  • These are my top 5 of all time 6 or more seasons.modern baseball with E.R.A.s under 2.00 for a handful of seasons.

    Koufax,seaver,maddox,martinez,johnson.

  • If you look at previous HOFer's and see what hat they wore into the hall...Maddux will have a red and blue cap with a big A on it.

  • He was great and fun to watch. The consummate pitcher.

  • maddux will go into hall of fame as a chicago cub!!!!

  • @jtmoney1974 If you think he will go into the HOF as a cub than you need your head examine......Braves is assured to have 3 pitchers in the HOF with 'A' on their cap

  • Maddux's 3.27 postseason ERA in 198 innings is actually among the very best among postseason starters since 1985. Among pitchers with over 90 innings of postseason work since about 1985, only Smoltz (2.65) and Schilling (2.23) have better ERAs (Beckett does have 2.90 in 87 innings). That includes all the big names. So, 3.27 in Maddux's ERA is in reality very, very good,as Smoltz and Schilling are more exceptions even among the best pitchers of this era.

  • His astonishing streak of 17 straight seasons with 15 or more wins at a time when the average major league starter is proud of one 15-win season, combined with his run from 1992-1998, when, during a decidedly hitter's era, he had six years with an ERA of 2.36 or under, and a seventh (1996) at 2.72, qualify him as perhaps the best baseball player of all-time at any position, in my humble opinion. Add to that his 355 wins and his 1994 and 95 performances, and I think a good case can be made.

  • Maddux is my favorite player of all time, with Johnny Bench and Dale Murphy following a very close 2nd and 3rd.

There's not enough of George Steinbrenner's money to spend to buy the caliber of player that Greg was. I don't think I ever recall seeing Greg mouth off to another player or throw at a batter intentionally. The only thing I remember is the 1995 World Series when he tried to brush Albert Belle off the plate and Albert glared at Greg, while Greg just gave a sheepish grin.

  • No offense.....Maddux will go in as a Braves in the HOF. Cubs fan he did have 5 of his first 6 years were good, his run in Atlanta was the greatest in modern day history. Can't wait til July 17, 2009, Braves HOF luncheon and induction ceremony, plus the first of the BIG THREE to have his number retired. Cubs retired his number to make up for him leaving in 1992, after taking him for granted.

  • One more win than Clemens. And without steroids, I might add. If he had just average run support during his career, he would be upwards of 400 wins. You're my idol, Greg!

  • If Maddux is a unamious (I can't spell) first ballot hall of famer, then the system is a joke. The guy DOMINATED the 90's when everybody was roided out of their ass. 18 gold gloves. 4200 innings pitched, under 1000 walks! Somebody tell me different. Who is the next Maddux??

  • not sure i understand you - he should be unanimous? sadly 94-95 were his peak years but also strike years, if you extrapolate the rest of those seasons he would have had a greater 4 year stretch than koufax, who is known to have had the best 4 year stretch...

I guess unanimous means no number one votes for anyone else... but they can vote for others...

  • oh go fuck urself

  • Ese fue mi heroe el profesor.

Yo soy el fanatico numero uno del mundo de greg maddux.

  • It's a shame that the Braves couldn't capitalize on the pitching staff they had back then. Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery...I mean cmon. There isnt a staff today that could touch that. SHOULD have won 3 or 4 Series. But...oh well.

  • I agree, especially the 96 world series against the Yankees. The Braves were clearly the better team. They let it get away.

  • Terrible offense! They were a HR or nothing team and that really cost them, especially in '96.......I hear people refer to Maddux"s 11-14 postseason record and say he wasn't money like Clemens, Unit, Pedro, Schilling. Ridiculous! A 3.27 postseason ERA (even with the bad 1st start against the Giants in '89) and a 2.09 ERA in the World Series proves the point that this guy played on a good team that lacked offense.

  • He's my boring hero. Go Maddog. Enjoy your retirement.

  • Greg Maddux is one of the best pitchers of all time, and he won without steroids. I watched him play for over 15 years, and will miss his incredible control of the ball. We`ll miss ya Mad Dog.

  • Amen

  • speaking for Met's fans everywhere... GOOD RIDDANCE!!! go enjoy your retirement... jesus, 18 fucking gold gloves? who the hell had 18? you couldn't even bunt on this nerd... i gonna wear my Met's jersey and boooo...

  • Maddux,Glavine, and Smoltz, what a run they had with the Braves! We'll never see a pitching staff like that again! Them were great times!!

  • dats da 09 yankees wit sabathia, wang, and possibly derek lowe or pettite or chamberlain

  • sabathia, wang, lowe, pettite, and chamberlain? Let me know when they get 300 wins!!

  • pettite will get 300, retard

  • Pettite won't get to 250 dumbass!

  • you are completely retarted

  • Who cares about Pettite? He isn't worthy of carrying Maddux's jockstrap! Let me know when Pettite gets to 250. Maddux is at 355!

  • your a stupid ass yankee fanboy .

  • Pettitte will not get 300. He needs 77 to get there. That is 19 a year for the next 4 years. Not going to happen. He is already 37.

  • @Gomez55555555 I thought Pettite would get 260 wins but looks like that fell short.....sorry for your guy not getting 300.

  • David can't spell. Learn English.

  • let's face it, he took the game of baseball to a higher level. and did it all supposedly, allegedly, without PEDs

  • The professor

  • I still have his baseball card from 1990. He had an awesome career.

  • haha... nice comment upabittoolate. :)

    Greg Maddux is the best!

  • baddest ace you'd ever want. no wonder the cubs didn't want him

  • first ballot hall of famer

  • with a bullet. if it's not unanimous, someone is being a player-hater

  • there is some guy that they had on espn that says he will never vote for anyone on the first ballot which is horseshit but he definitely should be first ballot

  • hahaha

  • wow!
