  • I love the music on the background!

  • What if I have glutinous rice flour? Can I use that? do I have to soak it on water too? :)

  • @TheYealo Check out the written recipe on my website please. All info you are looking for is posted. For this rice cake, you need short-grain rice flour.

  • @Maangchi thank you! :)

  • i can´t find any pine needles and no trees around here... can I leave them out???

  • @NewClassicPYT yes, without pine needles, the rice cake will still be delicious! : )

  • 송편이 너무 맛있어보이네요.

  • That was wicked cool. Steaming with pine needles! I want to try songpyeon, it looks delicious ><

  • If I can't find frozen rice flour, then can I just freeze a bag of rice flour?

  • this looks very good 5 stars!

  • Why do you have to use frozen rice flour? Can't use normal rice flour?

  • @CraftyKoo You have to use rice flour which is soaked overnight and ground finely. Normal rice flour (dried)won't be cooked properly even though you steam it for hours and hours. The package of frozen rice flour sold at a Korean grocery store in North America is pre-soaked and ground. The rice flour is wet, so it has to be kept in the freezer. Otherwise it will go bad easily. So if you want, make your own wet rice flour!

  • @Maangchi Oh.. I think I'll just stick to the frozen rice flour! Hehe. Thanks for explaining for me :)

  • I wish we have pine needles. I want to make it, but unfortunately, I live in the Philippines, and there are no pine trees here. We have pine trees in Baguio City. I cannot afford to go there just to get pine needles, but I wanted to cook songpyeon for Chuseok next year.

  • ok people I need help I live in West Virginia and there is no way I can get that rice flour. I use to live in Atlanta so I know you can get it at H mart and korean supermarket. Unfortunately WV doesn't have anything like that. I have purchased Organic White Rice Flour by Arrowhead Mills. I tried making it and it doesn't work for anything. Any suggestions anyone? (I just don't know how much water to put in to make the dough)

  • korean moms and ahjumahs have a weird, useful sense of picking random ingredients out from the outside world. my family is Korean, and I remember one time (actually, a number of times), my mom made my dad pull over in the middle of the highway to pick up some plants to put into our dinner that night.

  • Jina's hair looks like my mom's. She just got it cut, but she thinks that it makes her look like an ajima.

Thank you for making this video. I have always wanted to know more about my culture's food and this is one recipe I need to try out. Thank you!

  • @thiamere you're rude....

  • wat is the music in the background for this video? it sounds very elegant! =)

  • @pangGo Thanks! It's 'Festival 1' by Kim Soo Chul

  • Maangchi, do you have to use the frozen rice flour? Or can i substitute regular rice flour? Thanks!

  • @bubblegirl905 You have to use rice flour which is soaked overnight and ground finely.

  • @Maangchi wat do you meant by soaking it overnight? Is it placing the flour into a bowl of water or put the flour in a plastic bag and soak the plastic bag in the water?

  • oh, right! I meant " You have to use rice flour made with short-grain rice which is soaked overnight and ground finely."

  • @AprilFool369 You must soak the glutinous rice (short grain aka "sticky rice) overnight in cool water, and then grind it finely into a fine powder the next day.

  • Haha Maangchi you're the best!! Really Hilarious :) Love the Pine Needles part

"Soon all the pine needles in Central Park are gone! I might get arrested!"

  • yellow hanbok beautiful!

  • Oh you guys are such cute friends and the recipe looked amazing!

  • Amazing food!!! Congratulation girls!!!

  • u look pretty =D ....

  • Where do you shop for these items in nyc?

  • how do you make the kind with the juicy sesame filling?

  • @basboosa911 check the recipe on my website, please.

  • @Maangchi Sorry, but all I could find was the sesame powder. The one I like is the kind with some liquid in it...

  • @basboosa911

My recipe on my website says, "..ground sesame powder into a small bowl and mix it with ¼ cup of brown sugar and a pinch of salt."

The mixture is made with sesame seeds powder and sugar. When the rice cake is steamed, the sugar will be liquefied.

Good luck with making delicious songpyeon!
