  • I believe this was Jim Gordon on this one and a few other on this album. great job!

  • Nice job.

  • @Kikalani Thanks Chuck and Deb....You two are still sounding great !!! Merry Chrsitmas and Happy New Year 2012 coming....You friend ....Nick !!!!!!!

  • sometimes the slower pieces have more intricate riffs...i enjoy the flamboyant drummers but Ringo Starr and Barry Keane are my favourite drummers...really tasteful,catchy,creative,stuff...really nice job on the skins dude...i love Lightfoot...well done.

  • @lightfoot828 Thanks. I agree with all you have said. Another thing is that when a drummer like Barry Keane performs with GL you can ususally hear a pin drop so it magnifies all that he does as a percussionist. Somethimg as simple as playing the sleigh bells in Song For A Winter's Night really accents the song. A have a wide appreciation for music genres and GL is tops in his....Nick

  • now you calm down Nick...lol :-)) Gorden Lightfoot is great !!! relaxed drumming :-))

  • @karenmuenchen Thanks Karen....GL is a great artist and yes ... relaxed drumming...I enjoy this sort of druming as much as I do the hard driving stuff.....it would bore the heck out of me too always play the same music styles....hey...I 'll bet there is a nice GL song you would shine on doing...he has a a bunch...Your pal...Nick

  • Thanks so much Nick for covering this great song, and for the nice comments.

You are so right about knowing when less is more, and you've got the touch my friend. Just fabulous!

  • @7761864 My pleasure Brian...You are one of my first good friends I have made through YT.....GL is a class act and one of the best in his music genre. I was watching a YT vid of him being interviewed in 2008 and I never realized that in 2002 he was in a coma for 5 weeks due to an abdominal hemorige. What a fortunate ending to that. I have grown to respect him also as a person; eg-He doesn't need the $ from his approx 60 gigs a year but does it because his band members do need the $.

  • What a sweet groove for such a golden voice - Always liked Lightfoot's songs. Well done Nick, I like how you didn't over power the song - sounded like you eased back a little on the kick too - leaving room for his voice. I like how you apply different subtle techniques to the songs you cover. You know when to lay back and when to drive it home. BTW - I know the "h" is silent in Lightfoot - but I don't think it is supposed to be invisible - LOL!

  • @FL50DRUMR Thanks Ed... ha ha ... I saw that and fixed it.....I appreciate your take this drum cover. I did try to keep the drum volume low for the exact reasons you stated. I tried to find the drum volume that was just a bit over the top since it is a drum cover but not too loud where it overshadow the lyrics. When I watched the drummer Barry Keane play live it was very much about the subtle licks, accents and the signature parts. Not an easy task when you can hear a pin drop....Thanks..Nick

  • @readyeddy101 Yea - there is so much more to drumming than just how fast you can work your double kick pedal... I hope more young drummers learn about the subtle accents and how less can be more. Leaving room for the other instruments and band members, and knowing when to bring the thunder and when to whisper. Rookie drummers can really learn a lot from watching you - if they know what to look for. You also play with a subtle confidence - one that comes from performing on stage I would guess.

  • @FL50DRUMR You are right Ed...less is more in the right situation. Confidence can build alot by practicing & playing out. When I perform I am so focused on my playing that the crowd (hopefully there is one) doesn't seem there. The most important part is to simply keep the beat, know the basic structure of the song and have fun. If you have the opportunity to practice with a decent bass player and guitarist (or keyboard player) you should as you are a very good drummer......Nick
