@TheGreatDefective His shirt is covered with blood because he is supposed to be 'the White Horseman', one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (i.e. the movie is a modern interpretation of the events in the Book of Revelations, so all the characters in the film relate to that, wherein the White Horseman is described as wearing a pale robe flecked with blood). I suspect the pattern of the blood mimicking that of the blood pattern seen in Donnie Darko is just to 'mess with your head' a bit.

@MagicalCatSack no it is simplly a reference to the accident that scarred up his face. taverner wounded hm with a grenade while the were in the army under the influence of the drug. the scars ruined his looks, ending the characters career as a star. the blood is just a blood pattern from the wound. trying to read too much symbolism is kind of pointless cause the writer/director was throwing junk in just to disguise the fact he had no idea where to go with the story. its a mess,
