We're slaughtering our enemies with technology from the 80's.. if we get into a war where we actually need things like an F-22 or the Typhoon we're not going to have enough of them to matter.
This is just about keeping the companies that makes this hardware in business.
Im bored of these Typhoon vs F-22 rants now. Lets just say the Spitfire would destroy both of them :) ............until an American pipes up about a P-51 anyway.
This is the best close quarter combat aircraft available. Then add its enormous payload for ground attack etc and you have the perfect platform for development into 2040 and on
I don't know how the Eurofighter and F-22 compare. I'm sure they have strengths and disadvantages to the other. I've seen the F-22 fly at Nellis AFB and I've neither seen nor heard anything like them in my life.
@IpMan19 F22 may as well not exist the whole program has been scrapped. Until the F-35 enters the skies full scale I can say with much confidence that the Eurofighter is the best fighter jet in service today.

The planes weakness is its inherent instability. Without its computers, flight is impossible unlike the Raptor or Gripen which will remain under complete control without computers. But really, of these planes in a close in dogfight, the Raptor would win because of thrust vectoring and 90,000 lbs of thrust. Also, although the EF can do high-alpha maneuvers, they are not sustainable or energy-efficient because it loses speed.
As for TVN, now that India has chosen the EF over the F18/F35/mig...T3 will get TVN although it only makes the jet more manouverable at very low speeds. Real combat will be conducted at supersonic speeds as it gives the missie more energy. Raptor is not a dogfighter mate...it relies on stealth and cannot compete with EF in that dept. 90lbs of thrust is nothing because it's all to do with power to weight ratio and EF's is better.
The f-22 is a strike fighter its mainly designed for dog fighting the EF is designed for multi role missions. Even with tvn a full loaded EF with weapons hanging from its wing cant compete in maneuverability against a clean configuration loaded f-22.

NOTHING can match the typhoon at that range; regardless of payload
Thats funny how the UK did simulations were the f-22 scored a 10 to 1 kill death ratio against su-35's vs the euro fighter's 5 to 1 kill death ratio.
A fully loaded typhoon with all the drag and weight created by its ordnance can not match a f-22 that is always in clean configuration. Using absolute words like NOTHING proves you have been watching too many top gear or discovery channel shows

Avro Vulcan is a monster bomber with 4x concord engines for carring nukes very very far it's a lot smaller and lighter than a fighter plane. Comparing that to a small fighter plane tells us all enough that you cant handle facts and make up bullshit .
It's been mention many times on the news and on documentaries that the Eurofighter can hold 13G without coming apart whereas an F-16 will come apart if it sustains 9G for too long The Pilot has a G-suit that puts presssure on all the body.
All the USA guys on here puttting every other aircraft down saying we have F-22 bl bl bla when their own goverment said lets fuck off the F-22 it's good on paper but in the current conflict we cant fire a single shot with it or afford enough to replace the ageing F-15s. USA is noy buying the F-35 designed in the USA but to keep costs low and used the best parts it's built in many countries. Unlike the F-22 the F-35 will be able to work in Afganistan.
F-22 is cancled as the production reset up costs puts the next F-22 at 240 million each ouch! the maintenence fiasco means 40% of rapters are always having work done on them when they should be in the sky. They made it too good thats what killed the project.
The EF needs, what?! 4 to 11 countries too, build it, design it, etc....etc... but, the F-22's needs only one, USA !!! second all the EU nations(consortium), must argee on all of the up-grades, and stages. Good luck, with that working all the time !!!! I know damn, well that the UK, can do better, as it has the best Air Force in Europe, by far.

@broadblik: Exactly. It has to do with the local air pressure change around the plane that lets the water vwpor condense in certain regions - where the flow goes supersonic locally, but the plane itself well well below the speed of sound. Supersonic flights are forbidden at airshows.
Adding external missiles ruins the performance and stealth I think they got it right with Eurofighter and its done well in real world fighter to fighter tests.
The thing is, that the Eurofighter dont need steath because of the high turning ability.The EF got the best turning ability of all fighters.
All modern fighters are able to do 9G maneuver only for like 2 or 3 seconds ( for a few seconds).The EF can flight 9G maneuver for a much longer time, also at maximum speed.

@JuNgLeRoCKa Stealth isn't for the lack of manuverability, its for first strike capability. You wont see him coming, therefore you wont know when to manuever, and since the EF can't out manuever a AIM9X your dead.
Not needing stealth is a fallacy. Every plane benefits from stealth, it's a fact. The only reason not to do stealth is lack of funding, lower budget, or lack of technology. The F-16 has been capable of sustaining 9 g turns since the 70's. It's not unique to the EF.
@KARASAWA40, Don't need a source, I know and its quite noticeable, first, look at the design it's a delta wing, secondly, every pilot has to wear a enhanced G-suit, so they don't black out.
You do need a source, or you could just be making things up. Unsourced information can be very worthless at times.
Delta wing - so is the Avro Vulcan, it can't out turn the F-16, so delta wing isn't proof.
Enhanced g suit - no effect on the plane, so it does not prove anything.
The F-16 is rated for 9 g, this means it can pull this indefinitely, it makes no sense to rate a plane's g limit if it can't be sustained, because then you can literally put any number as the rating.
@KARASAWA40, you quite clearly don't understand, the EF can more easily do 9g than the F-16, the EF can do more agile maneuvers at 9g than the F-16.
The enhanced G-suit is criticle, yes you can do 9g in both planes but in the F-16 since you dont have a specified suit, you can only do 9g for seconds or else the pilot will black out since the your blood in your body flows down when you start hitting 9g, the suit maintains your blood direction where its supposed to be.
OK, if that is your argument, then this a problem of wording. The F-16 and EF-2000 can both pull 9g as long as needed, but the pilot will last longer in the EF-2000, this is true. And yes, the EF-2000 is more agile than the F-16, but they both have 9 g tolerance.
@TheMitchy93 Each and every fighters got their own G-suits now a days! The EF´s been shoot down in 2 redflag-exercises with no Gripen lost! I start sincerely to doubt that the EF is better that the JAS Gripen? I wish Norway bought Gripen instead of the EF or far to expensive Raptor!
USA did a battle simulation with china and discoverd the F-22 would run out of missiles before it ran out of targets and their AWACS and tankers would be destroyed causing all F-22 to run out of fuel and crash. F-22 can only carry 8 missiles the F-35 can carry 4 causing USA to rethink how many F-35 they should buy Vs F-22. Internal bays are not looking good.
I got a record with the engine sound of the top twenty best fighter engines since WWII! You can buy it in shops connected to the Airforce bases in Sweden.
Also bear in mind that these are simulated tests where no missiles are fired. The Harrier was laughed at until just 20 of them humbled the entire Argie air force in 1982.
Really...we are going to have to wait until the full version EF is out and all jets have seen combat. Then we will really know the rankings. I would bet money there's not going to be much in them.
Sealth's not invisible, it just makes it harder to get a lock (our jets would have to get closer to the F22). In reality this means the F22 will get a missile off 1st. The EF would then have to try and evade the missile. From the data I have seen the F22 looks to be marginally better at BVR combat and data is still classified for within visual range combat. Kill ratio against upgraded flankers:- F22 = 91% EF = 82& Rafael = 50% F15 = 43% F18+ = 25% F18 = 21% F16 = 21% Source = DERA

Captor-M has greater range and azimuth coverage, especially towards the edges of the scan, where energy losses due to phase shifting can dramatically reduce theperformance of AESA radar.
The only time the F22 is "stealthy" is when its radar is turned off. As soon as it turns its radar on its gonna lite up on the EF's radar like the 4th of July

I think that's the main weakness in the idea behind stealth. It's expensive to upgrade and much cheaper to counter it. If college kids in the UK can detect stealth then I'm sure the Russians can lol
@29Gixxer: The DERA study is outdated. I know these numbers even from my EF2000 computer game manual. The game is from 1995, the year DERA was founded (a conglomeration of 8 organizations).
Yes...and there's not even been allot of unclassified tests anyway. I believe the BVRAAM Meteor is what will give it the real punch in an air engagement. This missile is the best without a doubt...far superior to the AIM 120C/D which is a huge adavntage.
@29Gixxer: I checked the manual again and found out that one mportant feact seems to be missing in today's discussions about the DERA study.
RAF colonel (retired) Ned Frith, marketing manager of British aerospace back then wrote a nice introduction to the development of the EF.
He clearly states the study was a BVR combat parameter study.
A lot changed in the last 10 to 15 years, so the results would be different today, no doubt. The Rafale would be rated close to the EF today in BVR, I think.
Also...a few wiz kids from a University in UK managed to detect US stealth jets with little more than a mobile phone. You can google this.
Stealth just gives the jets alittle more cover. Remember that radars advance too. This is why USA will need to constantly upgrade the stealth tech in order to keep it working.

Actually, we are playing with using vector thrusts on the EF now. (just ask if you want the data/vids as we already have the prototype engines in operation). We may use it on the final T3 mod although their currently debating on whether this actually gives an extra ability in combat.
The silly thing about USA being so secretive with the F22 when it comes to the UK is that we develop nuclear wapons together!

Its a paper weight. The EF will be in service reliably for a very long time. The F22 will just be a sky queen that does nothing of value because it is stupidly expensive to operate and build. No country in the world would waste money on the F22 when they could have an EF. Except the good old USA of course.

Japan has been asking for f-22 for quiet some time now. but US senate forbids the sale of raptor to foreign nations, even close ally. this air craft still has a lot of bugs that need working out, no doubt there. but whcih aircraft has been this complex and without problems at first? just wait until a republican gets the office, not only they'll have the bugs fixed, they will push for a lot higher numbers of F-22's beyound 187.

The EF costs 70% of the F-22's price, and the F-22 barely costs more than the F-15 to operate. There's no reason that a nation would have to settle for one in place of the F-22, except that the F-22 is banned for export.

And the F35 is also fucking expensive and has major budget overruns. And Canada (amongst other countries) keeps committed to the F35 cuz it's fucking good.

Avro Vulcan is a monster bomber with 4x concord engines for carring nukes very very far it's a lot smaller and lighter than a fighter plane. Comparing that to a small fighter plane tells us all enough that you cant handle facts and make up bullshit .

@broadblik: Exactly. It has to do with the local air pressure change around the plane that lets the water vwpor condense in certain regions - where the flow goes supersonic locally, but the plane itself well well below the speed of sound. Supersonic flights are forbidden at airshows.

The thing is, that the Eurofighter dont need steath because of the high turning ability.The EF got the best turning ability of all fighters.
All modern fighters are able to do 9G maneuver only for like 2 or 3 seconds ( for a few seconds).The EF can flight 9G maneuver for a much longer time, also at maximum speed.

Not needing stealth is a fallacy. Every plane benefits from stealth, it's a fact. The only reason not to do stealth is lack of funding, lower budget, or lack of technology. The F-16 has been capable of sustaining 9 g turns since the 70's. It's not unique to the EF.

You do need a source, or you could just be making things up. Unsourced information can be very worthless at times.
Delta wing - so is the Avro Vulcan, it can't out turn the F-16, so delta wing isn't proof.
Enhanced g suit - no effect on the plane, so it does not prove anything.
The F-16 is rated for 9 g, this means it can pull this indefinitely, it makes no sense to rate a plane's g limit if it can't be sustained, because then you can literally put any number as the rating.

@KARASAWA40, you quite clearly don't understand, the EF can more easily do 9g than the F-16, the EF can do more agile maneuvers at 9g than the F-16.
The enhanced G-suit is criticle, yes you can do 9g in both planes but in the F-16 since you dont have a specified suit, you can only do 9g for seconds or else the pilot will black out since the your blood in your body flows down when you start hitting 9g, the suit maintains your blood direction where its supposed to be.

OK, if that is your argument, then this a problem of wording. The F-16 and EF-2000 can both pull 9g as long as needed, but the pilot will last longer in the EF-2000, this is true. And yes, the EF-2000 is more agile than the F-16, but they both have 9 g tolerance.

USA did a battle simulation with china and discoverd the F-22 would run out of missiles before it ran out of targets and their AWACS and tankers would be destroyed causing all F-22 to run out of fuel and crash. F-22 can only carry 8 missiles the F-35 can carry 4 causing USA to rethink how many F-35 they should buy Vs F-22. Internal bays are not looking good.

EF's have already managed to get radar lock on F22's but the F22 had a better ratio I believe.
In a real fight allot would come down to the pilot. Theoritically, if the pilots were equal then my money is on the F22 but only just....

Also bear in mind that these are simulated tests where no missiles are fired. The Harrier was laughed at until just 20 of them humbled the entire Argie air force in 1982.
Really...we are going to have to wait until the full version EF is out and all jets have seen combat. Then we will really know the rankings. I would bet money there's not going to be much in them.

Captor-M has greater range and azimuth coverage, especially towards the edges of the scan, where energy losses due to phase shifting can dramatically reduce theperformance of AESA radar.
The only time the F22 is "stealthy" is when its radar is turned off. As soon as it turns its radar on its gonna lite up on the EF's radar like the 4th of July

@29Gixxer: The DERA study is outdated. I know these numbers even from my EF2000 computer game manual. The game is from 1995, the year DERA was founded (a conglomeration of 8 organizations).

The study was based on tech assumptions, especially Russian radars, that don't apply anymore.

Yes...and there's not even been allot of unclassified tests anyway. I believe the BVRAAM Meteor is what will give it the real punch in an air engagement. This missile is the best without a doubt...far superior to the AIM 120C/D which is a huge adavntage.

@29Gixxer: I checked the manual again and found out that one mportant feact seems to be missing in today's discussions about the DERA study.
RAF colonel (retired) Ned Frith, marketing manager of British aerospace back then wrote a nice introduction to the development of the EF.
He clearly states the study was a BVR combat parameter study.
A lot changed in the last 10 to 15 years, so the results would be different today, no doubt. The Rafale would be rated close to the EF today in BVR, I think.

Also...a few wiz kids from a University in UK managed to detect US stealth jets with little more than a mobile phone. You can google this.
Stealth just gives the jets alittle more cover. Remember that radars advance too. This is why USA will need to constantly upgrade the stealth tech in order to keep it working.

This is why the F22 failed. It's becuase it was so far reaching in it's concept that it needs more investment and development but that idiot Obama won't commit to it.
On paper the F22 is the best although in reality it's useless without more funds.
Also, F22 cannot do half of what the EF can do (hitting sea tagets, ground targets etc).
USA need to sell it to us Brits as we could help you make it the way it should of been.

Actually, we are playing with using vector thrusts on the EF now. (just ask if you want the data/vids as we already have the prototype engines in operation). We may use it on the final T3 mod although their currently debating on whether this actually gives an extra ability in combat.
The silly thing about USA being so secretive with the F22 when it comes to the UK is that we develop nuclear wapons together!
F22 cannot take out our Trident missiles and so all this secretness is stupid :0

Its a paper weight. The EF will be in service reliably for a very long time. The F22 will just be a sky queen that does nothing of value because it is stupidly expensive to operate and build. No country in the world would waste money on the F22 when they could have an EF. Except the good old USA of course.

@supramanz you are wrong there. Japan has been asking for f-22 for quiet some time now. but US senate forbids the sale of raptor to foreign nations, even close ally. this air craft still has a lot of bugs that need working out, no doubt there. but whcih aircraft has been this complex and without problems at first? just wait until a republican gets the office, not only they'll have the bugs fixed, they will push for a lot higher numbers of F-22's beyound 187.

have u heard about some of the jets wot britian is working on BAE Taranis which is a stealth unmanned bomber and this is top secret but thay sey there working on a stethfigter same as the f-22 if not better its called halo stealth fighter look it up

The EF costs 70% of the F-22's price, and the F-22 barely costs more than the F-15 to operate. There's no reason that a nation would have to settle for one in place of the F-22, except that the F-22 is banned for export.
Unrelated, but the takeoff in this vid is nice.

Technically the f-22 has already done what the Ef has. The only thing both have done is guard against Russian bombers. So your point is null.
