Fucking Alvin Lee stills raises my blood pressure at 61. Back in the 60's I was totally in love with Alvin and his guitar! Where he went?...wish i knew, but he still rocks my world!!!!!
@harblues66 --- my pleasure. I only recently rediscovered Alvin. and i have been all Alvin Lee all day and all night. So much cool music to catch up on. (not to mention his overwhelming sex appeal). It is a sheer delight and an incredible ride.
Ha ha ha ha, LOL, what the fuk have I been missing ! Yaaaaaa, Whoooooooooooha. he's smokeing the fuk outa that guitar !!! Thanks so much for posting !!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa up ! up !! Its freakin flawless, flawless !!!!
I thought i was so cool at 14 with my alphie on groovin to Ten Years After.Alvin Lee is and was a very learned, knowledgeable and much touted guitarist and for good reason. I wish I could play the electric guitar like him. God Bless Alvin Lee and his band members. --bzzzzmeister--
I got lucky. Went to see TYA in Long Beach around 79 I think it was. no tickets. Nuthin. I got in. I ended up 1st row. Right in front of Alvin Lee. I have no idea how I got down there. But I was leaning up against the stage right in front of Lee when he played this. He tossed m his pick. I reached for it, it bounced out of the palm of my hand. There were so many people scrambling for it, I didn't even try. Lee just looked at me and shook his head. sad, but true. But I'll tell you what, unreal!
Incredible! always loved this performance. Remember dancing like a nutter with my mates for full 11 odd minutes and then collapsing. How can anyone dislike this, 4 people have opinions and assholes but little else.
@1958fanman I was a little older @ 17 Always been a HUGE Fan of TYA & they are still going strong today, Alvin still plays extremely well & looks half his age, a really Amazing guy.
Anyone who knows rock would have to put this up in the top ten greatest rock songs ever and I don't mean that top 100 crap who someone no one knows votes for every year, I mean ROCK, real Rock.
Alvin Lee and his band Ten Years After were one of the top hit bands on the The Festival of WoodStock, together together with the Fest will remain remarkable 4-ever.
@IdaGno ...some would argue with that, putting Hendrix's wake up call 8/15/69, can you imagine, getting a top bill, at the top concert, ya come on stage, and the crowd had shrunk by...at least...80%, looks like the remaining crowd could fit in LB Arena!! I wonder if THAT crowd felt like I did, listening to Frank Marino & MR taking stage at Ontario Motor Speedway...or...was it Devore...got any Alvin Lee/Frank Marino duo's?
Apparently while recording this the Drum Microphone broke so they had to add alternative Drums to the track later. Corky Laing (of Mountain) was Commissioned to do the job so the drumming you hear is not by Ric Lee of Ten Years After.
Rolling Stone Magazine never put him in the list of the 100 better guitar man in Rock & Roll history , with this performance nobody can denied he is one of the best .
At age 62, I grew up in the '60s, listening to the great guitarists of that era, and into the '70s. All of the legendary players were great, but none better, in my view, than Alvin Lee. Ten Years After was as passionate, intense, on stage, as any band I've ever heard. Regretfully, Alvin Lee and his awesome band, did not get the recognition they deserved. Alvin Lee once said the problem was producing a commericial album. I'm always awed by Alvin Lee, live. Incredible energy! Thanks for this.
No matter how many times I watch this video its always just ad amazing as the first. God how I love the golden piece of footage. You can just see the love for the music in Alvin Lee's face. I remember my dad showing this to me on VHS when I was just a small child
@cstakolich -- I do listen to it every single day. Ok, honestly, I listen to it at least 5 times a day and when I am away from the computer, I find myself craving more Alvin. OMG.
Once was so blue, that I kept on dancing to this music over and over again with the volume to worp 7, until I was so exhausted that I almost got sick...than felt better...thanx Alvin
when did the music die ..............thank heaven for wolfmother and acdc only thing left withe a soundwall would have loved to be at woodstock the bear, teen ,jimmy, jefferson, crist i was born just acouple of decs to late love this
I listen to this song all the time. Even though he (Alvin) recorded mostly the blues, ""I'm going home" at Woodstock is the best performance ever of anybody. He tops Janis and Jimi at Woodstock, even though they were perfect.
I was right under the stage girls were dancing topless, what a scene. It was the last night and at 13 yrs of age I had to walk/hitch home. Great performance.
i'll say it agaain!.......this is how chuck berry would sound if he did crystal speed instead of jack daniels..........this boy a MTRFKER! my boy got the blues skattin' goin on........god bless rock'n roll.......i was just 10 yrs' old but i heard it comin' from the other room where the big kids were hanging & doin what?..........
