  • I've had a thing for Persia White ever since I saw her in the movie Blood Dolls about 10 years ago. I love how raw her voice gets on certain sounds XEO3 did like Marry me, and Numb. I like her solo stuff too.

  • he voice is like a mix of miss dynamite and nelly futardo[sorry i cant spell lol] i like it

  • She's my Black Bjork.

  • It's always interesting to hear different people's interpretation if "Strange Fruit." God Bless Billie Holiday for her observation

  • she makes me feel better about being Black and being a bit of a goth. Thanks Persia.

  • Damn I love this girl especially when she was in the show girlfriends she is so hot :)

  • love it

  • Wow I've tried locating this version for downloading and I've come up with nothing. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. I've tried itunes etc. my ipod is dying to have this song

  • I love this version of the song... it's so powerful and creative

  • amazing wow

  • classic Billie Holiday remake :)

  • Love her version!

  • Strange but I like it.

  • is she really tryin 2 b sexy while singin this?! she needs 2 get bk 2 basics-nasty

  • Her album is available on iTunes as well. I just bought it today. :)))

  • I LOVE her dark style.

  • It is a remake of Billy Holiday's strange fruit, talking about the hangings of people in the south...............

  • one owrd enchanting

  • so beautiful

  • How the hell do you know where you're going unless you know where you've been???" And that means ALL of us!!!! Good job Portia. : )

  • I love this.

  • This song is not satanic

    its about racial oppression

it was original sung by Billie Holiday

    when she sings:

"...Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,

Black body swinging in the Southern breeze..."

She is singing about the fact that black slaves where lynched and hung on trees ,whenever they searched for freedom. Superficial people never search for the deeper meanings of the lyrics they listen to, and instead are quick to negatively label Persia, just because she sings rock

    :/

  • @EpitaphN1 The song's not about slaves. I was to protest all the lynchings that were happening at the time in the south.

  • @EpitaphN1 Mostly correct. Lynchings to a large degree happened in the south well after slavery. Indeed, it was bad business to kill your slaves. Lynching was sour grapes terror tactics performed by the KKK and others from fear that blacks would get "courage and revenge" for the past. Anyway, the USA is different than then.

  • Wow I dodn't know she could sing like that. I like her version of strange fruit, its unique, a little dark but the lyrics of the song are sad anyway so she made this fit. Cool...

  • Stop starin' at my wifey, y'all!

  • I'm a black man but I feel that biracial people should be seen as a separate race.

  • @Thedarksecret1 Why? Unless you stepped right off a plane from Africa (and maybe still not even) you have white heritage and blood in you somewhere down the line. Just because biracial people have mixing in their more immediate family doesn't make them need to have a separate race. What do you consider Obama? The first African America President of the United States, rarely is he referred to as the first biracial President. Black is beautiful, all variations of it.

  • @prettygrey You seem a little insecure.

  • @Thedarksecret1 Since when is sharing my opinion, which happens to differ from yours, come off as being insecure? I'm sorry, I missed that altogether. Nothing personal, I just don't agree with the statement you made, no need for you to attack me personally by saying I'm insecure. Damn, can't we all just get along?

    Just sayin'.

  • Love this song. Video is bad ass.

  • does anyone know whwere i can get the trip hop stuff the persia did in "girlfriends"?? i just LOVE it. please pm me if u can help.

  • @amylee1986 she released an album called mecca, its avaible on amazon.com

  • Strange fruit was a song originally done by Billy Holiday to describe lynchings in the South. Strange fruit represents African American bodies hanging from trees because of the racist of that time. It was a common thing in the south during that era. I am curious about the reasons why Persia White would redo a song like this. It has no contemporary meaning surely not in the video. It is sad that most people commenting here have never even heard of Billy Holiday.

  • @Askadinya it doesn't have anything to do with the current era, however it does portray a really powerful image of the past. the lyrics are alluring in a dark, poetic way. people who don't know the song and its meaning will see it as just an abstract tune, but still i think anyone whos a fan of music with meaning can appreciate it.

  • @Askadinya I caught the reference when I heard the lyric "Strange fruit hanging from the poplar tree". It's sad how people miss out on shit like that but as MF Doom said, "Study your history, who ever don't I pity you like Mr. T"

  • VERY trip-hop kinda vibe = I <3 this song and I <3 Persia White!!

  • I love this song and I like what she did with it. Change the tempo but kept the vibe.

Much love Ms. Persia White <3

  • I've heard this song somewhere else before, so I guess this is a remix, the lyrics are so sad

  • it's originally a billie holiday song

  • I knew I had it heard it before, thanks

  • thnx SumKindaWndrful...its so funny how we can quote the bible word for word n not kno anything about the true message of god. who is 2 say the same judgements we have about sum 1 we think worships the devil, werent the gounds 4 wich blacks were lynched. cuz sumone wheres black they deserve 2 b lynched sounds alot like cuz sum 1 is black they deserve 2 b lynched. read other books besides a bible n maybe you will learn the tru message of god is love not hate or judgment. learn from history

  • Uhm... before anyone else post ridiculous comments, this song is a REMAKE of Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit. It has nothing to do with satan unless you consider what drove LYNCHERS to act horrendously towards black people. It is a song about LYNCHING and Persia White captures the anguish it should cause anyone when thinking about what took place with the imagery in the video.

  • I don't want to be in Gods grace and mercy for the sake of continuouslly falling to sin, but to serve him in this time of grace he has allowed me to partake in. True there are many facts in the past, but there is only one truth, one light. Facts are the mere shadows of the Truth, which is Christ Jesus. Give God a chance and he'll reveal himself to you.

  • I won't say she is a satanic worshiper, because I would be juding her. But what I can discern that the Bible speaks of light and dark and shadows will not be in Heaven. Furthermore, God says acknowledge me in all your ways, so in the songs you compose someone should potentially get saved from it. So if it's not acknowledgeing God it's idle talk and what you could be idling like for instant skateboards...someone lost could see a skateboard as their God. Songs must have purpose.

  • if she is a satan worshipper then she is a fierce one!!!

    she is gorgoeous and

    her song is unique!

    je t'aime♥

  • raulrocks hit the nail on the proverbial head! Persia's rendition is extremely thought provoking and quite good. i think lady day would be proud! the HORROR of lynching and that STENCH is felt. thanks, for those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it!

  • freaking wierd thought she was hot at one point ..come to find out shes just another wierdo ..and if i was Saul Williams i wouldve fucked her and kept it moving>>Damm hate the song makes her seem so fucking Crazy

  • i use to love her but after all ,shez just another fucking wierdo i guess that s the bull shit that comes with the money !! and if i was saul williams i wouldve fucked her and kept it moving ya Digg!!!!

  • Wow, ignorance at it's best. I love Persia White and this rendition of the song. Considering the dark topic, I think it's a very appropriate arrangement of it. Maybe if people knew what the song was really about they wouldn't ask questions like that. Look it up.

  • @HotLadyRed wow...she does not worship satan. You don't even know what she's talking about...because of the way it's composed and because it has a darker sound you automatically associate her with Satan. It''s called freedom of expression whether it's dark or bright.

  • This could be true...I don't know...cuz I don't know her..But I still want my question to be answer Yes or No. from some one who's done their HomeWork. But YES you are Right. Dark or Bright.

  • Like I said..NO

  • thats wat im thinking

  • Right! but to each his own..this was posted over a month ago..I been sleeping good! I hope she is not a friend of satan...but she do things that's just off...but okay..

  • @HotLadyRed "but she do things that's just off"? Persia White: Actress, musician, human, and animal rights advocate? really? aside from highly recommending you learn how to speak proper English, i'd REALLY implore you to look at the stats of someone before you make baseless claims about what people do. i know you religious types and "tolerance" don't go particularly well, but it would make you look a lot less silly in situations like this. just a tip. LoL

  • @HotLadyRed This song is about an era, where "good" catholics used to hang people on poplar trees...so yes it is a bit off

  • idk...thiz iz prolly gonna sound krazii but...her voice kindda reminded me of alice smithz! i think she did g good job on thiz song!

  • i love Persia she's got a great voice

    and this song is sick

  • omg!!! this is an incredible artist... people who only know her as Lynn from "girlfriends" should check this part of Persia out!!

  • yeh lynn always gave me a MASSIVE hard on

  • i effin love her. Amazing !

  • she sounds almost billie holiday in this

  • That was amazing. Was that Roy Gnan on piano? Is this XEO3 or Persia solo? I'm confused.

  • Fucking beautiful.

  • i fuckin luv her, shes awesome!>:D

  • i love the Bjorklike,Portisheady,Fiona Applish with hints of Morcheeba charm to her blend of Jazz and TripHop..makes for a very dark, yet unmistakebly seductive atmosphere..definitely not music to merely fuck to,you make slow, passionate love to this stuff..would make a great wind down track for the end of an afterparty..just pop a xanax, smoke a blunt and wait for the last kicks of the party drugs to pass as you drift off to the slightly less tangable dreamscape behind your eyelids!!

  • you painted that picture so well..and for a brief second i was there..and felt that..

and it created a strange high..

    thank you

  • the song brought that imagery to my minds eye,it was my duty to share it with yours...thankyou for reading me as i portrayed,as most usually try to pick me apart when i wax philosophical in front of their trolling eyes...but every once in a while, the right eyes cross my words and make the typing worthwhile!thankyou for being!XD

  • damn she really is beautiful i love her eyes and her lips especially at 0.55 -1:06 she looks insanley beautiful and at 2:29 u those eyes oh man well she beautiful period through the whole damn video but those my favorite parts!

  • she is so beautiful!

  • this is intensely amazing, sounds like the Bristol trip hop scene her ein UK, like tricky and portishead and that. really good.
