You should NOT use FMJ's or Full metal jacketed rounds for DEFENSE. these bullets can exit an attacker and continue to another target! the point of a bullet stopping in the body you intended it to is for it not to continue to an UNINTENDED target! Hope this helps some of you.
It is a great pistol. The mag can be taken out with one hand. It is not real easy, but you can get the mag to fall. You have to hold the release open.
People can't help but show off their knowledge by nit-picking everything; Ok,we get it,you know specific terminology...Whoop-Dee-Doo!
I put those little shiny bullet thingies in the stick that goes in the handle of my hand pistol and then I pull back on the finger thing inside the small ring and it makes a loud bang sound.
Sometimes I see pieces of yellow metal flying out to the side...must be gun parts breaking off from the big back jerk I feel every time the gun makes sparky, flashy, bangs.
Nice review. By the way the mag release being located on the heel of the pistol is known as a 'European style' mag release. Just thought you'd like to know =)
Great choice in a personal defense firearm. I carry the P229 in 357 Sig, I also have a .40 calibre barrel for it. Make sure you practice with it on a regular basis. The CT grips are a great choice. I am considering a small 380 or 9MM for carry when its not reasonable to carry my P229. Stay safe.... God Bless.....
i recomend any good quality hallow point over FMJ.. or you can go with Bulldog defense which is a EFMJ its a FMJ round that expands kinda like a hallow point but its not hallow its a kool and effective round.. FMJ is designed for range and target shooting in my opinion
I found the video interesting but i do how ever feel ur info on the ammo is a bit incorrecct hornady critical defense is better than any fmj ammo.. simply because it was designed for personal protection, its designed to flower and expand leaving a larger wound with out exiting the attacker. Say you were to shoot an attacker with a FMJ round the round would not leave a larger wound and it will pass all the way through ur attacker and strike anyone or anything behind him/her
I like the video. I know you aknowlaged you made a couple of mistakes... but keep doing them . You showed me something about that gun that i would not have kown without going to the gun shop. It's nice to see that, women love thier guns to...
I owned a Sig Sauer P230 back in 1987. Great gun. I had the stainless model. Sometimes the edge of the slide would bite your hand while shooting. I also own a Sig Sauer P226. Intimidation and not using the gun is a good thing. I just want to tell you what I tell my wife. Dont ever freeze up and let your attacker get that gun away from you. If he does, he will kill you with it. Good lawful people like yourself should live. The bad guys go down. I hope you carry it everyday. Good video.Stay safe.
It is a neat looking gun. I really enjoy it when people also take the gun to the range and shoot it. I like to hear about how easy or hard the trigger pull is, how the trigger breaks, how you like the sights, how comfortable it feels in your hand, all the stuff that I can't learn about it unless I'm there. I also like it when the poster at least comments on how easy or hard disassembling and re-assembling is, especially if it can be really hard (like the Ruger 22/45 Mk. iii). Thanks!
Nice pistol. I want one. I'm a little bit surprised by your comments on accuracy. First, any well-made pistol will always be infinitely more accurate than the shooter. Also, a friend had a Sig P230 years ago, and I found it to be one of the most easily controllable pistols I've ever fired. But that is very subjective, I guess. Good vid.
I have a question about your Crimson Trace Lasergrips. On mine the laser is really dim after a lot of use, even after I replace the batteries. I was wondering if you have the same problems? I have a video posted on my P232 but I do not address the laser issues. I look forward to your response. Thanks!
My wife actually had a ton of trouble racking the slide on my sig, so she ended up getting a Double Action revolver/
I hadn't heard of using Full Metal Jacket as a self defense round, it is a good point though that the soft points and hollow points that may not expand with the small .380 round
First off, nice P232 (I'm a Sig fan). Please never think that a laser or just the sight of a gun will deter someone. If you think that way, you might as well throw milk duds at them. If you're forced to show your weapon, figure that you will need to use it (eg: shoot a person). If you can't bring yourself to shoot another person in self defense, don't carry a gun since it may just get taken away from you when you hesitate and used against you.
I think it is silly everyone gets upset about clip Vs magazine. Any IDIOT would know what you are talking about. Obsessive compulsive people that feel they need to correct everything and everyone.... annoy the heck out of me and are usually pretty jacked up in many aspects. Anywho, a great first review. Stick with it
may i suggest for future demonstrations and your safety, that the next time you want to demonstrate loading a chamber with a round that you use a snap cap or other inert round. also the regarding your choice of round, i suggest doing some more research on the type of round you carry.i dont know the grain load or wound ballistics of a .380 but your idea of using fmj rounds now means if your rounds go through someone then they can keep going and damage other people/ objects nearby. thumbs up!
Awesome vid, but I have some advice. FMJs can tend to over-penetrate, even with such a small caliber. How thick is the average burglar? probably not obese, right? Chest to back, I am only ~8", maybe less. If someone of my stature was shot with a .380 FMJ, the bullet -could- pass straight thru me, and into anyone standing behind me (such as a family member in another room). I would rather have to shoot twice than worry about hitting an unintended target. Just food for thought!!
Awesome video! Handled brothers Sig P232 yesterday and fell in love. Hope to purchase one! Something you might want to try, its much easier to chamber a round if you cock the hammer first then pull the slide back and decock. :)
it's a free country, call it a clip all day. Don't listen to these know it alls. They can't even wipe their own rear ends. probally living in their moms basement of a double wide.
@abafrank07 It's not being a "know it all" you ignorant dumbass. A clip is a metallic container that strips off rounds into a bolt action rifle, M1 Garand or a Mauser C96. A magazine is a container for rounds that you actually insert into the butt of a firearm. Therefore you can't confuse the terms as they're literally not interchangeable, you fucking retard.
Those hollowpoints were tested with an average penetration of 11.4" in ballistics gel which is just .6" short of the FBI recommended level of 12" of penetration. Which makes it pretty adequate in a defensive firearm. If you look on the website brassfetcher they have ballistics gel tests of most popular .380 ammo.
Nice review on a great pistol. The Sig P232 is my carry piece, and it conceals very well. With regards to the ammo choices, I keep it loaded with 95 gr. FMJ rounds. I know it will feed the FMJ reliably 100 %. Various hollowpoint 380 rounds have either failed to expand in various tests, or expanded and didn't penetrate much, or may jam up the gun. The most important things are that you have a gun when you need it and you can reliably hit what you are aiming at.
she know exactly what she is talking about. if you carry a .380 you want a full metal jacket. the soft and hollow tip .380 rounds dont penetrate enough to do damage. its like a .22 cal......most of the damage is going to be the penetration not the expansion of the projectile. i always use FMJ in my "carry" fire arms. mostly because i know they will go bang when i pull the trigger. good ammo is reliable ammo.
I don't care if a gun is sexy I am not into having sex with guns however if I heard u right u said it was a 9mm but I think it is a .380 smaller caliber bullet. I would like this gun better if it had a rail for a light as I prefer green lasers and crimson trace still does not make green lasers. I do like the mag release in the bottom as u will not accidentaly hit it but it makes changing clips harder. Do u know if this gun comes in .40 caliber?
You and me both. lol While it's true a FMJ will penetrate deeper than a hollow point that isn't necessarily what you want. I think you're under estimating the expansion aspect of a hollow point which is specifically designed to cause maximum tissue damage. Hornady would be a nasty little round to get shot with. On the other hand a FMJ round will make a clean puncture type wound and probably over-penetrate which puts you at risk of shooting your neighbors. Check out tnoutdoors9's cha
I agree with Mrexitusactaprobat, but I have one additional criticism: Please refrain from using the term "clip" when you are referring to a magazine. As an instructor it's a real pet peeve.
Also... keep with the hollow points. Yes ...they are expensive, but they are brutal. You don't want FMJ.. Full metal Jacket. They are less effective to stopping a threat, and could possibly kill an innocent. They over penetrate. I have countless real life vids I could show you. You are right on with the ammo you already have. Hollow point opens like a flower and creates a devistating wound cavity. Just look it up. Great vid though. 100% support

Fiocchi loads a pretty hot and accurate .380 FMJ, if you are still considering switching to FMJ for defense.
