How have Bush's tax cuts worked for the last 8 years? We had a very low rate of adding jobs all during the Bush years, that is, lower than during Clinton's eight years. We had one of the worst Wall Street collapses in our nation's history, and the highest rate of growth of our debt. We lost manufacturing jobs while investors played weird games with "derivatives" and other financial "products." I think reality puts a dent in your theory that lowering taxes strengthens the economy.

The recession was caused by the burst of the housing bubble. Banks were getting rich bundling mortgages and selling them to investors. When the bubble burst (and remember when a simple ranch house was $300,000?) because it was unsustainable, the banking system collapsed. Be fair, the recession wasn't caused by Obama's policies.

I think investors are sitting on their money because they are waiting to see what will happen, they are cautious. It doesn't help that Republicans are running down the administration, trumpeting bad news, lowering confidence in recovery. A big part of economic recovery is psychological, but Republicans are sowing fear and anxiety, in order to win votes.

The BP spill has been a disaster for the fishing industry. Another spill could destroy the Gulf. Think it couldn't happen again. Yeah, people thought the levees would hold too, and they didn't. Obama is right: take the time to the inspect other rigs and their emergency plans.

How have Bush's tax cuts worked for the last 8 years? We had a very low rate of adding jobs all during the Bush years, that is, lower than during Clinton's eight years. We had one of the worst Wall Street collapses in our nation's history, and the highest rate of growth of our debt. We lost manufacturing jobs while investors played weird games with "derivatives" and other financial "products." I think reality puts a dent in your theory that lowering taxes strengthens the economy.

We need to raise taxes on the wealthiest to pay down the enormous debt created by Bush's borrowing to finance two wars and a drug prescription law. The tax cuts under Bush combined with Republican spending created a huge deficit. It time to pay the piper, and unfortunately, it falls to Obama to let the tax cuts on the richest expire.

@TAMARLANE When Bush came into office we had a federal surplus. Bush cut taxes, then spent money invading Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a huge deficit now. Do you know who Warren Buffet is? He's the richest man in America. He wants the tax cuts to expire so we can pay down our federal debt. Lowering taxes on the wealthiest has never created jobs. If it did, Bush wouldn't have left office with the deepest recession the country has experienced.

Pelosi, Reid and Obama want tax increases for the most successful Americans making more than $200,000 a year, with additional hikes on capital gains and dividend taxes for everyone. They conveniently forget that there is no such thing as a tax on the "wealthy." Such individuals simply stop spending or move their assets to tax sheltered investments. If Pelosi-Reid-Obama get their way, they could trigger a deep depression.

Remember the nineties, when our economy was adding jobs? That tax rate. The Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest are a failed experiment. They did not grow our economy, as promised. Look at the facts, not what you want to believe.

@ademeyer Democrats are considering a plan to delay tax increases on the wealthy for 2 years because the economic recovery is slow, and they fear getting crushed in November's election. These are the same people who have been saying since '08 that the Bush tax cuts are what got us in this mess, and now they want to preserve 'em for two more years? And now the tax cuts are gonna get us out of the mess? It could mean a big reprieve for families earning $250,000 and above annually.

Most new jobs, especially for people without bankable college degrees come from small businesses. Successful small businesses (they are the ones able to hire after all) generally earn over $250,000 per year. Increasing their taxes is taking money they could use to expand and hire. That's economics 101. Obama and his kind are stuck in their "punish the successful" and "redistribute weath" ideology. Fine. Rational investors like myself will stay on the sidelines.

@VictoryCough In all fairness, The recession was not caused by Obama and Congresses "good intentions." The recession was in full swing when Obama took office. The recession was caused by the burst of the housing bubble. Banks were getting rich bundling mortgages and selling them to investors. When the bubble burst (and remember when a simple ranch house was $300,000?) because it was unsustainable, the banking system collapsed. Be fair, the recession wasn't caused by Obama's policies.

Whether it is an internet bubble or housing bubble, venture capitalists need a huge increase in credit to invest. Obama disagrees with irrelevant details of the same economic theory, that spending and paying people to rebuild roads or schools will somehow create wealth in this country. He is only reinflating the bubble

I think investors are sitting on their money because they are waiting to see what will happen, they are cautious. It doesn't help that Republicans are running down the administration, trumpeting bad news, lowering confidence in recovery. A big part of economic recovery is psychological, but Republicans are sowing fear and anxiety, in order to win votes.

The auto bailout went better than anyone planned, (they've already paid back most of the money) and thousands of jobs were saved. If you don't like the banks being saved talk to George W.
