And you cant equate a masters + two 500 events to missing a slam because 500 events are not mandatory.

And I don't think that Roddick will advance to the top 4 and be able to hold his position. If Djokovic happens to find his form again, then It'll be tough on Roddick to get back to the top 4. As reefric said, he's a often a bit too conservative. He should play more like the way he played against Federer at the Masters Cup in 2006. Very aggressive, almost landed a win.

There is a certain degree of anti-American sentiment among some of the tennis public, some are put off by Roddick's antics with umpires, and some think his style of play is boring; this could be where the faction you're referring to comes from.
