  • You should buy the Flux Capacitor as well, it will save you a lot of time.

  • if you skip through you can see how much the board is bending from the heat, is this good?

  • whitch layer does the flux go down in the bottom layer or the top bga layer??

  • if you go to 2:50 then skip to 3;34 you can see his motherboard warp a little bit.....

  • Don't like your Method it's a really sloppy job and looks like it will only last you a few day or weeks if lucky ... But you do got one thing right which is the thermal paste artic silver is the way too goo and the heat gun should be set to 700 degrees plus you only warm up the board evenly on each side and the CPU and the gpu you have to keep both warmed up to about 30 sec each ! Then set for 25 to 30 min DO NOT BUMP OR TOUCH !!! & then apply thermal paste ..

  • Did you do this before or after ylod?

  • You people should be prosecuted for fraud.

  • Oh my god this is worst thing you could do. People do not do this. When these goes bad again it makes it harder for real tech to repair these the flux eats up the boards. People stop trying to be cheap find a reballer get it fixed right the first time where the system will last you atleast a few more years. Not months. I get these all the time. It makes it harder on real professional.

  • lol at 1:53

  • have you noticed that the board started bending when getting hot?

  • Good application using the flux but you surly cooked your PCB and chips much longer than necessary good lord dude!

  • Did this reflow work? I was scrolling through the video and the Motherboard warped pretty bad

  • where do you get the flux from

  • oh yeah and afte a few minuts the ps3 dies again

  • Added a video on how some simple mod will prevent it YLOD.

    watch?v=DJ4Rru0SEyk

  • you are doing it wrong man...

jump from 3:00 to 5:00 back and forth...

  • You obviously do not have the slightest clue what reballing is if you think that about it.

  • 3.) Don't use 7200RPM HDD's unless your room temp is 24 - 26c, anything over will overheat it using a HDD like that. If you have the money, grab an SSD, cool quiet and fast.

4.) Keep your room temp at around 24 - 28c anything above 30 - 40c make sure you don't game too long. (1 hour is too long.)

If room temp is 24 - 28c you can game all day/night long.

    5.) Mod it with LC.

6.) Make sure to use new Silver paste, new thermal pads and shim every 6 - 8 months.

  • @Scamwatcher

    dude

Who the fuck lives in a house that is 30-40 c??????

  • @Mihkellt Everyone living in Australia without Aircon, that's who.

  • 1.) Gap the underside using a USB cooling pad (doesn't have to be turned on.) Or even use some laptop balls. Just make sure there's breathing room underneath it.

2.) Gap the left and right by about 1 feet either side. Gap the back by about 3 feet making sure the area behind it is free of any obstructions letting air totally escape upwards.

  • Make sure to heat the entire board before you do this, otherwise you'll get excessive warping of the board itself at the GPU.

  • the toilet flush was classy

  • Heat GPU only!!!!

  • WOW man your heating up parts of the board that don't need to be heated.the only thing wrong with the PS3 is the lead free GPU, but u need to warmup the board first!!

  • sorry but adding flux is stupid. Have you even seen whats under the cpu and gpu??? Yeah theres a chip there but the flux wont get under that. Ur just wasting flux. Using the heat gun is enough

  • don't heat it up for 40 seconds, heat it up for 15 per set.

    (2 small black chips) - 15 seconds

    (vga) - 15 seconds

    (2 small black chips) - 15 seconds

    (gpu) - 15 seconds

and DO NOT TOUCH THE MOTHERBOARD FOR A GOOD 20MINUTES!

  • 2:52 5:20 check the board warping :-p.

  • very cheap way of fixing ylod, flux is essential if you want a longer lasting problem free ps3 along wid as5 or ic7 (recomended).... dont shell out £60-£70 for reballing as they will still use lead free solder balls which end up leading to ylod again coz lead free solder is crap for gaming systems etc !!!!

  • beautiful hand thx ^^

  • At may be the same shit that Sony does, but it aint what I do and just because Sony may do it don't make it a real fix. I've seen horrible heatgunners do a better job than Sony has on there warranty jobs.

  • Ok i fluxed the ps3 as a last hope.. (this is my 7th YLOD fix) took me 5 tries to get the ps3 to run Call of Duty for 12 hours non stop.... the other tries it can only run games for 10-20 mins...

It is my irst time using "No clean Flux" which i purchased on ebay and came with the (ps3 repair kit).

I will keep you updated if the flux helped the ps3 last for hours of gameplay instead of mins..

  • @schwarzegeld You've got an overheating problem. Simply gap the back and underside of the PS3 about 1 - 2 inches underside and 3 - 4 feet behind. Make sure your room temp is at 23 - 26c. If you turn it on at around 30 - 40c room temp and play a game for 10 minutes, it should get so hot the PS3 will turn itself off, since the GPU is lead free, it will melt the solder at 183c. When this happens, don't disturb the joints by moving or bumping the console. Otherwise, say hello to the YLOD again.

  • @Scamwatcher

its ok bro.. i fixed my ps3 permanently by getting an xbox :-) see you all when mw3 comes out.. on xbox live

  • @schwarzegeld Even worse move, sounds like your environment not the console. I have had one RRoD on me in 1 week FFS my nephew took the Xbox into his room and when I came back, he's like "COD4 turned off and this RED Light was flashing!" (Hes 10, didnt know better.) Got another with no time to spare (CW) and thankfully it still works (3 months running.) I do however have that one modded with Alphacool LC. But just try to remember the gapping helps both consoles prevent YLOD and RRoD.

  • @Scamwatcher

    Xbox = Win

  • @schwarzegeld PS3 and Xbox = win for me, guess I win? LOL ; )

  • I just bought my ps3 repair kit from ebay for about $5 came with the "no clean flux" thermal paste, the spreader and those plastic things to squeeze the flux into the motherboard.

  • This is a temporary fix. Looks well and good on the video because the repair has not tested against time and stress. The problem will come back very shortly. So quit misleading everyone into thinking they can fix there ps3's like this. It is far from an actual fix!

  • @Th3mast3r69 this is the exact shame shit Sony would be doing if you gave them $150.

Did you actually think they would change the motherboard for you? HAHA...how would they keep making money off of you then?

  • @Th3mast3r69 There is no perm fix. No matter what method you use, it's temporary. Reballing, IR BGA station, hair dryer, oven or heat gun. It's all still temporary because you are still using the same lead free solder. If you can get it to work with any of these methods, the most important is the thermal paste, shims, and cooling methods used to prevent rapid heat and cooling. Try to keep the PS3 or Xbox at a certain temp for its lifespan, and you'll be laughing.

  • @Th3mast3r69 Try not to get it too hot and then too cool rapidly. Let it cool down by itself, especially on hot days. I would steer clear of the heat gun and hair dryer methods, since future YL'sOD will be harder to fix. Reballing or IR BGA methods are safest since no excessive warping will occur. It's obvious if you get the YLOD once, you'll be getting it again unless you change your environment and placement of the console.

  • does it last long

  • @nickman011

    mine is still working ^.^

  • @ichi2k is it because the flux cause i only use thermal paste and it lasted about a month and it broke again

  • @ichi2k is stil working now?........please anser is importand

  • where can i find flux and what is it?

  • my ps3 is shut down wile playing, is this a cause of ylod? i have ps3 80gb 2nd gen pls reply tnx!!

  • To flux, or not to flux..? That is my question. A lot of the fixes use no flux and work. I think using the flux might make the solder flow a little too well and you may get a bridge/short somewhere?

  • NICE WORK!!! only one thing!! whata bout the therm paste??

  • what dose flux do?

  • @ballhawk210: Flux helps moisten up the solder joints to prevent oxidation when heating.

  • can i use how amtech rma 223 flux ?

  • why is fluxing important , please respond . i just need to flux and a heat gun but i need to know why is fluxing important ?

  • @blazinmoney12: Flux helps moisten up the solder joints to prevent oxidation when heating.

  • how long has it lasted you?

  • Wow look how much it warped..

  • where did you buy the flux at and how do i ask for it, is there a special name for it? thanks

  • @saneroner got mine from ebay, search for flux ps3 or flux xbox

  • @ichi2k what model ps3 is that?

  • @560287144602817 its the 60GB model which plays PS2 games.

  • if you do it yourself you can mess it up

    but sony charge £130

    i gave it to

ppc-fix.webs.com (only if you live in england)

    and i only paid £30

  • how u make a hole at bottom can u show me. thanx

  • @furqansaeed18 I just used a Dremel to cut a hole. It may not look nice but at least my PS3 is still working.

    imagebam.com/image/ac0d3a83537626/

    imagebam.com/image/122cb183537639/

  • ichi2k plz tel me is this method is perment or long lasting.. plz help me i m in a big tension....plzzzzzzz any 1 help

  • @furqansaeed18 Mine's still running fine but I did cut a hole at the bottom of the case where the fan is for better air flow

  • how long did the repair last for you? Is it still working or have you had to redo it?

  • @Jangaboo Yep its still working, I'm playing Yakuza 3 atm. But I did cut a hole at the bottom of the case directly under the fan to get better airflow.

  • @ichi2k cool, good to know 2 months after its still working

  • its pretty crazy how much the motherboard warps when you heat it up like that..if you speed up video or jump you can see its shape changing

  • @Jangaboo that's the downside to using a heatgun because you are only heating a certain part of the board, you would need to use those special ovens to stop that from happening.

  • did u clean off the BGA's before applying the paste?

  • @dmar26 When you say paste you mean flux? Anyways no I didn't.

  • @ichi2k the artic 5 silver..that u applied to the 2 big BGA's..yours look very clean..i was wondering if u had cleaned them off, before making this video..anywayz thanks..im still figuring if i should use flux..like u doing here..or just go with the silver paste..and heat...so many different vids here..lol

  • @dmar26 Sorry you have me confused, I have not applied any Arctic Silver in the video, what you see is me applying Flux. The flux is used to help wet the solder when you flow it with the heatgun and prevent oxidation.

The Arctic Silver would be applied afterwards to the top of the CPU & GPU chip.

  • Hello,

My ps3 gave YLOD yesterday, it's a 40gb model from nov/2007. Which flux is better: only "no clean" or "no clean and lead-free"?

Thank you for the video and tips.

  • @usuarioinvalido01 either will be fine, mine wasn't lead free, just make sure you have the windows opened.

  • @usuarioinvalido01 leaded or lead free is fine. I'd say go leaded...
