Neve liked him after he changed his face and body. I saw him in 1954 in Orlando FL...he was in the group. I really went to see Martha Carson...Amazing energy!!!

Marty had to be very careful of his diet in his later years as he had cholesterol problems, which caused numerous heart attacks and surgeries. He looked great, sounded great, and was built just fine for a man who had health issues. If you judged his quality upon superficial looks, then you could not have met the man, nor truly appreciated his talent.

Well the change you might be referring too was done in 1970. In 1970 he was in a horrible racing accident and he was injured pretty bad. He had to have 100 stitches in his face alone. He had a laceration from the top of his forehead down to the end of his nose. This is why you see the change in his his face mainly from the reconstruction. Pre1970 he had kind of rounder and fuller nose and post1970 he got a slimmer nose. Most contribute the different look just to the changing style of the time

This performance sounds as if it may have been after one of his heart attacks. Marty was so dedicated to his fans! He risked his health to keep tour dates so as not to disappoint them. After a concert when we'd go back to wait by the bus for a glimpse he'd stop and visit, though he had to be exhausted after performing! A fine man, all around.

Very possible this was after one of his heart attacks. In 1981 he had a minor heart attack. It was the first one since his triple bypass in 1970. I agree he sounds a little out of it in this performance. Not himself I think. Hard to believe we lost him just a year later on December 8, 1982. He is missed so much by so many.
