Respect to the Shaman...? How about those parents? Raising a child is not easy, I have so much respect for them for what they were willing to do for their child! Most people would not have done anything close to that!
questo splendido film-documento tratta dell'autismo con una crudezza, una forza ed una potenza d'amore che solo la verità può permettersi. Naturalmente in Italia è semisconosciuto...
For those who dont know, this film was made with one camera man, a director (both of whom were friends of the parents) and a professional sound man. It was documented incase the childs condition improved so that they had records of it. Not to be released as a film.
i'm reading the book. it's so inspiring!!thank you rupert for writing the book. how is rowan!!the book is so touching. horeses r my fave animal and i will never beable to get as close emotionally with a horse as rowan has!!it's amazing

Just came across this, it answers so much. It has been proven that autistic people riding horses goes in snyc with their brain. What an amazing and emotional film - it helps alot for other families out there wanting alternatives to medicating their child. I cried watching this.
it's not healing,it is spiritual(shamans), yes, but not healing. devol lies. after this 'healing" boy will have more spiritual problems. feel sorry for him....only God may truly heals.
Anyone know the movie with a story with a boy with autism who got healed after years of support with his family and in the end the boy(healed) asks from another boy who was sitting close to him to through him the ball but the mother of him told to the healed boy "not everyone is lucky as you" something like that. Sorry if it`s not the right section to ask this.

Saw it. Ultimately, I'd give the film a thumbs up. I'd never question a parent's love for his child. You have to wonder, though, a full on camera crew hints at exhibitionism. Although, making films is how this guy makes his living, so he's providing for his fam, esp if the film's a hit or leads to more. So, even if it's crass grandstanding, I believe he's doing his best to make a better living for those he loves.
I have to get the DVD. This sounds like the kind of movie I like. One that touches you at a deep level, creating an opening for healing and transformation.
His mother says everything at 1:38. I totally agreed we think in such a manner that is so easy to say we are the normal ones. And many times is a contrary. Thank God for this parents having such an enormous heart and sensibility.
@SamathaSantiago From what I heard, this family had started a autism program in their home town, with their own horses. You will find this closer to home.
it's a great movie, trailer with a great song. But above all, this is just such an inspiring story. I'm reading the book now and have seen the movie. I have the deepest respect for all of you who embarked in this journey.I wish all the Atkinson family the best. You have inspired deeply, and I hope that Rowan keeps progressing...All the best!
Wow.Just the trailer alone makes me burst into tears because, as a 15 year old independent filmmaker having to a 9 year old autistic brother, I FEEL THIS. I have produced a couple of documentaries myself, but I have always been wanting to do a special one solely on my brother. Unfortunately because of lack of money, this hasn't been so. Few know what families with autistic children go through and I haven't seen much films that portray this feeling as strongly as this film does. Thank you.

Yes, it is based off of a book, I am reading it now. I myself am autistic (what they call high-function autistic) so I find this book very touching. As Rowan connects with the horse my connection is music. I wish my parents were more like his parents. I love the dedication they have for him and his autism! Best of luck to Rowan and his family!!
I have not seen the movie yet. Supposedly, it'll take a couple of months for it to get to Switzerland's cinemas, but I read the 400 pages of the book in almost one go, it keeping me spellbound.
@underground141 It is a good thing that they scare you because you do not know the horse and you would have to take time and be interested in the horse - watch - get to know the horse and let the horse get to know you - then comes a time when both of you are OK....
There's a book called "The horse boy" by Rupert Isaacson and he wrote about his journey to Mongolia with his autistic son Rowan. And a film crew came with them so this is the documentary about the journey which is also "available" as a book. Hope you understand what I mean.
I read this book last month and I was touched by it. I'm from Germany and haven't seen the movie - just found the trailer and I was ALREADY a part of it since I "knew" all the places. I am going to a school to become Occupational Therapist and my teacher told me that I shoudn't even think about working with animals. It wouldn't work. I don't care! Never believe anyone decrying something! I'm very interested in autism, I love horses and the Lion King! :) Great book. Hope to see the movie soon!
that is so cool i was afraid of horses but amazed by them when i was 3 i told my grandpa that i liked horses and he grabbed me and put me on my aunt's horse and i was screaming but now i can ride and i am not afraid
This movie looks so good, can't wait to see it! As a horse lover, I can say without a doubt there is healing to be offered from horses and other animals, it's just a matter of opening the heart and mind.
I have a 2 years and a half autistic son, and I don´t know if watching this movie, if it is very depressing or has a sad ending..
Would you be so kind of sending me a message (in order not to spoil the movie) with this information. I think I have enough with my situation and would like to watch if it is healing for the soul, and not otherwise. Thank you.
there are parts of the movie that are sad, but overall, it is a message about healing the "horse boy" AS WELL AS healing his parents (guilt, frustration, etc.). it's uplifting and inspiring. i think parents of autistic children should definitely see it. it would be a mistake to NOT watch this film!
I saw this film and thought it was so beautifully done. I cried throughout the entire film! Can anyone tell me the name of the song that is playing in the trailer? It is in the movie as well. The song toward the end of the trailer with the lyrics "for you, for me..." Thanks!
My son is high functioning autistic - and 9 years old. We have experianced the same interaction as Rowan and his Dad. Great book and can not wait for the movie to show in the Carolinas. My son's "Boss mare 'Tenn. Walking Horse is a real blessing.
