@Maribo33 i use to here some of her songs but i must tell you it is quite refreshing to hear her again she is certainly at the top of her game even in death.her singing really touch me.i use to play her rendition of nearer my god to thee but i am not seeing it on youtube anymore that one move me spiritually it was masterly done by her.
This is gorgeous! Check out her other song, entitled, "Didn't It Rain" on I tunes or youtube. It'll help you get ready for Jesus! He's just about ready to call us Home! Maranatha! (Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!)
remember my mother who asked,as she knew she was dying, that this song, sang by Mahalia were to be played at her funeral...and so it was..10 years ago <3
Just GORGEOUS.......I was truly humbled in Gods presence when I listened to this all my sins ever before me....I was truly touched and had a Special moment with God as I listened to this.....Thank you for posting.....Blessed Love.....
SUCH a poetic song and Mahalia's interpretation..... All of the problems this earth experiences this song lets me know that as long as God abides..... I will be okay from birth to death. With God, life has meaning!!!!!!!!
I had the fine luck to be born in the south and so I got to grow up surrounded by music like this. Right now I'm away from the south for school, but I listen to Mahalia Jackson and I can feel the sun and the land and the rivers and the warmth and the grace of God so powerfully. There's no substitute for it.
This song is the only thing that has helped me deal with my mom's stroke, her death and my duties as Estate Executor. THANK YOU for posting this version, Ms. Jackson does INDEED OWN this song!!!
Oh how my heart longs for a day when we can all live in peace. I cant wait tell Jesus returns never will we be segregated again. For we are all one with the father who truly loves us. I cant wait to meet MS Jackson.
Dear Marie: I just had to stop in and watch/listen to this again. This is such an artistic piece of video Marie. Powerful black and white photos, and well Mahalia's voice. . . . . . what else needs to be said about that. Like I told you before, if anyone sees/hears this and doesn't feel something. . . . "check your pulse, you are DEAD!" This video reminds me that I need to get back to the "Big Easy" one of these days. New Orleans is one of a kind! FIVE STARS Marie Mike
Thank you so much posting this wonderful song, its my fav hymn, i want this to be played when i go home to be with jesus.
I live and work in middle east where its hard to hear and sing hymns like these, i find comfort and solace when i listen to songs like these, i lived 33 years of my life in sin, until i found jesus just seven months ago, and he has been so good to be ever since, so brothers and sisters in christ if you have tried everything why not try jesus.
This was my Grandmother's favourite hymn from years ago, it hard not to think of her when I hear it. Such a beautiful hymn, such a comfort to know God lives with us. Thanks for posting.
Mahalia was unique for sure. There will never be another one like her. Her voice as shown here showcases her at her best. She had a gift, and those are rare. Her talent was exceptional. . . it went beyond all expectations of the human voice and reached beyond anything we could ever have imagined.
This is so moving and beautiful. There will NEVER be another Mahalia! If after watching and listening to this you don't feel "something", check your pulse. . . . . . . you are DEAD! Just beautiful Marie!
Thank you so much for sharing this very beautiful song with us on YouTube, I enjoyed her singing very much, especially because I played this song on my chromatic Harmonica myself. I can recommand you to listen to this song and my playing on our channel chrismayka.
Thanks for listening ofcourse!!

I bend my knee before Mahalia, it is one of my completely big idols.
It touches me very much that she sings this hymn as a real child New Orleans. Dear Marie, you have selected very impressive pictures. I thank to you. 5 ***** from me. Uli
Marie, what a beautiful tribute to the City of New Orleans; I enjoyed hearing the great Mahalia Jackson sing the old hymn "Abide With Me". Very moving my friend. I spent a week in New Orleans the summer prior to Katrina. There is no place like it on the planet - The people, the food, the architecture, the wonderful music, the atmosphere - all just wonderful. Thanks for your video honoring the "Big Easy" and for remembering this great city all the way from Germany. God bless you! Mike
