I always thought of this as Cirno's theme in the game sinche she's the mid-boss and is

@CrimsonMoonM i always think of a stage theme as the theme of the Mid-Boss. So this is kind of like Cirno's second of at least three themes.

@GThomas1502 It's sorta win-lose. Cirno defeats Marisa's spells but she is the one more badly hurt. Now Cirno has to defeat Yukari! (Seeing as in PoFV she beats Sikieiki and Yuuka, then beats Utsuho and Reimu in Hisoutensoku)

@SoulOfRandomness Also, according to SSiB, it's not who's less injured. The winner of the spellcard battle is the one with more beautiful patterns, and the loser has to accept defeat. Since Marisa accepted defeat, that says she lost.

This theme is really underrated... it's not only great, but it fits Stage 1 of PCB very well. However, the best stage 1 theme from the entire series is probably Imperishable Night's.

IN stage 1 music reminds me of old Megaman 3 music for some reason (maybe a Wily stage?). Either way, I agree I usually don't much care for past first stage musics but IN had a good one.

My favorite Stage One theme has to be Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.  It has a very "Time for adventure, let's get going" feel to me.
