  • You are definitely entitled to your opinion. However, insults are not really yogic. Ever heard of Ahimsa? Why such dogma?

I have been practicing the 5 Tibetans for over 15 years and, some days, the movements and the breath are really slow, on others, it is much faster according to the energy and the needs of the moment.

BTW, I do find the story of Col Bradford rather bizare and Kelder's approach quite dogmatic!

I took my inspiration from Christopher Kilham's book that is more factual.

  • ...not only this vid of 5Tibetan does not help, the way you are doing it in this video may be harmful to your body.

    1. you are doing it way too fast - you should be tranquil and put emphasis on breathing while doing the rites

    2. you do not explain the breathing technique

    3. also you do not move the correct way

With all due respect It seems to me quite disgusting trying to make profit out of selling this via DVD to "not so well informed" public.

  • For us, the ordinary, 2~3 cycles a minute may be appropriate target in relaxed posture as 1 year achievement, 3~4 cycles while 5 rites movements.

  • So, I am glad to see a lot talks on Breathing on this page.

The movements, motions in 5 rites are to help and promote "hypogastric breathing"

The 5 rites are one of the "hypogastric breathing" practice throughout in Orient.

The slower, deep, continuous, uniform breathing, more and more slower, eventually unconsciousness of breathing. That's the concept of the breathing, and originally to remove the obstacle(breathing) to meditation.

  • I 'mso worry about all know the 5 rites as streching, muscle excercise like that...

I found few rightly teaching on youtub. Being rejuvenated by such a simple practice of 5 streching movements? How could you have such a thought that such simple secret should rejuvenate you?

No! Never! But, yes a little help.

Colonel Bradford didn't have any knowledge on deep breathing.

To understand 5 rites, You have to understand on the "hypogastric breathing" practice throughout in Orient.

  • this story is from the book and all re this tibetans is a crap!

  • This is the best video, as no one in Tibet (That I have meet, Yet) has ever heard of "the five Tibetan rites" or the book ("The secret fountain of youth" its American) they can be done however suits you & your breathing. If you read the book these are the closest . PS Its a fantastic book....Have done the rites for 6 years cant live with out them, I do at this speed...invigorating or meditative just enjoy..

  • does anyone else get a real euphoric, "flushed" feeling when doing these??

i notice that my face tingles, mr cheeks go rosy, a vein (or something) just under my jaw seems to make my whole face flush and when i look in the mirror i look really rejuvinated?

  • you shouldn't do more than 21 times each exercise per day... its contraproductive for the body, i read it many times... i also saw it always very slow, but i might supose that it becomes faster and faster as soon as you get more use to it, you just soudn't forget the breathing...

  • The Fountain of Youth (FOY) movements or Five Tibetans are a lot like many energy movements. However, the FOY or Five Tibetans are different and specific. Order the book Fountain of Youth by Peter Kelder. The movements are to be done slowly and breath between each movement. This is very important! Some have changed Five Tibetan movements on the Internet - Free - Correct instructions and movements. Can't enter the link so Search: lifeevents 5-tibetans-energy-rejuvenation - The Prosperity Doctor

  • In the original book by Peter Kelder, it says do them slowly, do each one three times for the first week, adding two repetitions the following week, and two each following week until you reach 21.

  • This exercise has a lot in common with Sun Salutation from Vedic yoga.

  • gut

  • Very powerful exercises no doubt about it; they are a great tool for anyone who wants to improve their life. However, the most amazing form of meditation I have ever known is Standing Meditation which is the foundation of Qi Gong. The chi flow is absolutely incredible and after a few weeks you experience a level of energy, calm and relaxation that you wouldn't think possible. Standind meditation is exactly what the name implies, one meditates while standing!!

  • Interesting. I was under the impression that they were meant to be timed with the breath. I didn't realize they were done this fast. Are you holding your breath while performing them??

  • @DanLetts97 ,

The breath is indeed coordinated with the movements.

The Five Tibetans are about energy (prana) and, in yoga, the breath is associated with prana.

A prerequisite to breathing while doing the exercices fast, is mastery of the breath.

This is achieved by practicing various breath control exercises (pranayama) so that the breath can flow freely.

That practice would include 3-part breath (Dirgha), Skull cleansing breath (Kapalabhati) and, eventually, Bellows breath (Bhastika).

  • @plaintruth17

    Why be so adamant ?

No one HAS to buy this DVD or any of the books about the 5 Tibetans.

The DVD is offered as a teaching aid to help people build up their practice and modify the exercices as required so that they can perform them in a safe way.

May there be peace in your mind, peace in your heart, peace in your world and peace in THE wolrd.

  • @plaintruth17

I guess the world can never accept any truth Peopl are ready to spend tonnes of money to buy GMO products, get swayed by advts run by greedy MNC companies at the cost of their own health( ignorantly of course). But give them something plain and truthful they will show their revolting nature. Satan has truly conquered the world!!!

  • Thank you so much for answering so fast! I just started few days ago, looking forward to good result! :-D

  • Is this the speed these movements should be done? I have been doing waaaay slower lol.

  • @Kentomi3

The external movements do not HAVE to be slow (or fast).

However, your mind needs to be in a meditative state (satvic).

Some days, the inner energy is very fast (rajasic) and you can choose to match it with fast exercises (and possibly blow off any excess febrility) or to slow it down voluntarily with slower exercises.

Other days, it is very slow (tamasic) and, again you can choose to speed it up by doing the exercises fast or match it and do them slowly.

    Experiment !

  • I have a lot of trouble doing the crab lifts. Overall, all of the exercises look much easier than they actually are. I have to admit that I feel proud of myself after I complete them (the little that I'm able to do). I intend to keep trying to improve on them.

  • @millions2nette,

The trick with the Crab lifts is to change your mind set (and trick your mind).

Instead of thinking about lifting your buttocks off the ground and pressing your hips to the sky, focus on sliding your buttocks forward and pressing your knees as far forward as you can while pressing the hands into the ground.

    Flyogi

  • Simple but powerful

  • he does them completely wrong!

you have to do it with the breathing speed(normal breathing)

  • @No3225

You are absolutely right. Doing the rites fast is wrong. Do them slowly as the original book (Eye of revelation) recommends. Slowly. When you do them slowly, you benefit more with zero chance of pullin muscles. After 1 month, I lost 3kg. Energy very high. Mental focus is better. Working towards a six-pack. I think its having an effect slowly but surely.........

  • I am going to give this a try.

  • Hi, i suffer from hiatal hernia. D u think the last exercise can be harmful 2 me? I do it but not until the very end of the second phase. Txs for ur advice.

  • é uma forma meio rápida , penso na respiração mais pausada.

  • Great!!!!!!! thank you for sharing the movements in their true traditional form, and great personal sharing.

I learned these back in 1999.

  • It works ...

just do them without thinking what is right and what is wrong just do them and see the results soon. clear thinking abundance of energy etc ...

  • i heard this improves your sex life is it true?

  • @juswolf22 it's not about sex,it's about healthy

  • Without the speedos the exercises are totally useless. LOL

  • @thefree2000 lmfao

  • hahahahahahaha =]

  • Do you have to wear a Speedo in order for the exercises to work correctly?

  • what these movment can do for u health is mindblowing. but u need to stick to it at least 10 weeks. u ll not regret

  • I am glad to have your comment, as I have been doing them for four weeks now and cannot see any difference yet...

  • Thats not morning exercises. You must breethe. People, watching this, will do them with the same mystakes.

  • It's wrong. You're doing too fast!

  • @paulozullu you're have to do each position 21 time !!

  • @paulozullu you're have to do each position 21 time !!

  • Are these stretches?

  • If you were doing these correctly (slowly, with no momentum) you wouldn't have that gut.

  • JC,

I don't know how old you are but, eventually, you will hit the "battle of the bulge". At 59, when this was shot, I figure that I was doing pretty well.

  • @Flyogi I am 36, keep may caloric intake low (under 2500/day) and work out rigorously 3-4 times per week, and I have a bigger gut than this man.

I'm definitely going to try these exercises if for no reason than to mitigate an aching lower back.

  • @JCjazz A rather rude comment to the OP.

  • Why are they doing them so quickly? This is not a physical exercise of the physical body and they are supposed to be done slowly and meditatively!

  • I totally agree with the "meditatively" part: meaning staying in tune with your inner process of energy flowing as breath moves in and out and muscles contract and relax.

However, "meditatively" does not always mean "slowly". Depending on your current needs and energy level, these exercises can be done very slowly or very fast but always with conscious awareness.

When this video was shot, I really got in tune with the powerful energy of the Pacific ocean. So the rhythm was particularly fast.

  • nice- i iwsh i could do these. it is alot harder for me to do these though. maybe someday

  • Ryan,

A long journey always starts with one small step.

The idea is build up your strength and mobility by starting with a few repetitions of each exercise (modified if required, as shown on the DVD) and, over time, build up to 21 repetitions.

It may take you a year or more to get there but you will be the better for it all along.

  • haha yes it will be quite the challenge for me- due to the fact that i am injured with a complete spinal cord injury level t-6. I want to manifest my full potential- just a bit of a more interesting challenge for me to figure this out

  • Ryan,

    Quite the challenge indeed.

As a minimum, you can visualize yourself doing the exercises.

Research has shown that the nervous system does not really differentiate between visualized and actual movements.

  • Thanks- i will do that and use all my senses when i visualize aswell which will help- i am on the right path to figuring out a way within for healing myself, and appreciation all all the things i can learn in life- like these yoga techniques

  • Beautiful, thankyou for keeping the integrity of the practice.

  • Thank you very much. God bless you

  • Probably the most useful video of the tieban rites i´ve seen so far. thank you very much

  • I love what you say about the mind. My mother was a teacher agrees with you. Once I was designing some clothes so I used a Russian clothes company site on the web with Euro clothes companies and most of the day I played only to find out later that someone was yelling MY GOD YOU USED 7 LANGUAGES!!!!!!! you don't know or understand !!!!!!! I forgot I could not read those languages so caught up in the clothes designs.

Would not have known to this day without people telling me. Never noticed.

My wife healed from a pneumonia that almost killed her twice over a period of three years. Right from the onset, I recommended these rites but for her, what comes from outside was more important than our inner power. When she was extremely sick, she decided to do the 5 rites and, within 3 months, there were no more signs of her sickness.

  • informative and helpful - thx

  • Thank you ! OM

  • thank you!

  • you do it so fast...

  • This is a really energizing exercice and, once you get over the physical limitations, the pace tends to pick up.

Sometimes I do it much slower just to feel what is going on in various parts of the body.

Other times, I let the energy carry me away and it all becomes totally effortless.

  • thank you, great video!

  • Happy to see the 6th rite added here. Seems most feel you have to be celibate and a vegetarian to do it.

  • Li,

    No way?

The 6th Tibetan is about moving energy upwards.

That kind of exercise is an integral part of tantric sex.

    Pierre

  • exactly

  • Pekné video !

  • I have been enjoying the amazing power of 5 Rites for about 2 years. I do them, full 21 daily/mostly in the early morning hours (In weekends I double it by doing another evening set.)

The Original Book I "The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth Book" By Peter Kelder, and II., a review book by various authors suggested for new beginners, in which important tips for maintaining a healthy diet are provided. You gently try to perform a few weeks and see how you feel. Regards & Always (:

  • The DVD (and my own practice) is based on another book on the Five Tivetans by Christopher Kilham, "The Five Tibetans, Five dynamic exercises for Health, Energy and Personal Power".

That book also offers straigthforward information about the energy body, Kudalini energy and the practice of yoga Nidra (yogic sleep).

  • I used the same book and have practiced it as he describes ever since. I've had good results. But I have a question. In the book Kilham mentions that Kelder omitted breathing in the original and he added them back in. But he didn't say where he got them or the sixth tibetan from. I'm wondering if his derivation might not be the same as the originals, though I agree with him that breathing has to be a part of it. Has anyone found other ways to breathe with these? Thanks for this upload.

  • Thank You, I start to do them and I'm concious that they work, I'll be back in 20 days to post how they work, most important is doing them with deep Konsciousness. Namaste

  • Basically for rite 5 you want to scoop down and then exhale out completely, then tense the body (1-2 seconds) then scoop back up as you inhale and when complete with breath tense completely (1-2 seconds). The movement is like 'divebomber' pushups if you are familiar w/ them. The elbows bend completely through each up & down movement. The body tensing w/ breath both held fully in and exhaled completely out is the key to this rite.

  • Rites 3-5 not being done correctly. Rite 3: the chin should tuck in completely against the chest while keeping the spine straight before arching back. Rite 4: At the peak it should be held at full breath and the body completely tensed, as well as the chin should be tucked in when sitting and exhaling completely (done too quickly here). Rite 5: Done too quickly & movement is wrong, at the downward dog pause and tense entire body with full breath, at cobra pause and tense body w/ breath exhaled

  • You are partly right.

In Rite #3, the chin should be tucked in as far as possible to stimulate the Thyroid gland (I had a stiff neck on that day).

I am not familiar with the version of Rite #5 that you describe. In my own practice, I like the 5 Tibetans to be fluid and energetic.

There are multiple versions of all yoga posture and there is no dogma about which is right: some versions are more appropriate for some people at some point in their life.

  • The way I described the rites is the way I interpreted them being described in the book by Peter Kelder.

I do agree with what you are saying though in terms of not being dogmatic, if the way you are doing them works for you, all the more power to you.

The tensing, slower movements & deep belly breathing are an avenue to explore if you ever plateau in your current practice.

    ~PeacE~

  • Interesting!

I based my practice on the book by Christopher Kilham.

Diferent strokes for diferent folks :-)

    Shanti

  • Pierre-Thank you for your response. One other brief question, please.

I notice that you spin counter clockwise and I couldn't help notice that the Turkish Whirling Dervishes spin in the opposite direction. Does it matter which way a person spins?

  • In the 5 Tibetans, the spinning is normally done CLOCKWISE.

There are people that suggest that you should spin the other way in the Southern hemisphere.

If you are currious about it, try either way and see.

    Pierre

  • flyyogi dont speak about things that u dont know!if u try in those exercises spinning otherwise there could be serious damage to all body course of time!beside you own demonstration is so full of mistakes that it would be better learn them correctly!

  • Pierre-Thanks for the great lesson. What can a person do to get more opening in the shoulder area in order to do the crab lift all the way up. I can't seem to get to the top because my shoulders aren't flexible enough.

  • There are al kinds of yoga stretches for the shoulders (Yoga Mudra and Eagle come to mind).

However, if you keep doing the 5 Tibetans as best you can, you will notice a gradual opening in your shoulders ( Crab lift and Down Dog especially).

Initially, you might try putting your hands a little wider in Crab lift and turning your fingers out a little to give your shoulders more moving room.

    Keep up keeping up.

    Namasté,

    Pierre

  • spinning is also used for learning to identify with witness consciousness. to separate that part of the self which does not move. to be in the water but not wet, in the world but not of the world. Osho used similar exercises done for much longer times to achieve inner silence as a radical form of meditation.

  • Ive also relinquished the first spinning tibetan, i found no reason to perform this at all.. my thoughts were that spinning and becomind dizzt sensitises one to there energy body more- is this the reason its performed? If not i see no health benefits in spinning like that.

One more Q, when doing #4 are your feet together or apart, if apart how far in say, inches?

thanks and keep enjoying the tibetans.

  • It is said that spinning helps "spin off " negative energy through the fingertips (like a centrifuge) and to bring in new energy through the skull.

I also believe that spinning also works on the inner ear so, that, over time, you get less dizzy.

For #4 (Crab lifts), the feet shoud be hip width apart and, to keep them there, the emphasis should be on pressing the ball of the big toes into the ground.

    Namasté

    Pierre

  • spinning are great help try it separately without any exercise and you would find that it gives great strenght to all body!buto f course never overdose!spinning makes also mind very strong not only body.but if you overdose then you mind lack the sensitivity to surroundings and becames little unsensitive.

  • thanks for the vid, im thinking of making my own 5 tibetans video soon.. i like the excersises and agree with #4 to think of gliding your knees forward, Also, with #3, when you complete the arch back its easier to 'drop' your pelvis and allow gravity to naturally realign your spine rather than use your own force..

  • im not sure whether to really believe this or not but my friend does it and he's 40. he looks like he's in his mid 20's so maybe it does do something?

  • surely it makes you better not otherwise!anything you do for health makes one look better and younger!and as in those exercises your breath works not only body streching so you gain more vitality for sure!

  • man in this video looks younger than his real age he has trained well and that has produced results:)

  • Iwould be very happy if Icould do the rites like him.I do them every day but find number 4 very difficult. However I intend to do them every day of my life,if I can't do the 21,say if Iam pressed for time,i'll do 10 in the morning and 11 at night.

    namaste.

  • The "trick" for #4 is to think about gliding your knees and hips forward instead of thinking about lifting your buttocks.

  • Iknow what you mean my friend, but I weigh 14 stone and am 65 years of age, haha.

however I will keep trying.thank you for your reply.

  • I am 62 (59 in the video)

As far as the weight, it may be a factor, but the most important factor is what you "think" that you can or cannot do. I know that yor mind thinks that it is almost impossible to lift that heavy butt.

That is why I recommend tricking your mind by focussing it elsewhere by thinking about "gliding" your knees forward.

    Keep up the good work

  • this are realy scarry excersises differennt times i took up the exercizes people reacted at me spontanious that i was looking ashtonishing good. Even in school when i was about 18 i felt bad and i was in a serious fight in school with some girl that i called a hooker the next day i did the excersizes she told in a full classroom to me that was looking yummy everyone was wondering why she was changing her mind me not, very eri

  • it is simple, you look little bit fresher:)if you had taken very hot and cold shower 1-3 minute the result were be even better man!get real!

  • yes maybe but if you play tricks with you r mind the placebo effect can realy work

  • not good!if you confirm what i am saying that dosent mean i am right!this exercises are not in no way producing only placebo effect! they are the most stronger exercises for body development and if done even wrongly giving all that body needs to be healthy and sexy:)

  • The Rites are the greatest thing since slied bread.

I have done 11 mths, Cant belive the change's Youthfull skin, jump out of bed , vitality, just wow!!

  • okei lets see-first that idiot breathes out from mouth!3 exercise-hands are wrongly so no right back-bent!4 and 5 exercise no moments of right body-tension!5-exrecise his heels are wrongly!last the sixth exercise is so wrong that i will not do any comment at all!as i said take a book and study carefully!

  • no need to be rude, Show how great u are. the secret fountain of youth is good exersie, any how or any way, just do it.

  • so do it, if you like it:)

  • maybe this has nothing to do with indian stuff. It did say tibet. Not everything that looks like yoga is from india.

  • could be some sort of tibet yoga, I just tried these exercises. thanks for sharing feels good

  • Is there 21 circles in spinning when you rich the 7th day? Can anybody tell me that, please?

  • listen very carefully, those man have doing that thing wrongly so dont listen them take a book, this is the best advise to you.each week add only 2 spinnings and only after several week bild up full 21 round,it takes 9 weeks, dont hurry.

  • why is it wrong

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Nice - now I can start again - thanks

  • Thank you for sharing this helpful video! I'm learning this practise from internet now but video is better than text and pictures only! :)

  • Is this how fast this is meant to be done? And is it true that the spinning should be clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere and anti-clockwise Northern Hemisphere?

  • 1/ I do it (and pactice Yoga) slower than this. For maximum benefit one should practise daily, and slowly. It really depends on you. I complete a full set including spinning all 21 reps in 10-12 minutes. It takes longer for my mother.

2/ As far as I know, you always spin in clockwise direction in Northern and Southern Hemispheres...

  • I' m going to try it after my holiday!!

  • Hello Friends,

Try it for 7 days first, start with only a few exercises, do a few reps...maybe 5-7 times for each, and gradually incresase. You'll be amazed! Regards

  • I've read about it eight years ago, and still haven't beguin. But you Flyogi have convinced me to try. Thanks!

  • "The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth Book I & II written by Peter Kelder", suggested. Regards.

  • Brilliant! I have been doing the 5 T's only for 10 months, 9 days... Excellent results/improvements: I feel GREAT. Many thanks for sharing...

  • thank you for sharing, Flyogi!!!

  • It explained alot. I have been doing this for 6 months! It's amazing. I feel great and haven't gotten sick.

  • this is better than other videos about that. more correct but why you breath out from mouth!and the tension moments you just run by!and the six exercise is not worth studing, completly wrong.sorry!:)

  • The exhale is optionaly from nose or mouth (more forceful and energizing through mouth).

The breath holding (kumbhakas) at the end of each exercise is an addition based on over 16 years of experience teaching yoga. Its goal is to concentrate and focus the prana stirred up by each exercise.

The Sixth Tibetan has tremendous potential for learning to direct sexual energy and is NOT about suppressing it.

  • why you speak in hindu way, be simple- holding breath and body-warm are right words.
