  • A story of two ordinary brothers, one gay and one straight, this HRC video shows the passion, desire and emotion that goes into someone wanting to marry the person they love. The intimate story that is told here (with one brother-who btw is Conservative- wanting his sibling to be able to marry the man he loves) really draws the audience in right away. AND, as deep as the video is with emotion and narrative, its message is clear, simple and to the point. Pure example of storytelling.

  • Also, something tells me that the "straight" brother's involvement in this issue goes beyond his brother's welfare. If you were to ask me with no sound on this video which one of these brothers is the gay one, I would totally have said the one on with the beard on the left.

  • Heartwarming & hope inspiring, or just not troll-like? Ha! I'm inclined to think the latter. Sorry, these people have been too monstrous toward LGBT people for too long, actively cynically working to brew fear and contempt for them in the public arena for their own self-serving political benefit, to start getting brownie points now for simply treating their own family members with civility. My 2 cents.

  • This shit makes me cry

  • When I see/hear the hatred and evil present in the US in the form of marriage inequality in some states, my heart bleeds. I'm straight. I lost the love of my life because trying to get a fiance visa (he was a foreigner) took so incredibly long (years) that the distance and expense caused the end of my future. The govt does NOT have the right to dictate whether a loving adult couple can marry - straight, gay, or anywhere else on the spectrum.

  • Republicans - He's right. Supporting SMALL government means BUTTING OUT of everyone's personal lives - including their right to marry. Supporting gay marriage is the rational, humane, fair thing to do. I'm straight and I support gay marriage.

  • Craig is totally cute!!!

  • Well argued and extremely persuasive to anyone with a brain and a heart.

  • Just one of the many reasons to vote for Ron Paul.

  • I believe everyone should love everybody else, that being said I also think people should do whats best for each other. If I had a son I wouldn't let him eat sand, even if he wanted to because I don't think its whats best for him. It's the same with gay marriage, I don't think its morally acceptable and I wouldn't let my bothers and sisters do it, because I think it is bad for them, because it might keep them from the kingdom of heaven.

  • @coolcatrich If the Kingdom of Heaven is full of people like you, then I welcome Hell with open arms.

  • @coolcatrich Do your brothers and sisters really do whatever you tell them to? What kind of bully are you?

Speaking of your "Kingdom of Heaven", I don't want to go there if none of my gay friends are there.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic Gay people can go to heaven under the assumption that they don't act on their impulses. Sexual intercourse between 2 men or 2 women is a mortal sin, and without the sacrament of reconciliation (Catholic church) they cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven (under the assumption that they didn't ask for forgiveness at their deathbed and they were truly sorry). But anyways gays CAN and DO go to heaven, there are many gay people within the church who go to heaven.

  • @coolcatrich Your LIES about sexual activities of gay people ARE THE MORTAL SINS. God's greatest concern is not about sexual activities people do in their private lives, the bible isn't a kamasutra. Only hypocrite bigots treat it this way, and forgot about Jesus greatest commandments of all, and they will spend lots of money to put up campaigns of hatred + lies against people who love one another, instead of spending that money on under privileged people suffering in poverty.

  • @sbotte1 maybe you should go read the catechism of the Catholic church. If you think what I'm saying is a lie. Please, go right ahead, I will admit that I am wrong if you can quote in the catechism that I'm wrong.

  • @coolcatrich I don't support any manly churches any longer, too many hypocrites who abuses the bible to their own likings. Just follow Christ and all his teachings, you'll discover the lies of many so-called 'christians' and their bigot practices.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic I go by the Catechism of the Catholic Church. And people like me? Meaning someone who says what he feels is right? Am I no different than you? I fight for what I believe in, and I feel it necessary to tell people what I believe is the truth? I'm not trying to kill off all gay people, I just believe marriage is a sacrament between a man and a women, and that intercourse should be between a man and a women, as God and nature intended.

  • @coolcatrich So far as 'Nature' is concerned, there are over 1500 species that exhibit homosexual behaviour. Should they seek forgiveness on their deathbeds? You believe unquestioningly what you're told by a religion, but there are others in the world with different views on Birth Control and Divorce, let alone Homosexuality.

What you're trying to sell me is a lifetime of loneliness, forcibly separated from the one I love, in return for eternity with judgmental godbothering haters.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic Unquestioningly? I was totally opposed to the Catholic church for quite a long time, but as I studied it things started to make a lot more sense. I am not an average blind follower, I went to Catholic schools for 12 years, many of those years me not believing in God. And I disagree with both Birth Control and Divorce. Anyways haters? Why would I say anything if I hated you? Wouldn't I just say okay your going to hell and thats fine by me?

  • @coolcatrich You believe I am going to 'Hell' for loving another man. I don't share your belief, nor do many other religions. I note you're trying to interfere in the sex life of a total stranger, something fundamentlist religionists feel bizarrely compelled to do.

Your repugnance of my homosexuality doesn't impact on me, because the ones that matter to me, my family, friends and colleagues don't hate any part of me.

The Heaven you paint and terms of entrance have zero appeal.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic And there are people who remain celibate all their lives, and they live love filled lives, just not the love your talking about. Priests for instance. Anyways God loves all people, and gives them the option to follow him. Whether you do so or not is your call. And it was my job to say what my church believes and professes. My job is done. For more information check the Catechism of the Catholic church to know the whys.

  • @coolcatrich What you're trying to sell me is lifelong torture for a 'reward' of an eternity of torture. Why would I buy this?

The Catholic Church has a history of ghastly mistakes, such as burning Giordano Bruno at the stake and imprisoning Galileo for their correct teachings about astronomy, excommunicating Martin Luther for exposing the sale of Indulgences and other corruptions, silence on the Jewish Holocaust and covering up pedophilia in the priesthood. It is wrong on this too

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic Your right they have been in the wrong quite a few times. And I am sure there will be more mistakes to come. I do however disagree, this will always be a teaching of the Catholic Church. It clearly states in the bible that same sex intercourse is an abomination. But yes, we have made mistakes. And why is it torture? Are you really so lustful and body oriented that you can't control yourself? Being celibate isn't that hard. We don't NEED sex.

  • @coolcatrich So only heterosexuals "need" sex? What about Romantic love? Let's do the math. Approx 5% of the population is openly gay (based on 4% 2004 and 2008 US Census exit polls, and 6% in UK as average). Applied to global 7 billion population is 350 million gays. Most will never hear of Catholicism, and many will go to other accepting religions, and I am certain since even the Catholic Church teaches that God made gays gay, they are best off nowhere near you or your prejudices.

  • @coolcatrich and as for your offensive and paternalistic suggestion that I "can't control myself", it is rapists who can't control themselves. There is no way you should be teaching gay teenagers that for the next 80 years they can never be with a person of the same sex as themself, whom they've fallen in love with to the exclusion of all others, just because they were born that way. You may not have those romantic sexual feelings but to most they are the main reason for living.

  • @coolcatrich It also clearly states in the Bible that women should not speak in church and should not be teachers, and that you may not eat shellfish, pick up sticks on the Sabbath, but Jesus Christ never mentioned homosexuality, nor is it mentioned in the motherhood statements of the Bible, such as the Ten Commandments, Christ's Two Commandments, his Eight Beatitudes or his Seven Last Words. One day the Catholic Church will apologise for its egregious error on homosexuality.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic The 10 commandments cover more than you would think. Like the commandment about adultery covers a wide range, from masturbation to sex before marriage to homosexual intercourse, etc etc. And the the bible is the word of God, Jesus does not have to speak it. As for other the comment below, the reason for living should be for God.

  • @coolcatrich If the Bible was really "The Word of God" then it would be written in the 1st Person Singular, published in one unambiguous translation in every language on Earth and made available free in 7 billion copies.

What fills me with even more horror than the life you're offering me is the afterlife you're offering me. Being celibate has no appeal, nor has being stuck in eternal afterlife with a load of sanctimonious busybodies.

Where is homosexuality defined as "adultery"?

  • @coolcatrich This is what happens to gay kids when extremist dogma hits them:

    watch?v=InWhEIaCFkg (in YouTube)

This young man EricJames took his own life after his mother tried to exorcise him of his homosexuality.

I can point you to many other tragedies like this of kids aged 11yo and upwards whose bullying at school consisted mostly of "God hates fags". Every child killed himself.

You just don't get it, and nor does any religion that teaches gays to hate so fundamental a part of ourselves.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic First off no body but specific priests designated in each diocese should be performing exorcisms. Secondly God doesn't hate fags, God loves all of his children, more than we could ever comprehend. Thirdly, bullying is wrong, no body should bully others, God says to love everyone. Most men, have the urge to watch porn and masturbate, they don't have to hate that part of themselves, just control it. Purgatory purges us of the wanting to sin.

  • @coolcatrich before entering heaven. People don't understand what their church teaches, sometimes that includes me. Infact there is a lot of things I don't understand within the Catholic Church, and that is what causes war and hate. A misunderstanding and the fact they don't search for correct answers. It's a shame that everyone isn't educated as they should be. Even some priests don't understand everything, or are going down the wrong path, consisting of hate and extreme actions.

  • @coolcatrich Anti-gay religions teach that homosexuality is evil, and that you should hate that part of you - hence the paternalistic putdown "Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin". This means you are telling people to hate a part of another human being, that they had absolutely no say in being.

I enjoy being a homosexual. But I don't enjoy all the time I waste on channels like this trying to talk sense into you and others like you who insist on trying to make me feel bad about myself.

  • @DerekWilliamsMusic I don't enjoy all the time I spend trying to fight their hate too. My blood boils when I see the selfish, mean, evil things they post - even more so when they use God as an excuse for the hate in their hearts I'm straight but until LGBT people have equal rights, I won't stop. Love is love. I hope we both manage to change/open many minds.

  • JOIN US LIBERTARIANS CRAIG!!!

  • Let's face it: the only time that the GOP wants a smaller, less intrusive government and more individual liberty is as it pertains to their personal lives and when it affects their pocketbook. They're obsessed with controlling other people's lives, and imposing their personal beliefs on others. When it comes to telling others how to live their lives, how to worship, how to manage their own communities, and what to spend their money on, they simply cannot get enough big, central government.

  • Why is gay marriage even an issue? If politicians are so bent on the seperation of church and state and by the laws of this country we are guaranteed life, liberty, and pursuit of hapiness. WOuld Gay marriage not qualify under these rights?

  • someone hit the dislike button by mistake

  • Comment removed

  • Since when have the Republicans ever been for small government? That's the Libertarians.

  • @rg0057 They used to be, up until the last few decades, which is why libertarians evolved into where they are now.

  • thats soo cute story!

  • if you really want to support your gay brother, quit identifying yourself with the party that wants to make him a 2nd class citizen.

  • @Pagoas1 Not all conservatives are social conservatives dude. I hate to break it to you.

  • @verkpunk then why are those the only one running for president? Try again.

  • @VoteYou I wonder if it has something to do with getting more votes from the masses? Nah couldn't be.

  • @MezaseMaster So you are suggesting a person should vote by their wallet over their personhood? Really you have no point, or try to actually come up with one because that was pathetic.

  • @VoteYou That's what Ive been trying to tell some idiot for some times. Rich people (like my dad) are never discontent with paying taxes especially when they are as low as in the united states. When the tax burden gets passed on to poor people, it baffles te mind even more how poor folks can vote republican. Even more baffling, when voting republican makes members of your own family second class citizens!

  • @VoteYou ...What are you talking about? Do you understand Republicans at all? I shouldn't even have to argue that they try to appeal to social conservatives by being against things like abortion and gay marriage because it's common sense. The Republican party looks out for the interests of the minority so they have to do whatever they can to get more votes out of the general public, so they "look out" for the interests of social conservatives too. Do you seriously not understand this?...

  • @MezaseMaster wow how fucking stupid are you? The interest of bigots and those that want to oppress others is worth justifying to rally for? Please just kill yourself.

  • This is what a true American hero looks like.

  • More and more bricks from the Republican wall are beginning to fall. Anti-gay haters, if you haven't already, you should begin to worry.

  • As much as I am proud of Craig Stowell, I am equally as proud of his parents; they obviously raised him to be an example of what all human's should strive to be; fair and compassionate!

  • @indefenceofu If te Stowells were educated they wouldnt vote republican in the first place. If it wasnt for Obama, Gays still would not be able to serve openly in the military, and federal amendments would have been passed to outlaw marriage in ALL states. Obama is working on the repeal of DOMA at the moment. We need him reelected for FULL EQUALITY!

  • @Linternauter I don't care whether Craig is republican or not, I care that he's willing to stand up for his brother's rights, your rights and my rights, and that he's willing to tell the republican's that they're wrong when it comes to gay marriage.

  • Comment removed

  • @indefenceofu But you should care that he's republican because whether you like it or not, his opinion doesnt count. The elite in the party panders to fundamentalist chirstians who are as much zealots as muslim extremists. If he really loved his brother, he'd vote Democrat instead of making this half hearted apology. Even on other social issues such as health care, the Democrats are way ahed. His brother is for letting fellow humans die right on hospital doorsteps. Hypocritical twat he is!!!

  • @Linternauter Obviously Craigs point is that he believes in small government, so it makes sense that he doesnt want government intrusion on personal matters such as a person right to marry. How about you take that as a positive thing instead of crying about him not supporting every single issue that you do.

  • @verkpunk The republicans dont believe in small government. They believe in the abolition of many services which are inherently rooted in the very concept of society. We as a society fork out for the people in power to put in place stellar services such as free education, free healthcare, and affordable transportation means due to stellar transport insfracstructure. France, Germany, Japan and the UK are stellar example of why that works and have a small governments!

  • @Linternauter You just made my point, even though I am not a republican. The government does not exist to provide transportation or healthcare. It is in place to protect individual liberty, provide law and order, defend its inhabitants, and provide basic infrastructure needs. It provides basic education, because that is the foundation of a productive society. You call that abolition of services, but I call it smaller government.

  • We added you to the home page of OutoftheCloset.tv

  • Great to see a family sticking together for all the right reasons. Was anyone able to pick which of the two brothers was the gay one, just by looking at them?

  • The problem here is non-Christian conservatives don't have a party to align with. They're stuck in the same party as the "Family Values" people who would prefer to pack up all the gay people and ship them out to a remote island. The election system in the USA does not functionally allow for more than two parties, and so you end up with people sitting in political parties that can basically cut out an entire piece of their platform and say "I don't believe any of this." It's sad.

  • @puellanivis Exactly

  • holy crap! he just slapped the republicans face! Love how he pointed out 1: limited gov does not include regulating people's personal lives and 2: wanna repair the economy help all families not just some. AWESOME made my day!

  • why doesnt he move to canada?

  • @SuperVancouverBC Because your government is currently running a court case for two lesbians because they were told that they were never actually legally married?

  • @puellanivis i was joking....

  • @SuperVancouverBC oh... #saddayforeveryone

  • We need more republicans who champion gay marriage. Perhaps the change will come from younger republicans.

  • Mr. Stowell, you're my favorite person! Now if you can only convince the rest of your party for the importance marriage equality.

  • this is so nice. i cannot wait for the day when my partner and our babies are considered a famil by all.

  • It's a long downhill slide for the Republicans until they wake up to the fact that legislating against certain Americans based on their personal religious beliefs is wrong.

  • If he's voting republican he's not supporting his brother's right to marry.Sorry but its the truth. The GOP is just a party full of self-righteous bigots.Anyone normal human being with half a gnat's brain would not identify themselves as republican. Not if they have a moral conscience and actually have compassion for their fellow human being.

  • @SuperRegal79 - I agree. Just a week or so ago, I was specking with a colleague who identified herself as a "compassionate conservative." I simply replied, "What does that mean? It looks like nearly everyone else with that label is anything but compassionate." Here's yet another example.

  • @SuperRegal79 Yes, because to be part of a political party you have to agree with every single thing the party stands for. It's not like he could be for gay rights but prefer a small government and free markets...

  • @SuperRegal79 Lol, I replied before I even watched the actual video, and he even strongly implies there that he's for limited government and points out the hypocrisy of many Republicans on the issue. I don't agree with Republican philosophy at all, but if I did I'd be in the party because of how I feel about the economic and political issues, regardless of my stance on gay marriage. I'm glad that somebody in the party is challenging their stupid social ideas like he is.

  • @SuperRegal79 Have you ever heard of Ron Paul?

  • @verkpunk can you please stop pretending you know what Ron Paul stands for? He is for letting people die from cancer because they cannot afford it, he has said this countess of times in interviews, he will not sign marriage equality. He is a social conservative, just not an extremist like Santorum.

  • I wish all republicans felt like this.

  • Love it! What a great message, glad you're trying to spread it!

  • Inspiring message.

  • well said. It's not about special rights it's about equal rights.

  • @Paul4821 You got that right!

  • Although, i'm not a republican this is a good message
