I believe that these networks are a fad right now, also I believe that they are being hyped up by spammers and advertisers. Personally I dont use either facebook or twitter. I think they are agents gathering Info for the gov. and corps. for some sinister purpose.
@twokad Although there are 'normal users' that have absolutely no clue how to use social media to their advantage, that really isn't the point.
Celebrities, businesses and the like, if used correction, can use social media to the fullest extent and get more out of it than any ad compaign. Not only can it be used to get 'real time' information about a companies products, it can also be used to spread word about a cause as well as a company as a whole. Social Media is not a fad
It's useful yes, but I too am sick of the hype. I'm especially dubious at the uses we will put social media to; I think we will miss an opportunity to engage in dialogue that will deepen our understanding and democracy while we are distracted by the likes of twitter thinking we can have meaningful conversations in 140 characters or less.
