus's problem. "These problems are gonna last more than a weekend.

  • this guy needs to learn the true meaning behind this song. its a very metaphorical song and more metaphorical then religeous

  • Don't like it. I liked the scene in the dark but not the whole part of just walking around.,

  • I don't know about the video but the song is awsome.

  • lol fail

  • awesome video man i really enjoyed it a lot one thing that i do think could use some work is just some of the filming other than that fantastic job

  • don't listen to those haters. this is a great video.

  • the camera worked sucked, but the idea of the video was cool. 4/5.

  • video would be a 0/10 for sucking. but it's something to listen to

  • douche.

  • not even note worthy, what is this amateur hour?

Just because the song is about Jesus Christ doesn't mean you can throw a ton of religious symbolism into the video and it'll be good.

From the beginning to the point where you pulled out the bible I felt like I was watching a nun. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against nuns Or bibles but couldn't even go on. Don't try to major in film or acting. Keep listening to Brand New though :)

  • it's actually about his doubts with catholicism and fear of the afterlife.

    n00b

  • Doubting Catholicism is a good start. However You're the obvious noob making the crappy video. lol

  • i didnt make the video? lol

  • might as well have if you're defending it.

you share the same pea sized brain mass apparently.

  • @radfoo72 I agree. The song isn't about a perfect Catholic. I'm Catholic and I know that in this religion, it is so hard to feel good enough for God. You try to defend your actions, but he knows. It's so hard to stay ok with yourself. I think this video and entire album is the struggle between goods and evils and this video doesn't portray that at all.

  • @thekingoflalaland Our own righteousness is but filthy rags. It's not an issue of being "good enough" for God, he wants us as we are. Performing honarably in his service on the other hand, yes that can be quite the challenge. Overall, great summarization of the album. The title kind of says it all so why people act like it needs to be decrypted or something is beyond me. Sometimes reading into things only complicates them and through various translations the original means gets lost.

  • @thekingoflalaland

ha dude if your catholic you should know that NO ONE is good enough for god, "all have fallen short of the glory of god"

  • @radfoo72 most nuns dont wear boxers :p lol good point tho

  • Nice video dude. Don't listen to the haters

  • wow thats some gay sheit. leave it to brand new cause ur video kinda sucks. good try tho...guess it gave ya somethin to do

  • The beauty of lyrics as amazing as Brand New's is that you can put your own meaning to them. It doesn't have to be the same as what the band thought when writing the song.

  • great vid, shows the songs spirit well! and its a hell of a song, to. good choice.

  • I WANT ME JESUS!! I WANT ME~

  • awesome, we take a song about the struggle of uncertainty with the afterlife and what happens next, then watch it turn it into a bloke waking up, looking at a statue of jesus and looking at his hands after touching a rusty gate, then starting a forest fire..... its all down to interpretation tho... so i cant blame a retard for trying to ruin an awesome song

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHA @ joefosh.

  • good man, the world needs a clown

  • Okay people fighting about this song?

wow shows what a life you have

    but think about it...

its really just a song and yes in the interview it does say its about a girl you guys get over the fact that your not always right

Its a personal song to the person who wrote it okay geeze you people just take this way to far

  • he said that it had to do with a girl in an interview.

  • FOR EVERYONE WHO IS FIGHTING ABOUT WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT.

It has NOTHING to do with religion or jesus christ himself.

It has to do with a girl who he compares to jesus christ.

  • yeah but brand new are that fucking awesome they can word a song that well that there is such a debate about it in the first place, im sure we can all agree on that, and jesse lacey is a LEGEND, and with the title of the album and other songs on the album going along the same storylines, it could easily be jesus or that religious figure hes cast out of his life as easily as that girl he considered his idol, i know your right dude, i got the interview, but you gotta love his interpretation :-)

  • It could go either way. But yes Jesse Lacey is a fucking legend.

  • noone will argue with that lol

  • wonderful video. keep it up! great song.

  • this video should die

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • This song is called Jesus Christ. How can people say it's not spiritual? Religion? Maybe. But Jesus isn't about religion. I just love love.

  • Youre right. Jesus as well as Christianity is about faith. And simply knowing he loves you and everyone around you no matter what is something very hard to grasp, being the world we live in today.

    :)

  • welll this videos pretty dumb i mean did you not listen to the lyrics? its doubting Christianity the whole time. Jesse doesnt believe in religion at all. theres an interview where he said he thought it was dumb and he hated it

  • @yourdreammynightmare ...care to find this interview for us?

  • Comment removed

  • It seems a bit naive to say this is all just a metaphor, because this song isn't really oblique about the matter at all--this seems like a very honest song about doubt and fear, crying out to God. So yes, it is about an inner struggle, definitely, but what is at the heart of that struggle? I feel like this song is where the hearts of Christians and non-Christians should meet: in the place where we all feel doubt sometimes.

  • every human on this planet knows why we are here, most are just too afraid to say it out loud.

  • nig. just cause u know doesnt mean everyone else does

  • Maybe it was a bit bold of me to say every human knows. I guess it takes some longer to figure out then others.

And I cant enlighten you, sorry but you have to do that for yourself.

  • i dont understand if you mean that theres one true answer that everyone knows but has to figure it out themselves or if your saying that it's different for everybody and everyone eventually finds their own.

  • Whether its about religion or not ,this fact will forever remain true ,Jesus Christ is the son of God and paid for the sin of the world that we would have a way to be redeemed through the redemtion of his blood. And this is also true one day we will all give account for our lives, to Him

  • wow that was really good. i like to look up music and find comments preaching at me.

fantastic. no offense but even if you believed the same thing i did i wouldnt give a fuck about what you have to say.

  • the 'fact' is all in your head

  • @Truth2009ful That's not a fact, it's a belief.... plain and simple. You don't know if it's true or not and it's impossible to prove so stop preaching.

  • Actually. It´s not about religion. He`s just asking himself a couple of cuestions. You can see that he´s a christian but not a practicant. It´s the kind of people that grew up in a christian family and had religious education but he still has his doubts. All men are sinners, he´s probably asking himself if he deserves heaven. Redemption?-- Also, if it was religious, he´d be teaching us a lesson about why Jesus is salvation, but he doesnt.. He´s just thinking.. Its a personal song

  • it's about depression, plain and simple, not the vid the song, religion? come on gimme a fukin break

  • I'm sorry, it's ridiculous that people try and find rigid religious definition in everything. RELAX

This song was written about inner struggle (look at the name of the album) and depicts our daily struggle to do the right thing day in and day out.

Stop getting caught up on metaphors.

  • Sure it can be taken many different ways, but that's not the point. The point is what HE meant...not what we think he means or what we want him to mean. Jesse was specifically referencing Christian concepts extensively - and due to that he created something that most clearly has a religious meaning. I could think it means whatever I want but it has no value next to the true meaning.

  • This song is oozing with religious meaning. Just about every line has a religious metaphor, analogy, or reference to a specific Christian concept.

  • I'm sure it can be taken in many different ways, thats what i liek about the lyrics sort of liek the Smiths.. i do hope it isn't about Religion though thatd be pretty lame. He could just be using it as an expression. The video is dire either way

  • it is actually about jesse wanting to kill himself, but he went to a religiou school when he was younger and he is scared that if he does god willl reject him from heaven. dumb asses. a lot of brand news songs contain religious meaning.

  • he's not sure what happens when he dies.. indeed. "We've all got wood and nails.." does that mean that he thinks there's nothing special about jesus? or just that we all have to pay for our sins.. religion is just gay.. yuckk

  • they do

  • This video is pretty gay, just you gettign drssed and walking around after preying.. it's not aboot jesus you fanny flap

  • clearly your not listening to the lyrics

  • well we will see who is right when the end comes, God may still love you but i think you are dumb publiccanimal9 and fetterman6506 and sorry your parents were to dumb to teach you to be thankful for the one who made you.

  • i really dont think this song has religious meaning

  • I agree completely, I think it's more about him accepting his failures, and those to come. I think he's just using jesus and the biblical stories as metaphors.

  • this song HAS to have a religious meaning.

"I know you think that I'm someone you can trust,

But I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back up.

So do you think that we could work out a sign

So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try."

    what else could that mean?

  • i ment question if you know him

  • if you already scared what comes after wooow then you need Jesus real bad cause i loved to know whats after there are know answers

  • is there a certain reason why interpretations of this song always start off as some guy getting out of bed? =P just asking xD

  • I was wondering the exact same thing!!

  • trying to remake the intro to the seventy times seven music video intro

  • i like it. n he has a nice body lol

  • your moms got a nicer one

  • haha thanx. betcha wouldnt think so if ya saw it :-p

  • lmao that dude has a happy HIGHWAY

  • i like youtube. i like everything is so crazy here. I like how

theology debates make their way into brandnew's video or even music videos in general. thumbs up.

  • hmmm....when did he change underwear through out the day?

  • Look at 23-24 seconds. He has turquoise boxers on (which are the same he has on at the end). Unfortunately, though, you can see my foot in the shot too through the mirror... At any rate, it was all filmed in the same day, so he does have the same underwear.

  • touche, i retract my previous comment good sir

  • you have the biggest happy trail ive ever seen.

  • This comment has nothing to do with what most people are talking about on this video but I you're the first person i've seen where you put on socks before pants.

  • I always do that...lol.

  • Why does everyone criticize each other on youtube, its really sad people just need to accept each others views. Nice vid

  • you're totallty right.

    (:

  • Good point.

  • Dude your video sucks! this song is amazing, and you made a sad attempt to cover it. All you did was look sad, carry a bible, and walk in front of a church... and by reading what you had to say on your comments i think your alot more capable of making a better video,

  • You are quite right - it is not a good video. It is poorly written, structured, edited, and, of course, the quality of the camera was horrendous. In fact, I threw it all together in one day, simply because I had nothing else to do. However, this song, when I first heard it, whether it is the intention of the band or not, reminded me of my intellectual transformation into a Christian (i.e. much pondering, reading, and, as you see, walking).I am sorry for not being able to convey my thoughts well.

  • ok. this song is about religion but its not like brand new is trying to tell you to believe what they do and i like this song, and im an atheist..

  • ha ha you're right. I wouldn't say Jesse is trying to preach or force a specific type or any type of religion on anyone. I don't know who TheRealMario46 is commenting towards, but having a conversation about a song that has religious references to Christianity doesn't constitute trying to get someone to believe the same way as you. If anything you should be pointing the finger at Jesse Lacey himself for writing a song based on the beliefs of Christianity.

  • I'm also Atheist, and I think this song is about the symbolism of the story of the ressurection.

I mean it is poetry gold.

  • i disagree, I think it is of the hardships of being a christian. like the lines:"Do you believe you're missing out,

And everything good is happening somewhere else?

But with nobody in your bed,

The night's hard to get through"

and several others.. i just cant fit them.

  • Agreed.

  • OMG. Another religious argument. Guys. Let others believe what they want to believe, and focus on YOUR OWN beliefs. If you don't give a shit about Catholic, Jeudaism, Islam, Christianity, or any other. Then why bother talking smack of something you don't believe in. Your just making yourself and the others that support it look bad. So, keep that in mind.

BTW This song is amazing. And great video bud, keep it up.

  • Pretty cool music video! I wish i had the equipment to make some videos of my own...

  • i love how all you people start a fight over religeon, this song isnt even about religion, its about being scared of whats in the after life, and im really into the whole religion thing, but i believe in god, and if you dont believe in god, go smoke some DMT and tell me after that you dont believe in god

  • This song isn't about religion? Have you read the title of the song. The study of Jesus and where we go after life is called Religion...

  • Wait... What? I'm not here to argue religion, I really couldn't care less about anone else's opinion on the subject, but this comment just didn't make sense to me. Have YOU read the title of the song?

  • I was being sarcastic. You're right on point. I'm really not arguing religion with anyone here, but the point of this song is pretty clear by it's title and subject matter. ryan"TBS" is right, how in the world is this song not about religion? I mean, you all realize that Christ is a title and not the man's name right? I mean, it's the Greek word for Messiah (which is the Hebrew word for 'Annointed One'), so... How is this not a song about religion?

  • Especially since it has specific reference to things that happen in the bible. I love the line that goes I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'm gunna nail you back up. Sends shivers up my spine. Never thought about the crucifixion of Christ that way.

  • I agree - those words do the same to me. I think, at the very least, we can all agree that this song has existentialist tones in it. Brand New are quite clearly thinking about life after death. I think people get up-tight when they hear the word religion.

  • i was a satanist until i wrecked my car after falling asleep and the cops said i should have died and that the statistics didnt add up. that i should have flipped my car off the service ramo and off to the highway but i walked away without even a scratch. thats wheni decided something wants me here.. after all the time i cursed Gods name and told him to strike me down. we all can believe what we choose and thats what i choose because i had an eye opener.

  • No it isn't. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of a Jesus. You need to go back to school!

  • what i dont understand, publicanimal9, is why do you mock something that you don't belive in? How about merely showing respect for every religion even though you do not believe in it? that's what i do. i dont fully believe in God, just a figure higher than us.

  • Because religion deserves no respect. It is illogical, irrational, dangerous and false.

If people want to waste their lives with imaginary friends in silence then fine. Let them.

But these idiots are destroying the world and this is why normal, sane people have to get involved.

They are abusing children with their brain-washing, starting wars, attacking gays, subverting medical research, raping children, stealing money....and for what? A 2,000 year old myth which has been all but disproven.

  • that's an interesting point and i agree that with religion there will be no peace. but the majority of what you have described is of the very dangerous and extreme members of any religious group. And just an interesting fact: there have been extremist who have been aetheist as well. regardless of whether there is a God or not it has to do with whether you have hate in your heart or not.

  • I disagree. Without the moderates, the extremists would not exist. If you tolerate a crazy belief system, then people will always take it to the next level.

I also disagree that extremists are hateful people. I doubt that without Islam the 9/11 bombers would have ever killed anyone, many could even be nice people, they genuinely believed they were doing the right thing. Without religion the good will be good and the bad will be bad. It takes religion to make good people do bad things.

  • what are you 13? "A 2,000 year old myth which has been all but disproven." you just said it has been everything but disproven.. that doesnt help your point lol.

And you are wrong. Historians have proven there was a Jesus of Nazareth who was born from Joesph and Mary (in records) who was sentenced to death via crucification.

Quit smoking pot and making false accusations. Don't give me no link bullshit, anyone can put anything on the internet.

  • you know all the answers huh you completley miss the concept of this song and whole album. Nobody knows the answers .

  • Comment removed

  • Atheism is just pure arrogance

  • Atheism is just pure sanity!

  • just to totally freak you out i'm an aethiest who dislikes all organised religion with a catholic boyfriend :) weird eh

  • Lol

  • Historical Fact That He Existed... Wat Fact?? The Bible?? Ok I Adore This Song Nd Im Atheist. But When I Go And See People Are Fighting On Whether Or Not He Exist Or Even Whether Or Not 2 Believe In Jesus Or God Is Just Repulsing. If U Like The Song Good But Dont Go Shoving Your Beliefs Or "Historical Facts" On Anyone. K?!?!?

  • ATHEISM: The belief that there was nothing, and nothing happend to nothing, and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason what so ever into self replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs..............Makes perfect sense

  • atheism is a lack of belief.

you contradict yourself in the first 3 words.

  • no, agnostic is not believing

  • agnostic is to be open to the existence of god without conforming to a religion.

its like saying there could be a god but i dont think i, or any religion, knows who it is or what they are all about.

  • Usually those that don't believe in a God believe in the science of creation. I personally believe there is something above us all, I'm not into there only being 'one' god, but there being gods that help each one of us through life. If you're trying to make a point don't let emotions overrun the point you're trying to get across, it makes you sound unintelligent

  • Christianity: The belief that a jewish man arrived on a flat earth as the result of a rib-man listening to a talking snake then not having sex, dying and then floating off into the sky whre he now listens to millions of people murmering to him at the same time! You people are ridiculous! lol

  • please clarify:

    1. flat earth? nowhere does the bible claim that the earth is flat. your ignorance of this fact negates any other argument that you can put forth

    2. rib-man? eve was created of a rib; not adam, the 'rib-man'.

i'm not giving or denying christianity any credit with this argument, but you're simply a dipshit

  • 'eve was created of a rib'

I'm not even going to argue with someone so deluded as to much such a ridiculous statement.

You need to explain your views to a doctor.

  • Try symbolism. In fact, Brand New does it all the time.

  • @publicanimal9 hahaha reallyyyy? you are one silly hateful person...not to mention dumb i love youtubeee

  • And you are a hypocrite! There a few idiologies more 'hateful' than Christianity.

I would rather be silly than a nazi like you! lol

  • i love the song but dont understand the point, lyrics and meaning to the song? please help me.

  • whyd you get 4 thumbs down?

  • yeah ellliot, why do you have 4 down? jackass.

  • lmao what a douchebag.

  • whyd i get one down? hahaha

  • i'm an atheist but i adore this beautiful song

  • ...Well I don't think you have to have a religion to believe that Jesus existed...or even to write a song about it.

Or in your case, enjoy a song....

  • self-centred o wat????

  • was this filmed in stop motion or is the camera just that bad

  • sorry dude, its a decent video but it isnt all that original compared to all the other home made music vids on teh youtubez

  • i agree with mauricio. you know its a great song if its religious and an atheist can enjoy it.

you should also check out "dream"- by GS Megaphone.

its christian and ironically my 3rd favorite song in the world :)

  • i really enjoy this video you remind me alot of myself....wondering the woods going into abandon places..thinking of god....pondering life ...glimsping at the bible pondering my faith in christ..getting in and out of bed spiritually almost as if i look out the window.....u remind me alot of myself....awesome video and christ being the way I hope we both find him fully..godbless

    sean patterson

  • do u beleive in santa clause too?

  • Did you film part of this at Gettysburg?

The part at the tower with the books really reminded me of Big Roundtop.

  • if an atheist can happily listen to this, it must mean something

    :) 5/5

  • and, if there was a heaven, this guy would be allowed right in.

  • your athiest, wow, i know alot of athiest hate church and stuff but they should just try it, it gives you hope and peace.

  • not a lot of Atheist hate church, that's wrong

and no, i can have my own peace, without the need of religion

  • Atheist don't hate church, they just don't believe in its ideas.

Not believing is very different from hate.

And no, one does not necessarily need to have God in their lives to give themselves peace and hope. He can help, but it's not mandatory.

  • It's not that they don't believe in its ideas, it's that they don't believe in ANY ideas at all. It's the belief that beliefs are wrong....(which makes no sense...)

  • no offence but ur kinda a douche.

  • well its hard not to have some sort of bad feelings about church. Church has become an institution that discriminates against homosexuals, turns a blind eye to sexual abuse, and everything has begun to revolve around money. I do believe in god, but I think he would be disgusted at what has become of the church system.

  • this song makes me cry...lol its not a sad song

  • thats one lonely person..

  • whats with people being in bed at the begining of this fu*king song?

  • weirdest happy trail ever :|
