Well, are we supposed to be impressed with Tavis' story? That is nice that he got inspired by the great MLKing Jr. for his speech problem, but come on.....don't try to 'trumph' Carly's story on TV. That is rude! She might as well have not shared anything with him!!!!
huh, that was amusing to you? i thought that was an interesting story carly told because stammering is much less common in women than men, and she didnt belabor the point, unlike emersonloser who apparently uses butter in his gay lifestyle.
If she stuttered when she was six, she got over it fast. You couldn't keep this woman out of the spotlight if you paid her to do it. She started writing songs because she was married to James Taylor, until she threw him over for a punk
rocker nearly half her age who played in her band. Not much older than than Ben & Sally Taylor. "I believe in love and it's coming around again". Right. She nearly destroyed James Taylor. He would have been better off with Joni Mitchell.
do you mean kunkel who she was engaged to from 84 to 85, whos 3 years younger than her and played punk rock with jackson browne? also, she had bigger hits than druggie bitch taylor before she ever met him. the clown is a psycho who went to high school at a mental hospital and was a heroin addict from then until after she dumped his sorry, untalented ass. she would have been better off with mick jagger or warren beatty, or anyone.
@bushhater99 Amen to that. JT put on the poor, sensitive boy act pretty well, but in addition to being an addict, he was a floozy slut. When Carly was about to tell him the news that she was pregnant with their second child, he stole her thunder by revealing that he had experienced "a road accident" (i.e., picked up a sexually transmitted infection from a roadie).
It was a joke. A human joke. I do agree. The problem is that if a white person had been sitting in his seat, and said "Hey Carly, you're a mix so you got rhythem"... Mr Smiley himself would have been first in line to demand that persons head on a platter. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.. EXCEPT where racial comments are concerned. He's an IDIOT.
Fascinating conversation. I don't know of this guy, but the remark above injecting race into a place where it is utterly irrelevant (Smiley certainly isn't demonstrating it) is really pathetic. I just don't understand you people who are race-obsessed. BTW Carly is gorgeous STILL
I stuttered as a child, too, and can completely relate to what both Carly and Tavis are saying. I overcame my stuttering in a way that has much in common with what both Carly and Tavis describe. The sad goofball who's trying to bring his weird racial projections into this is way, way off base. Actually listen to what Tavis is saying - I find it very moving.
When are people going to understand that true unity comes from embracing diversity not shoving it under the rug? If anything Tavis is enamoured of her. He readily admits to following James Taylor around like a groupie. This appreciation of music from diverse prospectives is indicative of a man who reverses harmony in larger sense, between people.
Sharing ones life and culture is an act of love not ire especially given the likelihood that it will be misunderstood by angry bigots like...
Poor Carly had to sit through yet another one of Smiley's silly racial diatribes. MLK helped overcome his stuttering. Yeah, right - sounds like total b.s. I happened to see Smiley on a news progam on PBS about 10 years ago and he said his stated purpose in getting involved in entertainment was to "bring black consciousness" to white America. He is an angry, bitter, black-power partisan who will righteously admit his racial biases. Only like-minded blacks and left-media types can tolerate him.
It's not so much that your comment is racially or culturally biased as much as irrelevant and misdirected. Simon came from an interracial family and thus they used their common heritage as a conversational stepping stone...also, who's to say that Smiley didn't indeed emulate Dr. King to overcome his stammering? Isn't it just slightly possible that he wasn't inciting but just sharing an actual, undistorted tidbit of his personal life to the audience?
That was a great interview. Out of all her promotional appearances for her new "This Kind Of Love" album, this one has been my favorite. Someone should upload the hole interview. Thanks for saring!
I'm in college and I stutter, and it can really be tough.

@AnnaLeePechak She asked him for his story, he wasn't trying to one up her at all. It's called having a conversation.

@bookkeeper57 yeah, but it would have been hard to be married to a man who was addicted to heroin.

@bookkeeper57 Really? Joni Mitchell to me probably would have used James Taylor as an ashtray

I had always heard that Carly had stage fright. I guess this sort of explains why. I sure love her music!
