No it's not why would be shifting on an automatic that's just stupid your hurting your engine....and might as well get a stick shift its cheaper and it has the shift boot...
@pedonda92 As long as you don't abuse it, self-shifting an auto will only cut down on fuel economy. You watch the tach and shift before the revs get too high, this is no different than what the "S" setting on a non-DSG Audi sport-automatic does. FYI, the auto tranny in the 7th gen Accord is the same one used in the Acura TL with the sport-shift auto,,,,,so I'm not really doing anything the tranny can't handle.
@Drewrob26 It's true that you don't HAVE TO shift since it is an automatic, however, that dosen't mean you can't. Shifting manually uses more gas, but allows you to stay in a gear longer for that extra pull (can also use engine braking if done with care).
@macuser575 You need to be careful, but you can shift an auto. Even before all the fancy DSG gear boxes came out, you may remember quite a few automatic cars had a side gate for the shifter with a "+" & "-" which allowed you to step up/down 1 gear with every tap. That setup made it easier to self-shift, but the tranny was really no different from a regular auto.
@moeandbianca1 Well, anything you do that changes your car from total stock "could" be something that the dealer "might" try to use as a reason to negate your warranty; however, they have to prove that it is the reason your car isn't working correctly. Bottomline: if you do this, take care while doing it, but it's still a lower risk project.
@howelldakis If you use a shiftknob that requires you to push down the whole knob to switch gears,,you are going to push down the boot some,,,,,and hence have a little bit of shaft exposed (oh yeah,,,it's very easy to by pass the lock-out safety and end up in "R" or "P" with those; so I'd stick with something that has a trigger or button). I've heard rumors that the RDX knob works (even if it looks a little too much like a willy head,, lol).
This is interesting. It looks nice, but it seems like it might interfere a little with selecting a gear and making sure it's firmly in that gear. Even putting it in park could be tricky. Not sure if you know how to drive a manual or if you couldn't find a 6 speed manual with the V6 at that time, but it would have come with the boot then! Enjoy!!
@Vaibes Did you mean to say "I don't have the money to swap my TRANSMISSION" (if so, I understand, that is WAY expensive)? Anyways, as far as the guide goes, the only tricky part is grinding down the rear portion of the shift channel and adjusting the tautness of the boot (between the connections points at the boot's base and collar). Also remember not to scuff your center council while you work.
@Vaibes A key factor on this upgrade is the frame (bazel) surrounding you gear selector; on the 03-07 Accord, it's basicaly the same between the auto and manual, so the install is like throwing up a tent and staking it down. If your shifter remodels the extension of your center console,,,,,then it may be very difficult to secure&tuck the boot. If the above is not a problem: get the OEM shiftboot for your car, and reuse your auto's shift knob.
@s3an831 Nooooo, "D" is for getting the best overall shift points. Unlike the the Audi's and their "S" mode, the Accord will not go till redline before shifting. Sooo, by holding the car in "1" until it reaches higher revs, then allowing the boot to take the shifter into "2", you are able to keep the car in lower gear longer (where the most torque can be had,,,,and remember, this is a Honda,,so I'll take any extra torque I can find).
@Zenkchi99 Errrrrrgh, because I have an automatic and I don't feel like buying a whole new car (even more so now that jobs can go at anytime) just to have a quicker 0-60mph.
When I looked into getting the 6-speed version of my car, the very few that were even for sale had price-tags in Acura TL range (what supply&demand will do to a price).
@HalfBreedMix Fair Enough. But I don't see manual as a quicker 0-60 but just as a better driving experience all round. I had to drive an automatic Toyota Prius for four months at work and it's just so boring! But then again the USA is a pretty big place so if your car is a means of travelling long distance I can see the perks of an auto-box.
@Zenkchi99 Yeah, the Prius isn't the ticket to thrills in most any department.
My automatic is pretty spunky (even more so after the computer "learns" your driving habits). Actually most modern automatics, that are in "sportier" cars, can really surprise you if you play with them. Side by side, the stick will be able to out perform the auto (in most cases,,,,however, not all), but during "real life, day-to-day" you really won't be missing anything.
@HalfBreedMix yeah, yeah, yeah,,,my model car doesn't have i-VTEC,,,,but still, I don't think the computer is just sleeping. Maybe I'm just getting better at meshing with my car,,,whatever,,,,zoom-zoom-yay-fun!
@QBKING786 The bottom part of the shift "stalk" is just a plastic tube (square'ish) that goes around the metal shaft,,,,so once you got the boot on there, you don't need anything else to "hide" the metal shaft.
@sexybear314 Type in" '03-'07 Honda Accord" in ebay motors -parts and accessories-. The boot I got was an OEM boot that some guy was selling (probably a dealer trying to off-load a few inventory items).
I'd be careful if you get something third party; as always with ebay, you know the drill.

Probably "vibrating" because I'm holding the camera with one hand while trying to operate with the other. Or maybe I was just happy, and if so, yay for me, it's hard to get happy now-a-days ;-)
I see well that makes sense,I didnt know that about your transmission well sorry then but yea it does look way better
