  • I don't care if it's actually Silence Kid or not, I fell in love with the song called Silence Kit on CR,CR, so in my mind that's what it's called.

  • i renamed it Silence Kid on my ipod :]

  • THIS BANDS FUCKING UNBELIEVABLEEEEEEEE

  • @retards- actually "kit" was a typo on the album sleeve, it is kid, hence why he says "kid"! so GET TAEE!

  • @BenjaminJDickson do you have proof?

  • @GradeSchoolRecords

"Due to an ink splodge on the back of the original artwork, the song originally named "Silence Kid" has become known as "Silence Kit". This misnomer persisted when designer Mark Ohe printed it onto the back of the re-issue Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA's Desert Origins, despite the interior artwork showing the intended name in print several times, including written in Stephen Malkmus's own handwriting."

  • KIT

  • kit

  • KIT

  • Needs more cowbell

  • @heirofsorrows i got a fever and the only subscription is more cowbell

  • :45 i thought he had a mustache. ahahah.

anyway, great song. i love this band.

  • what's this song about?

  • @Thursday0987 malkmus described it as an 'anti-gossip song'

  • One of Malkmus most personal lyrics.

  • One of my favs. I'll never get tired of Pavement. i'm 35 and i feel 21 every time I hear em...

  • Same to me man, I know exactly what you mean!!!!

  • @coosess ..I'm 46 and feel 20 when I hear em...nice

  • @coosess im 11 and feel 40 when i listen to them (-;

  • I wonder if steve malkmus jacks. These nigga be ballin. lil wayne approves

  • dumbass lil wayne is a fuckin tool

  • Jackin jackin. you know niggas don't be jackin

  • Great tune great song great band. make a nigga wanna jack.

  • Awsome! The song is actually called "Silence Kit" though.

  • actually it is "silence kid"...it was an album misprint....

in the cd re-print it still says "silence kit" but inside it says the actual name being "kid"

  • hes right, i dunno why he has thumbs down

  • what guitar is malkmus playing here?

  • That's definitely a fender stratocaster. As far as what particular model and what not though, I can not say.

  • What an epic tune..Pavement ist rad!!

  • haha, i have that shirt

  • I have that shirt too and no one knows what it means, including me! Haha. Pavement is bike??

  • my girlfriend is fluent in German, so she always reases me about that, Pavemnt is Bike!

  • it's known as both silence kid and silence kit to fans alike. that's the great thing about songwriters like malkmus..it's ambiguous what he's talking about half the time anyway with the abstract non-sequiturs he uses .. he's known for skewing words like that so I wouldn't even put it past him that it was a deliberate typo

  • It's actually supposed to be called "Silence Kid" there was a printing error.

  • Its "Silence Kit" on Crooked Rain

  • left off the "screwing myself with my hand" at the end. Did he not like to sing that live?

  • i would hope you'd agree that the end without the words was awesome; extra energy and concentration went into nailing that sound

  • i actually noticed in uhh a track of the slanted enchanted deluxe and reduxe or whatever it is during a live performance he censors himself so for whatever reason i suppose he cuts out the vulgarity

  • a great performance

(i call it silent kid b/c that is what it totally sounds like every time - he never says "silence")

  • silence KIT

  • silence KID

  • wrong again einstein

  • there was a typo on the album dumbass

  • and if you go on itunes and try and find it as SILENCE KID, you ain't got get shit.

    I accept your apology, bitch

  • So? You trust apple too much.

Their i software can steal ur brainz

  • Maybe itunes stole your spellcheck, or are you just eurotrash trying to speak street english?

  • don't be trashin' on ma niggas dawg

  • tru dat, tea bagga

  • It's "silence kid" in Malkmus's own handwriting in the linear notes. The mistake was caused by an ink smudge on the album, which made it appear as "silence kit". It was even reprinted incorrectly on the re-issue, which is why itunes has it wrong. It's hilarious to see "I accept your apology, bitch" when you are dead wrong. Either way, it shouldn't matter, it's just a great song, for all of us to enjoy.

  • i refer you to the prior response. Maybe SM called it silence kid, but you'll never find it using that name. How does a smudge of a "d" turn into a "t"???

Thanks at least for admitting that on itunes it's called silence kit.

I accept your apology also. ;-)

  • you all are morons, its silent kit on the album. who cares about what it says on itunes.

  • "who cares"

ppl looking for it on itunes, oh enlightened one.

  • silent kid

  • To me, this opening... so nice, so symbolic. Having loved S&E so much, I refused to listen to Crooked Rain sure of disappointment after that epic first LP. (If only I knew Watery Domesitc...).

Yet CR, CR was the child surpassing the parent, if only by following brilliance with brilliance. Silent Kid is an awesome song, so much happens, but it takes its time and is still a short song. And Malkmus never looked back, every release very worthy, just magic music, or maybe perfect sound forever.

  • i like you!

  • how do you like him when you both dont even know the name of the song.

  • Commenting about Brighten the Corners from earlier- yeah, having those reissues now is really awesome. BTC is a must have, esp if you already like pavement.

I think i would have fallen over after reading that it is really called Silence Kid. Luckily i'm sitting. But it sure looks like Silence Kit on the back cover. Has SM or anyone in the band said it's the wrong name?

  • yeah there was an ink splotch on the song list and who ever typed it thought it said silence kit

  • 1:04

  • I thought it was called "Every Day" written by Buddy Holly about 50 years back. Nevertheless a great song and a great band. It's obviously SIlence Kid, what is a Silence Kit? Nothing that's what.

  • holy shit...i thought pavement was just amazing on record...they didnt seem like a band that would be good live...BOY WAS I MISTAKEN!

  • Yeah, there are a lot of bands like that, but from what's on the internets, seems like they were pretty good. probably due in large part to the fact that Sm can shred

  • Hey! he's wearing a v neck sweater, isn't that a crime in orange county?

  • dude at 0:53's having a good time.

  • That's Bob!

  • boners

  • i think my cat plays the musical saw

  • It's Silence Kid

"Due to an ink splodge on the back of the original artwork, the song "Silence Kid" has become erroneously known as "Silence Kit". This misnomer persisted when designer Mark Ohe printed it onto the back of the re-issue Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA's Desert Origins, despite the interior artwork showing the correct name in print several times, including written in Stephen Malkmus's own handwriting."

  • on my copy of crooked rain it says silence kit, so fuck knows wat its called

  • yeah it was a misprint

  • ... loving that cowbell in the background! Malkmus rocks!!!! :-)

  • its silence KiT

  • not really

  • It's pretty ambiguous.

  • honeslty does it really matter, its a great song the title doesnt really effect it motha fuckas

  • "Brighten the Corners" is certainly worth getting - all of their albums are - but I'd wait until November 18 if I were you, when the two-disc reissue comes out.

  • i have slanted... and crooked rain... and love them both, but are the other albums worth pickin up?

  • Wowee Zowee is good. Westing has some good songs but it's a little bit underdevloped/negative-fi in places and Bee Thousand is my favorite album, so take that how you will. Haven't heard Brighten or Twilight all the way through but they sound like they have the opposite problems of Westing- hi-fi/too conventional. Jicks rule though, check that shit out

  • thanks alot. is bee thousand by guided by voices?

  • yeah. i d reccomend that too. pretty much all their albums have some merit- the later ones aren't great but they never put out an unlistenable album in my opinion and they've put out a lot of them

  • I like Wowee Zowee and Terror Twilight a lot, they're worth checking out.

  • Yes. All of them.

  • all the albums are definitely worth it.wowee zowee's my favourite, and terror twilight's a little over-produced.that aside,i envy you, having those albums to look forward too.

  • they have two disc reissues of crcr and wowee zowee, they have some great tracks, and westing is good but more like slanted enchanted than like crcr

  • Brighten the Corners is one of their absolute best CD's. I would say dont miss out on that one no matter what. Really though all Pavement cd's are well worth the money they cost a thousand times over.

  • I just started listening to Stephen Malkmus about 6 months ago. Ive been listening to it ever since. Im not a long time fan but I still think it kicks ass.

  • yesterday when i was at the s.m and the jicks concert i was crying thinking about how deep can be a song from pavement...and how far,for me, stephen is now from this. but i still adore him, and i still prefer him to everything else.

  • I just heard "Out of Reaches", and it really reminds me of Wowee Zowee stuff.

  • sounds so much like buddy holly's everyday

  • It totally does.

  • they do a great live show! respect!

  • modest mouse

  • whoa?

  • dude cock rooster how do you mean?

  • check out the perfume v performance and you'll know better

  • more cowbell!

  • the fact that they are not mainstream makes them that much more personal and fucking! wicked!

  • how can u bring in the pumpkins here? theyre the most overrated band of the 90s. they never had a single good song. pavement is the shit!

  • 2:45 to 2:56 ruined my life

  • Billy Corgan is a talentless hack with a knack for writing the most generic songs imaginable.

  • @Emoreallysucks They weren't generic, but they were terribly conceited...and of all people, he should have lip-synched his songs...;-)

  • This is the real American Dream:Great low profile,lo-fi,independent rock music(With some touch of noise also..)

  • well i like them both, but pavement wins by a COUNTRY MILE

  • the best album ever made by weezer wass made by the rentals!

  • The name is "Silence Kit" but, ya know, whatever. Amazing stuff.

  • either/or man

  • Actually he got it right. This song is really called "Silent KID" I know it says "Silent Kit" on the reissue but they got it wrong. Awsome song by the way

  • Yeah I figured that out an hour or so after i posted that.

  • do you think the reissue got it wrong, or that malkmus just likes to play around with his words?

  • What happened was there was a ink smuge on the original "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" So the D became a T. If you look on the lyric book you can find "Silent Kid" written a bunch of times

  • it's both. SM just likes to fuck around with lyrics/titles

  • did you listen to this song? this song is fuckin good. nobody writes better songs than malkmus.

  • Are you out of your mind?!

  • wow...really?

i know it's your opinion, but you can't even compare the two.

  • Pinkerton is the only album Weezer did that was really close to rivaling anything by Pavement.

Pinkerton is fantastic; not quite as good as Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, but probably more fun to listen to.

I don't get all the buzz around Blue Album; I though it was incredibly mediocre (save for My Name is Jonas; that song is incredible). And everything Weezer did from Green Album on is entirely forgettable (I do sorta like the song Hash Pipe though).

  • First of all I know it's your opiniong and everything so I'm not trying to say your wrong just trying to explain what was great Blue Album. Blue Album runs like a greatest hits album it's just great song after great song. For me the best thing about Blue Album is how different every song is. Sure they all have a Weezer feel to them but they have their own distinct sound. Also Say It Ain't So is clearly the best song on Blue Album and the best song Weezer's ever written.

  • i prefer tired of sex, say it aint so gets boring really fast.

  • Why bring Weezer into this?

  • Pavement was the reason Weezer formed and is a very big influence on the music they make. Wether or not it is good or represents Pavement is dabateable but Pavement is very deep in there music

  • You see the beauty of pavement is they made music because of the enjoyment they got from writing it and playing it. They never tried to please anybody else. Thats easier said then done.

  • just lovely

  • u two are fuckheads

  • It'll be kind of hard for him since you already ate all the dicks.

  • my favorite bad since i was 7 years old... amazingly

  • Pavement. Too many good songs to list.

  • Hey redshaftedflicker, yea, right pavement did not have great songs? Dude, its not pop music, go listen to Britney Spears and some boy bands, Pavement is not for you! If your open minded go listen to Crooked Rain (its the most pop sounding album from Pavement).

  • Wrong. go listening stones. thats Punishment enough.

  • yea your are a fuckin twat elton john and the stones both suck on your worn out twat!hahaha

  • PHENOMENAL POSTING!!!

  • PAVEMENT! WOO!! haha. theyre awesome :)

  • Reunion... that'd make my entire life. Pavement boys, c'mon :D

  • I miss these guys...

  • I hate how journalists always talk that they were constantly shit live. so untr00

  • We have to make a law in order to reunite this fucking good band (the best of the 90es)

  • I made the paper and bought the pen he wrote the song with. My bathroom groan is also the inspiration for the opening.

  • cool. Are you the girl on the pavment dvd with the unnessessarily amazing pavement collection?

  • I auditioned but Spiral had a Patti Smith fetish-- so I ended up walking home in the rain with Bob. He was a gent the entire time...

  • On the cd cover of the special edition it is listed as Silence Kit. In the liner notes it is referred to as Silence Kid.

  • I wrote that song

  • I love the different ending

  • reunite. please.

  • its called silence kit, silence kid, silent kit, or silent kid.

  • its called silent kit by the way. great video though

  • make that "Silence Kit" :D

  • ive seen it both ways on various pave albums. I dont have my special editions of Slanted and Crooked Rain on me, but I think the song has been called both. not that it matters, sweet song no matter what the name
