"Due to an ink splodge on the back of the original artwork, the song originally named "Silence Kid" has become known as "Silence Kit". This misnomer persisted when designer Mark Ohe printed it onto the back of the re-issue Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA's Desert Origins, despite the interior artwork showing the intended name in print several times, including written in Stephen Malkmus's own handwriting."
it's known as both silence kid and silence kit to fans alike. that's the great thing about songwriters like malkmus..it's ambiguous what he's talking about half the time anyway with the abstract non-sequiturs he uses .. he's known for skewing words like that so I wouldn't even put it past him that it was a deliberate typo
i actually noticed in uhh a track of the slanted enchanted deluxe and reduxe or whatever it is during a live performance he censors himself so for whatever reason i suppose he cuts out the vulgarity
It's "silence kid" in Malkmus's own handwriting in the linear notes. The mistake was caused by an ink smudge on the album, which made it appear as "silence kit". It was even reprinted incorrectly on the re-issue, which is why itunes has it wrong. It's hilarious to see "I accept your apology, bitch" when you are dead wrong. Either way, it shouldn't matter, it's just a great song, for all of us to enjoy.
i refer you to the prior response. Maybe SM called it silence kid, but you'll never find it using that name. How does a smudge of a "d" turn into a "t"???
Thanks at least for admitting that on itunes it's called silence kit.
To me, this opening... so nice, so symbolic. Having loved S&E so much, I refused to listen to Crooked Rain sure of disappointment after that epic first LP. (If only I knew Watery Domesitc...).
Yet CR, CR was the child surpassing the parent, if only by following brilliance with brilliance. Silent Kid is an awesome song, so much happens, but it takes its time and is still a short song. And Malkmus never looked back, every release very worthy, just magic music, or maybe perfect sound forever.
Commenting about Brighten the Corners from earlier- yeah, having those reissues now is really awesome. BTC is a must have, esp if you already like pavement.
I think i would have fallen over after reading that it is really called Silence Kid. Luckily i'm sitting. But it sure looks like Silence Kit on the back cover. Has SM or anyone in the band said it's the wrong name?
I thought it was called "Every Day" written by Buddy Holly about 50 years back. Nevertheless a great song and a great band. It's obviously SIlence Kid, what is a Silence Kit? Nothing that's what.
Yeah, there are a lot of bands like that, but from what's on the internets, seems like they were pretty good. probably due in large part to the fact that Sm can shred
"Due to an ink splodge on the back of the original artwork, the song "Silence Kid" has become erroneously known as "Silence Kit". This misnomer persisted when designer Mark Ohe printed it onto the back of the re-issue Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA's Desert Origins, despite the interior artwork showing the correct name in print several times, including written in Stephen Malkmus's own handwriting."
"Brighten the Corners" is certainly worth getting - all of their albums are - but I'd wait until November 18 if I were you, when the two-disc reissue comes out.
Wowee Zowee is good. Westing has some good songs but it's a little bit underdevloped/negative-fi in places and Bee Thousand is my favorite album, so take that how you will. Haven't heard Brighten or Twilight all the way through but they sound like they have the opposite problems of Westing- hi-fi/too conventional. Jicks rule though, check that shit out
yeah. i d reccomend that too. pretty much all their albums have some merit- the later ones aren't great but they never put out an unlistenable album in my opinion and they've put out a lot of them
all the albums are definitely worth it.wowee zowee's my favourite, and terror twilight's a little over-produced.that aside,i envy you, having those albums to look forward too.
Brighten the Corners is one of their absolute best CD's. I would say dont miss out on that one no matter what. Really though all Pavement cd's are well worth the money they cost a thousand times over.
I just started listening to Stephen Malkmus about 6 months ago. Ive been listening to it ever since. Im not a long time fan but I still think it kicks ass.
yesterday when i was at the s.m and the jicks concert i was crying thinking about how deep can be a song from pavement...and how far,for me, stephen is now from this. but i still adore him, and i still prefer him to everything else.
Actually he got it right. This song is really called "Silent KID" I know it says "Silent Kit" on the reissue but they got it wrong. Awsome song by the way
What happened was there was a ink smuge on the original "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" So the D became a T. If you look on the lyric book you can find "Silent Kid" written a bunch of times
Pinkerton is the only album Weezer did that was really close to rivaling anything by Pavement.
Pinkerton is fantastic; not quite as good as Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, but probably more fun to listen to.
I don't get all the buzz around Blue Album; I though it was incredibly mediocre (save for My Name is Jonas; that song is incredible). And everything Weezer did from Green Album on is entirely forgettable (I do sorta like the song Hash Pipe though).
First of all I know it's your opiniong and everything so I'm not trying to say your wrong just trying to explain what was great Blue Album. Blue Album runs like a greatest hits album it's just great song after great song. For me the best thing about Blue Album is how different every song is. Sure they all have a Weezer feel to them but they have their own distinct sound. Also Say It Ain't So is clearly the best song on Blue Album and the best song Weezer's ever written.
Pavement was the reason Weezer formed and is a very big influence on the music they make. Wether or not it is good or represents Pavement is dabateable but Pavement is very deep in there music
You see the beauty of pavement is they made music because of the enjoyment they got from writing it and playing it. They never tried to please anybody else. Thats easier said then done.
Hey redshaftedflicker, yea, right pavement did not have great songs? Dude, its not pop music, go listen to Britney Spears and some boy bands, Pavement is not for you! If your open minded go listen to Crooked Rain (its the most pop sounding album from Pavement).
