That was him. They had to agree not to draw his character to his likeness. He also did an interview with Mary Jo Sales of New York Magazine who says that he lives a normal life in New York. CNN did a story on him and he told CNN, "my belief is that recluse is a code word generated by journalists ... meaning, 'doesn't like to talk to reporters.'" They also agreed not to show him specifically but they did videotape him in a crowd scene in which viewers wouldn't know who he was.
Well, I know that. Obviously his voice sounds weirdly german in this video, but I wondered if perhaps he bizarrely just speaks like that. I suppose you are suggesting this is a fake. The comment, "if you move that camera to my face I will be sure to stop!" sounds particularly contrived and awkward for an American to say, so I am beginning to believe this is a hoax.
I AM SURE TO STOP

TP was born in Glen Cove, New York 3 miles from where I was born, Oct 1937. If he has a German accent I am Martian.

"But if you go on and film my face I'm sure to stop!" Lmao.

No, that is not him. Pynchon grew up on Long Island and sounds like it. Watch the Simpsons clips; those are confirmed to really be him.
Anybody who thinks this is Pynchon is an idiot.

@brianeisley anyone who can not appreciate satire or comedy likely can not read pynchon. lighten up.

Pynchon hides his face, not his voice. . .as he has "appeared" in an episode of "The Simpsons."
