@MixedMami2187, It has to do with gangsta respect. Carlito insulted and ridiculed Benny in front of his gang and woman then they beat him up and threw him out of the club. I would imagine he was in a homicidal rage at that point....When he shot Carlito he wanted to make sure he remembered who he was before he shot him. In that moment Carlito likely had two regrets: One, insulting the guy for no reason and two, allowing him to live after what he did to him. Both turned into fatal errors.....

There seems to be alot of argument about the message this film sends about crime. To me it says that crime dosent pay that the risks far outweigh the benefits. Carlito is unique because hes survived alot longer than he should have. Most of them die suddenly over the money Carlito's just been luck, he said himself stretched out in Fernado's funeral parlour but a whole lot later than alot of people thought.
