  • It's a good thing I have the lens and protector from our old Sony- I had no idea that the Fresnel lens was so useful for heat, I'll have to start putting a box together. It could be used for all kinds of things, maybe even a clumsy form of welding, if everything is placed correctly!

  • Wow that is amazing! Thanks for the info.

I plan on looking at your other videos and website info as soon as I can. In the meantime, can you tell me if there would be any similar uses for a non-working HDTV that is not rear projection? We have one we were going to get rid of soon.

  • @berrie34 Hey good question. I have been resourceing it and it looks like some have a variation of a fresnel lens that projects light to the tree color screens. I say it your just going to get rid of the TV open it up and see whats inside and what you can use. It will have ether a liquid crystal lens or a fresnel lens.

  • Son of a bitch. You know, my parents just threw out an old projection TV. Taking the lens out didn't even cross my mind.

    Won't make that mistake again.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • If you use a fresnel lens to focus sunlight, be SURE to use eye protection! That's in addition to handling heated materials with care. Temperatures generated can approach the low thousands of degrees at the focal point. Great find! =^[.]^=
