  • This is brilliantly edited. A great tribute to a timeless beauty and spirit. Very well done. xx

  • she was just so cute

  • I for one think this is brilliant!

  • This is absolutely brilliant!

  • I enjoyed your wonderful video!

    ------Ellen

  • Forget about hot. I can't get over how talented she is at acting with just her eyes! Holy bejesus.

  • eeewww!

  • I've watched this many times. Louise is forever. This works the best. Thanks!

  • she was just simply beautiful

  • Are you in the Louise Brooks society?

  • This is the perfect song for Lulu...God bless whoever posted this.

  • Thank you for all the highly enjoyable comments on the vid, so far. I had to laugh at some of them claiming the song 'cheapens' the visuals... as if murder and tawdry sex were the height of sophistication... ;-)

  • @AdArmand This is the best tribute to Pandora's Box!

  • @AdArmand Nice vid 'cause i LOVE HER so much, got original picture of her in my bedroom. She's simply forever. She is the eternal icon silent movie and for me she was the best silent movie actress ever. Let us dream again and again, Louise.

  • @AdArmand

    The song's perfect.

  • I can understand why people think the music doesn't go well with the video since it's not what one might expect. In my opinion though,a modern song can go very well with old images like these. It's not like people in the 20's or 30's didn't have passions just because the popular music was mostly sweet jazzy or funny peppy tunes.

  • So that's what Anne Veronica Moore looks like..

  • If only I was a lesbian with a time machine...

  • nice video and really nice interesting movie, music is annoying & cheap and doesn't´t fit at all to this calm classic motion picture....thanks google for the mute button....

  • the song cheapens it. thank god for the mute button.

  • The song and movie are both perfect. Who cares about the haters.

  • In high school in the late 80's I was reading a film magazine and accidently came across an article about her with one photo, has been hooked on her ever since! After reading Barry Paris biography on her I got even more addicted.

If any of you are discovering LB for the first time and want to know more about her the way I did I highly recommend his book! It's a must for LB fans of any degree!

  • If ever there was an iconic image that summed up the 1920's Louise Brooks was that image.

  • I just watched, "Pandora's Box". Great film!

  • mute

  • I very highly recommend finding Kenneth tynan's interview with Ms. Brooks. It's been in several collections and may well be online somewhere. He had always loved her and was going to write one of those "whatever happened to" articles when he found out the not only was she still alive, but if memory serves, was in NY where he lived! The resulting interview put her back on the map, after years as a recluse. It's fantastic, as she was.

  • Where on earth did AdArmand find such clear prints of all these?!? I can't even look at other montages any more - they look like smokey shadows compared to this. My jaw just dropped at looking at this. Not sure if the song works, but it does if it's turned down. You can see the lyrics matching the clips (it's kinda over the top, but then so were her characters, mostly!).

  • 'Pandora's Box' is one of the best Silents.

    You tribute is wonderful! Thanks.

(mute the video if you don't like the music, it's just as great!)

  • I never would have known about Louise if it had not been for this song.

My first impression is that she could not have been from the past; this was a recent video and she must be a contemporary, but then I realized it was her genius, her face that made her ahead of her time. I wish i could have met her.

  • My great interest in Louise Brooks all started with your amazing video.THANK YOU for the inspiration.

  • Louise is gorgeous, music is so appropriate, wow!

  • i never did watch this movie

  • Louise Brooks deserves better then the Killers; that being said it has a really funny The Hills quality which is embarassing.

  • @plunkyYum - move along, hipster. Move along.

  • last second and a half of this video is magic. incredible ending!

  • The amazing irony of this song choice is that the person who defined the life choices of Louise Brooks was a man who raped her as a young girl. His name?

    Mr Flowers.

  • The Killers music emphasizes how modern Louise Brooks is now as she was then... and incredibly hot!! :-)

  • I love all that is Lulu and the 20's. It is a pleasure to read these comments as I am middle-aged and appalled by the spelling and construction of what I typically read on YOUTUBE.

  • i dont get why some people complained about the song for this, just because its mainstream doesnt always mean its no good..I think this song fits perfectly with her character in this film.

  • The look on her face at about 1.01... :-)

  • unfitting music is unfitting

  • Comment removed

  • Brooksie was also a magnificent advocate for some of her contemporaries - she spoke highly of Garbo and Clara Bow to name a few. Great taste, our Brooksie had!

  • You hipster morons aren't happy with anything. The song is perfect. Because it was a popular hit, it somehow bastardises the film in your tiny little minds.

  • I've a couple different versions of "The Killers" video of this song, but AdArmand, to mix Pandora's Box and this song is great. You did a really good job and it goes great together. This IS the Video for Mr. Brightside. Genius!

  • Brilliant!

  • Good video but I had to mute the awful music...

  • I love The Killers AND Louise Brooks so this remix art is perfect for my tastes (and brilliantly done). Thanks!

Found via the Ebert Club Newsletter (gratefully).

  • Wow, you people are really hating on the music. Normally I wouldn't like it either, but for this video, it's perfect. Lulu is fresh and modern, as is the song. Not to mention the lyrics have some striking parallels to the film.

  • This is great! The song fits the story perfectly! Have you ever considering making another video w/ this song but focusing on the Lulu/Geschwitz lesbian subplot? lol

  • I disagree Gwenshin. I think the music is perfect...look up the lyrics...So Lulu...so Louise.

  • Great video, but this song (which is ok on it's own) does not go with the video! It's like pouring hot fudge on a steak, ruining both.

  • cool film. shitty music - why ruin the visuals with this garbage..???

  • amo Louise!

  • Wow! Gives these scenes a whole new energy! great job! Lulu forever! :-)

  • Good work ! "Pandora's Box" is one of the great silent films. The performance by Louise Brooks is still great (sometimes the performances in silent films now look dated).

  • If you guys stop bitching and complaining and pissing and moaning and just listen to the song for more then ten seconds, you'll realize the song suits the montage and the movie just fine. Don't write off a video just because the music isn't to your personal preference.

  • @Inkyluca sorry but I cant even understand the words. So, for me its ALFUL. And yes, I did TRY to listen. I love Louise Brocks and I just cant see this music with her.

  • wow she is so beautiful.

  • ¡nice!..

  • femme fatale der goldenen 20er... ich liebe sie :)

  • Beautifully done, thank you!

  • Why on Earth did you think the music suits the images. Shame. Love the montage. Get music that works.

  • great!!! I LOVE IT

  • SWEET music and eye candy SO DELICIOUS!

    Louise Brooks is so HOTTTT!

    The eyes.....smile.....lips...hair........!

Sirens of The Roaring 20's ; Louise Brooks

  • You are a Friggin Genius !!! between the killers song and your video editing you absolutely captured both the pain and the beauty of this womans life. I hope that you continue to create in this world. God is with you !!!

  • nice juxtaposition. she's so beautiful.

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO!! i love silents! mr. brightside goes gr8 with this!! thanks 4 upload!!

  • I love this - great images and the music is perfect!

  • I love how you mixed this contemp song with this classical movie!!!

    5 stars!!!

  • Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu! Long live Lulu!

  • Love this. Please Sirens of The Roaring 20's Louise Brooks piece. Tells her story, her lovers and includes clips too! Long live Lulu!

  • very well done...Pandora's Box is a Classic movie w/a Classy woman... you did a great job here.

  • Louise RULES!

Please see "Louise Brooks - Sirens of The Roaring 20's" for her NY and LA career, lovers, film clips, and what happened to her after 1930...

  • bright- side

  • i think the music is perfect. a modern twist.

  • agreed on the music. Turned it OFF immediately. It makes no sense whatsoever for this film.

  • She is one of the all time greats for sure. An incredible talent.

The music is just a rip off of Bowie's "Queen Bitch".

  • Great clip but the added music ruins it.

  • It will always stay one of the best silent movies ever made!

  • @zoltepp09 This video is more proof why it should stay a silent movie.

  • @s0nnyburnett haha, you have an OMD video among your favourites, I remember OMD abused "Pandora's Box" many years ago for a video, too

  • What a great job!!!

  • Oh yeah... Why dose he kill her in the end?... Maybe I should check out the film...

  • It was Jack the Ripper

  • Jack the Ripper huh...? That's a scary name lol

  • gorgeous

louise brooks was ahead of her time

  • My daddy has pictures of Louise Brooks around the house! And my older sister is named after her :)! Gotta love the killers. I think I'd like to learn more about Louise Brooks

  • Barry Paris wrote a compelling biography - you should check that out.

  • Thanks! I think I will

  • @AdArmand Thanks for the tip...I've always liked her and that great hairdo! I will read the book!

  • SImply wonderful

  • This is fantastic!!

  • Loved it. Great job!

    ------Ellen

  • Great video!

Her dance at 1:32 is so cute. :)

  • special

    great track fabulous actor

  • Louise Brooks is my new favourite film star. I can't believe I lived this long without seeing her! Great video, this.

  • really really loved it

    tks

  • Incredible job. Great video! Thanks for posting!!

  • From some angles she looks like Isabella Rossalini.

  • In the movie "Death Becomes Her", Isabella wears the same haircut Louise used to have, to point out the likeness between the two. They look quite similar, actually: and both of them stunningly beautiful!

I love that video! Great choice of music, in my opinion.

  • She was some actress

  • Comment removed

  • Louise looks a lot like this girl I really like...<33

  • This is perfect .

  • This is great! I mean I know the movie was so dramatic but the song (by the Killers) and this clip go hand in hand...good job!

  • *love

  • I lvoe the music, it fits so well with the video, I love LuLu, she's perfect!

  • 1:00 the best part. I agree, this music video needs better music, who cares bout the views

  • And yes, please lose the HORRIBLE music!

  • If it didn't have this music, it wouldn't have the views. Think about it.

  • It would have more views with better music though.

  • @AdArmand It would from me. She was beautiful!

  • @AdArmand i would have viewed it with or without this music, and the music wasn't part of my search term

  • @AdArmand What does the number of views matter if the integrity of the video is compromised with shitty music?

  • @heavyboxes - thousands more who may not been aware of Brooks, Pabst or this era in film will be exposed to it. You and your pretentious kind need to make room for the uninitiated.

  • @AdArmand The music is wonderful....thank you

  • @doetim 100% agree with you.

  • It's amazing that these clips of Louise are only 2 decades away from being a century old but she looks astoundingly modern and contemporary. It's not just her appearance that makes her look modern, she was fiercely independent, liberal and free-spirited for her time and you can see those qualities manifest in the way she carried herself.

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been a fan of Louise Brooks for years. She easily could have been a big star of the silent films, but she didn't care about that.

  • gosh I'm a girl and I think I'm in love <333

    she's so gorgeous!

  • oh my gosh, she's so pretty! dazzling.

  • Thanks for adding the sh8tty music.

  • doncha know it!

  • Kudos for making this. Louise Brooks was very stunning- and still is. She's one of the few people I admire in the acting world. It's very hard to find someone now a days who stay completely real to themselves and never have anyone change them.

  • beautiful

  • louise is a legend. absolutely gorgeous and a great actress, so much more beautiful and talented than most of todays actresses

  • her face dominates with absolute command on any piece of film

  • Comment removed

  • A very simplistic view, dogcurtains--

She definitely was damaged--and self-destructive. Ultimately, she never hurt anyone more than herself.

She was also highly intelligent and artistically gifted, so a good director (like Pabst)would know how to use what she had to offer--that amazing energy and presence were definitely hers. Sadly, it was the American mentality that damaged her (starting from childhood) and she couldn't accept Europe where she probably ultimately belonged.

  • The way the movie looks is pleasing to the eye... it's soft. And of course, Louise Brooks is quite a looker.

  • Lu Lu was so beautiful and thoroughly modern!! Way ahead of her time...I've always wanted my hair in a Louise Brooks bob, but my face is too round...

  • Ah, What happened to our definition of beauty ?

Now its blonde , big chest , mediocre face.

  • @bloodtears1821 it's actually plastic surgery, thin with unnatural curves added and slutty

  • I love this movie! Seeing this makes me want to watch it again :D

  • Louise Brooks was a goddess!

  • i like how this song goes with Louise Brooks

  • Aah, Louise was such a trendsetter! And so beautiful! :D

It's too bad though that Francis Lederer didn't become more famous.....he was amazing in this movie--he had tons of talent. Not to mention he was utterly gorgeous. 'Tis a shame. T.T

    Awesome video though. *subscribes*

  • Very well done vid!

A remarkable woman, a remarkable song and for once I actually read all the comments written - those who appreciate this woman, who truly lived a life, obviously know their subject. This is one I'll come back to and for that and the reminders, I'm genuinely gratefull.

  • mimi.

    I'm with you!

I saw Louise's films on BBC2 back in 85 (when she died). They used Beethovens' 5th I think. I was so moved by it I'll never forget it. (ok- I'd been to the pub)

    What a girl.

My own first daughter is called Louise.

I just wish I could get the soundtrack that the BBC used. It would make you weep.

I've got vids of Pandora and Tagebuch. I think Tagebuch aka 'Diary of a lost girl' is only seen in the last 'candle' (and tart) of this film. Wonderful.

  • when i was a little girl i became obsessed with louise brooks (still am!). i was convinced that i was her reincarnation.lol!... though i was born in 1979, & she didn't pass away until 1985! ... but still. if i could close my yes real tight & wish to be anyone ever. it would most certainly be her!!

  • Mark Twain once said "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Those who think that people responding negatively to an artists work are being rude obviously have no idea of what it means to be an artist.

An artist who thinks that people responding negatively to his or her work are being rude needs to go home and cry to Mommy about it. The only art that doesn't get criticized is the art that isn't shown to anyone.

  • I have watched this video several times...i love the Killers (saw them in Cardif this week) and love louise brooks - this is a really excellent merger of the two ... love it...

  • Quite Brilliant Compilation!

    Thanks.

  • One of the most beautiful women to be photographed. Ooooohh, and that hairstyle.

    d

  • This is incredible. Gosh, she looks beautiful. Love the video.

  • this is superb. i agree with girlsinacoma, i love the killers and louise brooks, especially in Pandora's Box. This was beautifully done, i watch it far too often.

  • hehe there are very few people who have watched pandora's box and like the killers and know how to use youtube. well done. Don't listen to the haters, keep it up.

  • It is so nice to see a good print of this film because you realize Louise Brooks steps out of her time, and looks very 60's for a second, and also very now. The music fits because it reflects the exuberance and pace of a girl reacting against those around her trying to make her something she's not. I think we are going through a very exciting period in music, and I am so glad younger generations can appreciate the youth of another era and see these films as works of art, open to interpretation.

  • harrietcraig, your comment is right on. Louise Brooks seems so utterly timeless, and contemporary music can and often does work with vintage film. It's nice to know that not all people are dead set against putting older films to a more modern musical backdrop. Your comment is very insightful. Thanks for sharing it!

  • You are pretentious.

I didn't make the video for you, or for anyone who won't open their imagination to the fact that a wider (or to you, less sophisticated) audience can appreciate this work of art from Weimer Germany.

I'm proud of this video for the sole reason that it has introduced this period, this film and this glorious woman to at least one "young person".

My own music taste is not on issue here, I merely tried to capture the perspective of the men.

  • As someone once said, "You hit the bricks and you take your chances." You posted your video in a public place, and accepted comments. That was my comment. And, to get more specific, you did indeed make the video for me. It is on a website which I can access for free. Comments such as mine occur when an artist displays his work to a wider audience. If you want to surround yourself with people who admire every frame of film and every note of music, show your video in your home by invitation.

  • You are so quick to patronize "young people", in taste and maturity. The hands that edited this little video together were not working to satisfy your elitist snobbery. That is what I mean by stating that this video was not made for your pleasure.

So what if someone enjoys the Killers, god forbid?! Who are you to put them down?

    P.S. - I understand your point, however.

  • As a "young person" who enjoys both older and newer music (as well as film), I find your comments toward people of my age group somewhat ignorant. I think modern music can work with vintage film, as well as can vintage music. While you do have the right to give your opinion here, nobody forced you to watch this. AdArmand put a lot of work into this video, and your insulting comments is downright rude and disrespectful. I for one think this song fits perfectly.

  • Darn whipper-snappers and their crazy soundin' music. A body can't find no peace these days 'cept in the classics.

    Lul.

  • That was meant in response to the stereotypical argument that FrankiesMom vomited forth onto this video.

Next she will be pissed youngins' get their ears pierced these days or "some other such fool nonsense".

    LuL again.

  • She is beautiful and this song is great for this video.

  • Read the artist's response to my comments. He ably explained his choices and his opinion of my post. Then he graciously conceded a point to me. And he did it all without getting too personal, or stooping to your golly-gosh defense: "AdArmand put a lot of work into this."

In turn, I conceded the last word to him on his own website.

Artists don't need to be defended like hero-worshipped big brothers. If I were this artist, I'd be more concerned about your approval than my disapproval.

  • "Get outta muh yard whipper-snapper!"

Yeah that was all I really heard in what you said.

  • This is what you tube is here to do.

    Wonderful!

Must look out my old vids of Pandoras box and 'Tagebuch'.

    Thanks

  • Beautifully done!

  • I agree!!!!!

  • "Mr Brightside"; The Killers

  • whats the name of this song

  • Elle était magnifique!

  • absolutely wonderful woman!

  • You know, there's something very modern about Louise Brooks, and this film, which is probably another reason why this song fits so well! I think the character of Velma Kelly in "Chicago" (the film version, anyway) was patterned after Louise Brooks. Wonderful job on this vid, I've watched it countless times! Now I'll have to get "Pandora's Box" on DVD!

  • The Pandora's Box Criterion DVD is outstanding and it belongs on any

    film lovers shelf.

  • AMAZING JOB !!!

  • Wonderful composition!

  • Still the most vivacious single performance in cinema history. The screen and the period simply can't contain her.

  • Thanks a million for making this brilliant video, I'm doing an essay on Pandora's Box and it really helped. "Mr Brightside" works beautifully with it. Check out Schigolch playing the harmonica at 1:25, lol.

  • ooops, I ment 2:49
